32. Pawn

Glenn watched the convoy of Roesli's cars and his henchmen leave. After he felt they were far enough, he took out his phone and called his mother. Irina promptly answered Glenn's call, the sound of an engine in the background indicating she was still on the move.

"Can you talk while driving, Mother? If not, I'll contact you later when you've arrived," Glenn suggested.

"No problem, just go ahead. I'm using hands-free," replied his mother. "Are you okay?" she asked with concern.

"I'm fine, Mother. But as I suspected, there's a spy in Roesli's mansion, someone cunning enough to betray us," Glenn revealed.

Irina's frustrated sigh was audible. "I guess being kind is never enough, huh?" she muttered more to herself. "Anyway, Roesli intentionally wants to declare war, Mother," Glenn explained.

"I know, it's truly regrettable. Your father was too kind to him, not realizing he was helping a snake. Even Esteban, who raised him, could be betrayed. Ah, well, that's also why I accepted Arthur back
