Sean helped fetch a glass of cold water, handing it over to Moriah. “How're you feeling now?”She took a sip. “Better.” She kept on staring at him with this glint in her eyes.“What?” Nothing. It's just ironic that you're the one standing by me right now.” She shook her head sadly.“It's be fine. Don't worry, Clement will come around and you can sweep this under the bus.” He pats her hand.“You're right.” She blew out a harsh breath, tucking her hair behind her ear. “I didn't get to finish telling you the story.“It's fine, you don't need to-”She waved off his words. “It's fine, besides it'll be good to get it off my chest. Anyways, my parents were dead set with him getting a divorce no matter how much I begged, pleaded or downright cried.” The smile melted off her face. “Clement's family were no better. They knew the kind of monster they had for a brother and yet they didn't care. Their reputation trumped any other thing, so they forced us to remain married despite how much we hate
“Come in.” Caesar rumbled, his glasses perched on his nose like a strict headmaster.Moriah walked in, standing close to the door. “You called me.” She stood ramrod straight, staring into space until Caesar was ready to talk. Dressed in matching designer tops and pants, finishing up the look with a floor-length nude coat, Moriah's hair was slicked back into a low bun at the nap of her neck, a light makeup was on her face. She looked good, more dressed up than usual but then again, it wasn't every day that the head of the family asked to see you. Finally, Caesar peered over his glasses taking in her appearance in one swift look. “Cone in, and shut the door behind you.”Moriah did as instructed, crossing her legs over each other with her hands folded on her lap.She didn't dare utter a word even though curiosity was burning a hole in her tongue. When she got the message this morning from her secretary, she had to check again making sure she wasn't wrong.Caesar removed his glasses from
Where are they?” Sean asked, walking past Rebecca. She stood up the moment she saw him, placing her hands on the desk. “They're inside, waiting for you.” She replied. Sean nodded, striding briskly last her desk. When he got the call that morning, that Moriah wanted to see him and Clement, several thoughts went through his mind. Ever since the last time they spoke, they had been running an uneasy truce. Sean kept out of Clement's way and vice versa. Now that there's a meeting in which they have to attend, Sean could only guess what was up his mother's sleeve. Taking a deep breath, Sean pushed the doors open. Moriah and Clement turned to face him, watching him as he walked on. “Finally, you're here.” Clement remarked dryly. “Can we get on with the meeting now?” Moriah ignored her son, wrapping her arms around Sean. “Hi, Mom.” He hugged her tightly before pulling away. Clement let out a sigh, making it so obvious so that we could hear him. Moriah composed herself, the form
A week later Sean had a week to think through his decisions, and options and bring out new strategies in the bid for the CEO position. However, he hit a snag. The second test they had to pass according to the contract Moriah had them sign with a clause stating whoever won the company fairly and square would take over and the other part would relinquish without much struggle. The marriage issue. Seeing as Amelia was out of his life for good- after the court case leaked, no one wanted to have anything to do with them anymore and they were too ashamed to show their faces around in social circles- that left Sean with no other person. Sure he could go outside and dare but he was quickly cured of the hope that a woman would fall in love with him for who he was and not the position and money he had. He was running out of options which was why he joined a dating app, under a false name of course. His past two dates had gone wrong, but he believed that the third time would be a charm.
Sean could feel his last hope slipping through his fingers. Not willing to just let her go, he rose from his seat and chased after her. “Shelly wait!”Her body turned rigid when she felt his hand on her body and immediately, he retracted it.“Sean, what do you want?” She sighed. “It's clear that we want different things so don't force it.”“But I was having a great time weren't you?” At this point, Sean was grasping at straws.“Of course, I was, I had fun. In the last couple of months, you're like one of the first guys that I've enjoyed spending time with.” She confessed.“So how is that stopping us?” Sean threw up his hands. “I mean…Okay, fine, I might have come up a little bit strong but maybe this can work out?” The hesitation at the end of his sentence made it sound like a question. She looked into his eyes. “You're lying.”“What are you talking about?” Sean was confused.“This does not want you to want obviously and somehow you trying to make me realize that it's what you want is
Just like he suspected, Chloe needed his help. She was a struggling secretary who had several responsibilities from home, in need of comfort, money, love, and a shoulder to lean on.All things he had to offer to her.Through Rebecca's sneaky ways- to date, Sean had no idea how she managed to pull Chloe's information- he was able to get her number and then he messaged her. That graduated into calls and after a couple of days talking to her, he managed to wear her down until she accepted his invite to his home.Sean offered to pick her up but she declined.Stirring the pot, he checked the YouTube video he was watching on what step he needed to carry out but the phone's screen was foggy with steam from the pot.Sighing, Sean stopped stirring looking around in frustration. This was what he got for trying to surprise a woman with his cooking. The kitchen was a mess, he was no way near done cooking, and…he had only twenty-five minutes before she would knock on his door. His spaghetti Bologn
Sean raised his hands in a sign of surrender. “Chloe, calm down…”“Oh, now you want me to calm down?” she glared at him. “You know what? Maybe Amelia was right, you're a horrible person and you're a pervert.”She grabbed her bags angrily, setting them up to leave.Sean ran in front of her, blocking her way. His heart was beating so fast that it was a surprise she didn't hear it. Listen, I can explain everything. I just need you to calm down and hear me out.“I don't want to hear you out. I want to leave.” She glanced pointedly at the door he was standing in front of.Sean was losing hope at this point. “Chloe, please.”“I will scream if you don't move out of my way right this second.” She said firmly, having every intention of shouting at the top of her lungs.Sean realized this, so he moved out of her way.Chloe gave him a wide berth as she walked towards the door.It was a shallow and maybe shitty thing to do but Sean was running out of time and Chloe might be his saving grace. “I
After my disaster of a date with Chloe, Sean couldn't take the self-loathing anymore.Grabbing his jacket, he picked up a few things with his car keys and drove out.Wandering for almost thirty minutes, Sean arrived at his destination. The bar was a bit seedy but it was what he needed.A place to let off steam, and maybe get drunk.Grabbing the baseball cap he always kept on his car after his face became plastered all over social media, Sean turned off the engine and walked inside but not before tipping the kids around some cash so they could watch over his car.The door to the pub was old and rusty but the minute Sean walked in, he was transported back in time.Old vinyl records were playing, high-backed chairs and booths with a small space in the middle of the room which was for dancing.Sean ignored the looks of interest by several ladies and walked straight to the bar.A middle-aged lady who was trying so hard to look younger than her age walked up to the bar. She didn't have much
