Chapter 19

“Honey, how'd it go with your business deal today?” Mina, Amelia's mother asked David, her father.

His lips peel back in a tooth grin, bits of food staining his teeth. “Great! Guess what, we even managed to close the deal.”

“Really?” Mina squealed, reaching out to touch David. “Honey, that's good news!” She turned to face Amelia. “Is that true?”

Amelia like the ever dutiful daughter nods in accordance. “Yes Daddy, we're proud of you.”

Mina kept showering praises on her husband, intoxicated with the sound of dollar bills raining down on her.

Amelia just picked up her food, not hungry. Evenings at home were becoming quite boring and repetitive, making Amelia crave something of her own.

Dinner was David's favorite, pot roast and turkey.

Two horrible things that Amelia hated but she managed to shovel some down her throat so she didn't look ungrateful.

“So Amelia honey, what's going on with you? You've been quiet over there.” David popped out the question.
