37. Eugene's Confessions

Ms Eugene, who usually had a stiff expression, appeared shaken. Her gaze was run in all directions to avoid making eye contact with Arthur and Glenn Smith. She couldn't bring herself to face them.

"Why, Eugene?" Arthur asked again, still with a deep tone of disappointment.

Ms Eugene struggled hard to swallow saliva. Her mouth remained tightly shut, repeatedly shaking her head, resisting the urge to answer Arthur Smith's questions, her longtime master.
