Chapter 3: Threatened

"Young man you will pay for this! This phone is the Falckon Midnight Diamond Edition from Goldgenie - it's a customized iPhone 12 Pro! that retails for a cool damn $4.5 MILLION and I won't take an apology as an answer I swear on my dead grandfather!!!"

_Oh great, look where my anxiety has taken me_ Rex groaned as he stood up from the floor too.

Looking at the lady whom he bashed into, She looks to be in her early twenties, with a model-like figure. Her dark brown eyes sparkle with intelligence and mischief. Her hair is long and shiny, framing her face perfectly. She wears a white suit, tailored to perfection, and she exudes confidence and an air of arrogance just like a peacock with every step. She looks like an Italian beauty straight out of a fashion magazine, and her style is both elegant and effortless. She's the kind of woman who turns heads wherever she goes...

Slap!

Rex who was lost in his thoughts was jolted awake when he felt a stinging pain on his left cheek.

"You lowly fool has the gut to look at me with such gaze? Tueh, you're disgusting and I will make sure to deal with you. But for now, you gotta pay for this phone no matter what!" She says with her cold voice which shows no single trance of compassion towards Rex.

"I...I... I'm so sorry Young Miss! I swear I didn't do so intentionally. My sister has been sick for weeks now and currently, the doctor is planning to send her out of the hospital because I can't afford her bill. I just got some money and was rushing towards her wards to pay for it." He said with a look of pity. He knows what most young wealthy ladies have is compassion especially when a poor man tells them their struggles.

But the forgiveness he was expecting didn't come rather...

Spit~

She stepped closer to Rex and spit on his cheap shirt, her beautiful face twisted in a sneer. "Why should I care about some poor, pathetic person like you?" she hissed. "Your sister is a waste of space, and if you can't pay for her treatment, then she might as well die. She's worthless to me. What I want is my phone!"

Rex was speechless, his mouth open in shock. He had never expected such callousness from a woman, what's wrong with being poor? Why was he treated like shit? As she finished her sentence, she gave Rex a cold smile and added, "I will be on my way as I don't wanna cause more scene in the hospital but just know this, I can track you no matter where you go, so try and get my money as I give you only 2 weeks from now and trust me, you really don't wanna know me. So pay up or... your sister will be the collateral." With that she sauntered away, the click of her heels echoing in the sterile hospital hallway. She could feel the eyes of others on her, but she didn't care. She was used to being the center of attention. She had a reputation to uphold after all or that poor bastard would have suffered.

****

Rex took a deep breath and put on a smile, trying to hide the pain and humiliation he felt. He knew he had to stay strong for his sister, no matter what.

Now that he has the money, it's better to face one problem at a time rather than worry about someone's threat.

_I might be poor now but it won't last long and I promise y'all that looked down on me and treat me like a piece of shit will get it hot from me._ He swore inwardly as he took a deep breath, hiding the pain and humiliation behind a fake facade of smile. How can he put his sister in worry?

With that, he headed into his sister's ward and the sight of her hurt him so badly that he felt like breathing was hard at that moment.

Seeing his sister lying on the bed weakly hurts him to the core. She was so thin and frail, and her eyes were dull and sunken. His heart broke at the sight of her. He forced a smile as he approached the bed.

"Hey sis," he said, trying to sound upbeat. "How are you feeling?"

But his sister just looked at him with empty eyes and tried forcing a smile.

Rex could see right through her facade. He knew she was hurting, masking her vulnerability behind a brave front. The thought of her suffering pierced his heart so much that he felt a stifling stuff in his heart. With newfound determination, he announced to Mirabel,

"I have the funds to cover your medical expenses. You'll be receiving treatment immediately."

Her eyes ignited with hope as soon as he said it and without delay, he dashed to the doctor's office and paid the fees.

The doctor's greedy gaze transformed into sycophancy at the sight of the money.

_Greeedy pig, just wait for my rise_ He curses and decides to stay till his sister's treatment is finished.

But faith seems to have another humiliation in store for him.

Ring~

Ring~

His phone rang forcing Rex to pick it up, "Hello Rex, my grandfather says you should come home right now. You have 10 minutes to reach or else you will regret it. Hmph!"

(Cut calls)

_Why will Silvia be calling me now of all moments_ His intuition told him it wasn't a nice feeling but without any choice he headed to their family house.

Malibu Santa Monica Pier City ~

A place only meant for the elite of society because of its perfect blend of coastal chic, upscale vibes, and laid-back beach energy. With palm trees swaying in the sea breeze or waves crashing against the pier and upscale beachfront restaurants serving up fresh seafood with big shots patronizing them.

In one of the biggest mansions there inside the meeting room, a circular table that seats all 12 people, with the patriarch in the center. The table is large enough for everyone to have ample elbow room and place their drinks or documents. The chairs are comfortable and well-padded, with armrests and swivel bases for easy movement. The room is dimly lit, with soft, ambient lighting, giving it a mysterious, almost secret vibe.

Ambrose Medici sat at the head of the table, his steely gaze surveying the assembled group with authority. His tailored suit emphasized his broad shoulders, and his hair was salt-and-pepper, betraying his age, but not his power. He radiated an understated confidence. Despite his unassuming appearance, it was clear that he was the one in charge, the man whose word was law.

"Today we all gather to watch as my daughter Silvia Medici divorces her husband Rex, as before me is the divorce paper..." The head of the family, Ambrose let out.
