POLICE STATION - DAY
Wednesday, the routine begins. Casual amount of residents and policemen. Among them, Ricardo smiles silly, he seeks with his eyes until he finds Carlos's desk.
He goes to him and sits down, "Here I am. What do you want to know?"
Carlos doesn't like Ricardo's stance, "You know that our neighborhood is relatively new, Mr. Oliveira."
"I know. I came here in 1997. There was almost no one on my street. It looked like a ghost town. Now that it's getting fun."
"Yes, and unfortunately there is a resident who is not having any sense of fun. On Monday, I had to intervene in an armed robbery. You must have heard of it."
"No, our neighborhood still doesn't have a radio or a newspaper." Ricardo's tone is always jibing and mocking.
"Well, that's what happened. And yesterday, I receive an anonymous tip about clandestine electrical connections, what people call a ‘cat’."
"Okay, and what do I have to do with it?"
"They mentioned your address, Mr. Oliveira."
Ricardo looks thoughtful for some seconds, "'They mentioned', is it?"
"Verb in a third of the plural does not identify the subject."
Ricardo keeps with a silly smile, "I know, officer, I also studied. I just find it funny that you're in a hurry to complete it."
"If you swear you have nothing to do with it, we’ll leave it for the record and proceed with the investigation."
"So easy?"
Carlos is always tough, "Easy, as long as there is no new evidence. I hope not, right?"
Ricardo is already withering, "Certainly not."
Now it's Carlos's turn to smile silly.
MALTHUS SNACK BAR
Rosa opens the door and gets in. There is still no soul. Aurélio is already ready, putting the food in order.
"Good morning, Miss Rosa!"
"How many times have I asked to cut the 'miss'."
"It’s to maintain respect."
"You won’t believe it, but I am twenty years old."
Aurélio stops and stares at her in amazement for a few seconds. Then, he back to service.
"No, I really don't believe it."
Rosa laughs.
Aurélio continues, "What is going to be?"
"This sausage roll has an appetizing look. It’ll be it today. And see me a can."
Aurélio serves Rosa's request.
While he is doing other things, like organizing the tables, she goes on, "Do you know who bought a ream of A4 yesterday and didn't pay me? The 'mayor' Tito Aguiar."
"Wow! Didn't he pay?"
"No... Who paid was a nice girl, with curly hair, even cute. She called him all the time by the title and he just missed going to the clouds. He told me that the residents' association was without funds and she was promptly paid for the sheets together with the inks."
"Paints? Do you sell paint?"
"Acrylic paint. It looks like she paints."
A puzzled Aurélio looks at the wall. In his view, an impressionist painting by Carina, signed by her.
"Wouldn't it be Carina Sousa? She is a friend of Monica, a neighbor."
"You know, I moved not even a year ago. I'm getting to know the interesting crowd."
Aurélio follows the arrangement in doubt. He goes to the back and then comes back with a broom. Those who read the previous chapter will understand.
RESIDENTS’ ASSOCIATION
Célio enters. He hears the noisy printer working. Tito is on the other side, receiving the sheets with the announcement of the "meeting" of residents. Perceives the boy's entrance.
"Ah, young man! Today there will be one more job for you."
Célio notices the sheets, "Got it?"
"A very conscientious resident made this donation. Now you can continue to spread the announcement of our meeting where you failed. Especially the police station."
"Yes, we need to inform everyone. Especially after I had a chat with my friend Cássio."
"What did he say?"
"He wants to be a famous soccer player from Rhodia River. Can you imagine the fame that this will bring to our neighborhood? But, with the square and the whole field blown up, he can't train."
"Yes, let's help our young talents!"
Tito dumps the printed pile somewhat awkwardly in Célio's arms.
CARIJÓ STREET
Monica leaves her house and walks to the sidewalk, looking at the posts' wires.
"I'll find out where this interference is coming from. Some wire must have been cut, spliced."
Monica goes for a walk and looks up. When taking a few steps after Fábia Peres's house, in the background, she appears screaming at her.
"Little Monica!"
Monica makes another disgusted face, then turns. Fábia is already approaching.
A very ironic Monica replies, "Speak, Fábia, dear to my heart!"
"Gee, stop being silly. The conversation is straightforward! What's this about giving my boyfriend your phone?"
"How was it?"
"Yesterday, Fabinho decided to call you and he was already dialing! That is, he had his number engraved in his mind! When did you give it to him? Any hidden meeting that I am not aware of?"
Monica faces Fábia Peres, holding on to the urge to laugh.
CASCAIS BAKERYAnnie comes in excitedly, floating until she finds Jonas in a bad mood, and with a visible bruise from yesterday's slap."Jonas! What happened to you? Did someone try to rob the bakery yesterday?"He answers with another question, "Do we already have a criminal faction for something this big?""No, but remember that they already started with a robbery in broad daylight with Monica."Jonas has an explosion, "They should have taken her purse, so she could run out of books and starve to death!"Annie chooses a table to sit at, "Are you going to tell me what happened? Or can I try to guess now?""What do you think?""Whoever gave that mark was Monica. It looks like a woman's slap."Jonas walks away and stands behind the counter. Visibly upset."I'm sorry, Jon...""You asked her not to interfere, that we had agreed, and she came in next to closing and got in. I threw truths in her face and she reacted like that."Annie has shallow water eyes, "Honey, I'm sorry...""Don't worr
STREETS - DAYMonica follows her path, she has already turned a block. She is in the back street. She keeps walking, looking up, and some passersby notice her.Ahead, Monica is already feeling crazy and almost giving up. Until she stops walking and does a victorious smile. In Monica's view, there’s a tangle of spliced wires, obviously irregular. She looks from the top of the pole, going down to a certain house, and sees ‘number 33’. Monica smiles, triumphant, she found the irregularity. When she turns to go to the police station......Monica bumps into Fábio, only in shorts and sneakers, running. Fail."Why don't you look where—", she notices him, "Fábio?"A pseudo-charming Fábio smiles at her, "What is it? Ah, you never noticed me without a shirt, right?"Monica is indifferent, "Dude, a worthly shirtless man is just my dad. And he's better than you.""Come on! Age reaches everyone, Little Monica. And that's why I don't want to waste mine. You, not that you need it, but you could als
POLICE STATION - DAY Carlos this time sees Sandra standing at the entrance. He interrupts his laughter. "Have you been attended yet, miss?" Monica turns around and sees her too, "Sandra! What a small world." Sandra replies wryly, "Small neighborhood." "No way, look at the size of that map!" Sandra approaches, "Chief, since yesterday I made a complaint, but it seems that it didn’t give results. There are gathering kids in a group near my house and they just sit idly practically all day. Nobody knows what they want; if they are watching to steal us later." "Miss, you will have to gather more neighbors to complain to Seu Tito. We are unable to do something of this magnitude. I managed to arrest one who assaulted your friend, but a gang... I hope not, but as soon as possible we will look." "I hope there won't be a tragedy before. May my boyfriend won't cry leaning over my coffin. Excuse me." Sandra stomps away. Monica is thoughtful, "How strange... Kids attacking in daylight... S
MONICA’S LIVING ROOM - DAYAnnie confronts Monica for having argued and beaten up Jonas. Carina inadvertently ends up witnessing."Annie, calm down..."Annie is hurt, "How could you, Monica? I trusted you. I asked you not to get involved!"Monica gets supplicant, "Annie, don't you see that this story is a little weird? Jonas's family is taking this competition talk too seriously. The neighborhood is starting; we still have little shops... Try to open a bakery Downtown, or even in Tangamandápio! There they will see competition. Although it was not the case, I think it’s unfair to involve his girlfriend and future daughter-in-law.""Will we have a wedding after that?"Carina respectfully opines, "If he stops loving you because of that, then he is the fool, dear.""Annie, sit down, and let's talk calmly—" Monica gets up and tries to lead Annie to the sofa, but she dodges the other."I don't want to talk anymore, Monica. I just came to check it out of your mouth. Now I have to go home and
STREETCarlos is in his car traveling along the back street of Monica's house, looking for the number 33. He is attentive. When he finds the house, he brakes and examines the wires. He takes a flashlight and lights it, gets out of the car, and tries to see. Not so clear, it's night. He goes back to his car and goes on his way.Moments later, the car is following the path. Carlos notices Rose, walking home, a little hurriedly. Carlos looks further ahead. In Carlos’s view, a group of young people is standing right on the corner. Carlos moves forward in the car and then decreases the speed, looking closely.Unexpectedly, one of the young men goes to him, "Need help, boss?"Carlos answers him, "Just waiting for that lady who comes on the sidewalk.""So be it. Hey, girl!"Rose suddenly stops and gets scared."This guy here said he's waiting for you." The boy says it to her.Carlos adds to him, "You tell her he's from the police station. Roldão.""It is—", Hesitation, "Police station?"When
Miriam bounces on the chair and says in a tone of complaint, "Oh, Seu Aurélio, what a fright! Did you hear anything?""Was I supposed to hear or not hear something? I am very discreet."Sandra orders in an authoritative tone, "Bring cheese and ham pastries, two! Today I'm hungry."Monica gets into the snack bar, worried.Aurélio goes to her, "Can I wish you ‘good morning’?""Oh, Seu Aurélio, I let you. I need it.""Chicken patty always goes well in those hours. I imagine you want to talk about your friend Annie."Monica gets surprised, "Has she told you yet?""Daughter, don't worry. A long-term friendship just doesn't end easily.""She said she solves it with her boyfriend, but I felt that it was him who solved it."Aurelio acts like a big daddy, "Well, Annie is also a girl, she needs to learn to defend herself and impose herself. Come, the pie awaits you."Monica smiles yellowy and goes with him to the counter.Miriam disdains Monica, "She doesn't have a boyfriend and disrupts the dat
RESIDENTS' ASSOCIATION Total silence. Célio is still standing, listening. Tito is in an embarrassed beat, "We're still getting organized..." Sandra screams, "Get organized before I'm raped!" Célio reacts, "Turn your mouth over there, Sandra! I know who can help us." Sandra turns to him, "Who?" "It's Carina Sousa." Sandra got a pretty strong angry reaction to the pronounced name, "That dead-fly Carina, getting involved in public security matters? She trembles just because someone holds out a gun!" "I'm not saying that she will be the next Wonder Woman, but she can help us with—" Célio cleared his throat, "Advertising. There is the software called Corel Draw, which she knows how to work like never before." Tito says, "I've never heard of this girl, but if she can help, send her over tomorrow or today if you find her." Célio is glad to help, "Leave it to me, Seu Tito!" Cássio finally arrives, "And so, Célio, what job will be today?" Sandra turns to him and smiles, "Good mornin
PRAÇA DA GRANJA - DAYEd is riding his bike when he came across Miriam sitting on the same bench, now without the book. She is meditative and worried. He stops the bike beside her and she realizes, waking up from a trance."How are you, Miriam?""Hi, Ed, it looks like you were right. They are attacking my almost-boyfriend.""'Are they' in the plural?""There are more girls who like Chief Roldão. I'm not the only one. And now I'm here thinking about how I'm going to do it in front of them."Ed says poetically, "In love or war anything goes, right?"Miriam smiles, "I, at least, intend to play fair.""That's the way it’s said. Huh, Cassio scolded me early in the morning, fearing you would get crazy.""I talked to Sandra earlier. It's okay.""I’ll go on to pedal, burn the calories I acquired in those cheese pastries.""Cheese pas—"Miriam doesn’t finish, Ed straightens up on his bike and rides again.STREETCarlos goes this time in uniform and with the police car to the same house where th
