Chapter 05: The most dangerous prison

"Nate Evander! Come out!" a guard yelled after opening Nate's prison door this morning.

"About time," Nate thought as he took a deep breath and closed his eyes for a moment.

Nate stood undaunted at the prison door. Nate's hair, mustache, and beard had grown longer than when he first entered the prison. The handcuffs on Nate's hands and feet were removed and he was led to a car by heavily armed police.

The police car soon sped down the highway on its way to the courthouse. Today was the judge's hearing to determine Nate's sentence. It was also Nate's last chance to prove his innocence in court.

"How long have I been in prison?" Nate asked the officer sitting next to him.

"A little over two months," the cop replied coldly. His hand didn't seem to leave his gun.

"I see," Nate muttered as he stared down the street through the windshield.

"Money really can buy anything, even justice," Nate said.

Hearing Nate's words, the police in the car glared at Nate. However, they did not take any action because Nate made no other movements. Only Nate's eyes continued to stare at the road.

Nate was led out of the car with a close escort. Hundreds of people had gathered outside the courthouse. They were all carrying banners insulting Nate. They were separated by a line of police.

Journalists from various media immediately swarmed around Nate as he came out. There were about twenty-four of them with full reporting equipment. Their voices were barely audible over the shouts of the people crowded around the court.

"Die, you bastard!"

"Shameless bastard!"

"Poor useless youth!"

"You scum!" shouted the crowd outside the police barricade.

"Nate, how do you feel after betraying Mr. Lucius, who helped you?" a reporter asked.

"Nate, are you crazy?" asked another reporter.

"What is the last hope of a despicable criminal like you?" another reporter asked.

But Nate said nothing and continued to walk, accompanied by the police. He entered the courtroom to the cheers of those around him. He could see his wife, his father-in-law, his brother-in-law, and other descendants of Lucius already seated in the courtroom. Even Dominic, Sicilia's lover, was there.

A glimpse of Sicilia, holding Dominic's body, seemed to grin with satisfaction when she saw Nate's arrival. But Nate just turned his face away as he walked forward to his seat. The trial began shortly after Nate was seated in the defendant's chair.

Event after event followed procedure. All the results of the trial so far were summarized. In the end, Nate was sentenced to life imprisonment and will be sent to Grimace Island International Prison, nicknamed the Dark Continent. It has been called the most dangerous prison in the world.

Everyone in the room cheered after hearing the judge's decision. Meanwhile, Nate could only sigh deeply as he looked down. He had not thought that he would meet such a fate, even though he had always tried to be kind to everyone, in accordance with the mandate of his late mother and father.

Nate was given time to say his last words in this trial before being sent to prison. Nate calmly walked to the podium and faced the guests present at the trial.

"Shameless!"

"Die in prison!"

"Rot in jail!"

"You despicable criminal!" the guests shouted as they stood and pointed at Nate from a distance.

Nate's gaze slowly fell on all the members of the Lucius family present in the courtroom. Nate also looked at the judges, prosecutors, and Pier. Finally, Nate's gaze stopped on Sicilia's face. Sicilia seemed to be deliberately holding the hand of Dominic, who was sitting next to her.

"I, Nate Evander, will always remember the faces of all of you in this room right now. Thank you for showing me how this world works. Thank you for giving me the hope I've always dreamed of," Nate said.

"I'm going to start all over again. And I can assure you of one thing. You will all reap what you sow!" Nate continued firmly.

"Bullshit!"

"Murderer!" the crowd shouted in response to Nate's words.

The judge then ended Nate's lengthy trial. Nate was then escorted to a police car to be taken to his jail cell. That was the last time he saw the faces of the people who had laughed at him.

There was a letter in Nate's cell when he arrived. Nate opened it immediately and asked a policeman to light a match for him so he could read the letter in his hand. It was from Sicilia.

"I hope you don't remember my face when you want to satisfy your lust in prison. But there is no way you can do that since you never touched me. You don't have to worry about me either, because Dominic will continue to satisfy me as he always has," Sicilia wrote.

"What a whore!" grumbled Nate as he burned the letter with a lighter.

The next day, both of Nate's eyes were covered with a black cloth as he was put into the car. They were not removed until Nate was seated on the plane. He was escorted on the plane by the police as if they were carrying the most dangerous mafia in the state of Vienna.

But Nate did not protest at all and enjoyed his long flight. His face was again covered by a black cloth when the plane was almost at the destination airport. Nate could not see when he got off the plane. The police led him to the car.

From the car, Nate was taken by helicopter with his face uncovered. They were in the helicopter for a long time until they finally landed on Grimace Island, the largest prison island in the world. From there, Nate's face cover was removed.

Nate underwent various tests before being escorted to the prison he would occupy. His hands and feet were now free to move without handcuffs. All of the police officers on duty there were fierce looking and had a tall and stocky posture.

Several times, Nate also crossed paths with other inmates in the cell hallway. Almost all of them had a grim and sinister look in their eyes. Some of the inmates even seemed to grin with pleasure at Nate's arrival.

"New food!" shouted a group of inmates sitting in the hallway. But they didn't dare approach Nate because he was escorted by five heavily armed police officers.

"That's cute," said some of the inmates.

"It looks like this place isn't just for me to spend the rest of my life in. This place is like an open colosseum, fighting is inevitable in order to continue to survive," Nate thought as he was taken to his cell.
