Sean growled, standing up for his mother. “Don't talk to her like that!”

“What are you going to do about it, boy?” Caesar spat the word boy like it was very distasteful.

Looking around the round table, Sean realized that there was nothing he could do. Every person here was way bigger and more powerful than he was, and they were solidly behind Caesar.

Sean folded his lips, biting back the words on the tip of his tongue, eager to roll off.

“So do we have a deal?” Caesar asked but before he could open his mouth to speak, he raised a hand. “Careful. Beware of the consequences before you start talking.”

Sean glanced at Moriah, feeling helpless.
