Chapter 8

Gunfires, screams, and laughter of the gangsters echoed in the whole place. They kept shooting until they emptied all of their magazines. But right after that, they’re eyes grew big as Jake was still standing, smiling at the man in front of him and all of the bullets just stopped before hitting his body.

“Is that it?” Jake smirked. “Is that all you got?

The bullets around him dropped one by one, making a sound similar to a wind chime being blown by a strong wind.

“W-What are you?!” the man asked with heavy breathing and watery eyes. He still couldn’t move even his fingers.

“I told you. I am the one sent by Mr. Drummond,” Jake answered. Then he moved his index finger, and the man's arm, which was holding the gun, moved on its own and dropped the gun on the floor.

“Nice to meet you, David.”

“H-How did you know my name?”

Jake smiled as he looked at the man in the eyes. “I heard Anthony call you that name in your memory.”

“You’re not human. What are you?!”

“You’ll not believe me even if I tell you. Now, you’ll come with me.”

“As if I’ll go with you!” David resisted. He looked around then smiled in front of Jake. “Boys! Chop this man down! The one who’ll kill him will get a precious reward!”

The gangster roared as they pulled out their blades. And all of them rushed towards Jake.

“Seriously?” Jake grinned before looking around checking the men charging at him. “102 men. You have a heck of a crew. But I can kill all of them in an instant. Is that okay with you? You all saw how I stopped the bullets, isn’t that enough to scare you?”

“Nothing scares us as long as it’s about money!” one of the gangsters shouted and that was followed by the others with a roar.

David’s shoulder started to shake, then he laughed so hard. “We’ve faced death together, and we’re always willing to face it again for the sake of money! This is our life!”

Jake nodded his head. “I don’t know how much money Anthony paid you to waste your lives like this. I want to stop now, but I guess that’s impossible. Isn’t it?”

He let go of David and turned around to see gangsters rushing to him from all sides. They surrounded him and yelled at him. Jake touched the Aetherlock and casted a spell, then he jumped. He jumped about two meters high, landed swiftly like lightning, and punched the ground with his right fist. The ground trembled and cracked and that made the gangsters stop.

He smiled, and suddenly a powerful invisible force struck the gangsters around him, including David, throwing them away. Most of them collided with shipping containers, and the impact was so powerful that their bodies left dents in the metal containers. Others simply ran away from their fear.

And David's body collided into the cargo container so violently that he became stuck there with his arms spread wide.

“Nothing scares you, huh?” Jake said as he faced David. “Then what’s with that face?”

David's eyes were bloodshot, his lower lip was shaking, and the front of his pants was wet.

“Please. Spare me and my men,” David pleaded. “Yes. It was Anthony Smith who ordered us to kidnap the woman. But I really don’t know why!”

Jake approached him and put his face in front of David’s. “ Don’t lie to me. I’ve seen your memory. It was hazy but Anthony definitely told you why. Now, tell me. What’s the reason?” He put his palm on David's chest and pushed it slightly, but it was enough to further bury the man in the shipping container. And this caused David to scream in pain.

“Just kill me!” David screamed then blood came out of his mouth and nose.

“I don’t kill people. It’s not necessary. But I will bring you to my father,” Jake replied. “You’ll tell him everything you know and he may not be so lenient like me.”

“Then just kill me here! You won’t get anything from me and besides you killed most of my men already.”

Jake stopped and stared at David. He saw the man’s eyes looking at his men one by one.

“They are not dead. I told you. I don’t kill and I am not stupid to kill this number of people,” Jake said. “Where would I dump these corpses if ever?”

“Is that true? Are they really alive?” David asked, followed by coughing up blood. “Then, that’s good.”

He sighed and touched David’s chest. He closed his eyes and casted a healing spell. Then David’s wounds and bruises disappeared and his breathing became normal.

“H-How did you do that? What really are you?” David asked with wide opened eyes and opened mouth.

“I don’t need to answer those questions, do I?” Jake sarcastically replied. “You’ll be the one answering questions in front of my father. Consider this as your second chance in life.”

David was about to respond when Jake touched his head, knocking him unconscious.

However, Jake did not free him from the shipping container wall. He proceeded to the center of the arena, touched the Aetherlock, and raised his hands, facing the sky.

A huge magic circle fell from the sky and it touched all of the unconscious men except David. Then in an instant that illuminating sigil disappeared.

“I guess that’s enough to erase their memory about what happened here,” Jake said while looking around. Then he stared at the Aetherlock and sighed. “I have unlocked Mystic Barrier and Memory Flash tonight. I was also able to cast large scale spells. This is like the time I was beginning to learn magic. What a drag!”

He walked towards the container where Caroline was held.  He leaned her against the container's wall and healed all of her injuries and wounds. He examined Caroline's vitals; thankfully, she wasn't harmed too badly, which made him smile.

“I’m sorry you have to suffer this, Caroline. But now I am back, I will definitely protect you no matter what,” he said while looking at his sister. “You’re the only one who has believed in me, together with mother since the day I was born.”

He piggybacked her, then he went to David, who was still trapped on the container's walls. He placed his palm on the body of the man and cast a teleportation spell. A bright orange light engulfed him and in an instant he disappeared from the place.

However, he had no idea that someone was lurking in the shadows, filming everything he did on a smartphone. A woman with long straight black hair, red lips, and pale skin. And that woman immediately passed on that video over email.
