She hissed, her voice low but venomous.

Richard’s brows furrowed.

“You promised not to take back the antique,” she said, narrowing her eyes. “Yet you went behind our back, collected it from him and sold it! And the next minute, you went to lavish the money on an expensive villa?”

“Or you thought we wouldn’t know? Don’t you have a conscience at all??”

“Not you showing off now and living like royalty,” Lydia chimed in, stepping closer, her brows furrowed in disdain. “You’re the most selfish person I’ve ever seen.”

“Richard, how could you?” her mother continued. “After everything we’ve done for you as a family?? Shame on you!” she spat, her tone dripping with contempt.

“Shame on you, Richard. Shame on you!!” she shouted, reaching to poke him in the face with her finger.

Richard leaned backwards to avoid her finger, his brows furrowing deeply.

Though he was surprised by their misunderstanding, he remained calm. But a faint trace of annoyance was evident on his face due to Lady Wilson’s

“Great. Thank you,” Richard said and ended the call. Sliding his phone into his pocket, he walked back into the living room. “I apologize, but I need to head out. Something urgent has come up,” he informed with a polite tone. Sir Wilson rose from his seat, nodding understandingly. “No problem, Richard. I’ve got some things to take care of myself.”Lady Wilson and Lydia let out a sigh of relief, got up and murmured a few pleasantries. With that, everyone left the villa. Richard arrived at the restaurant in no time to meet with Mr Sterling. He found his way to the private room number stated in the address and knocked on the door.“Come in,” Mr Sterling’s voice came through from inside, calm and composed. Richard pushed the door open to find Mr Sterling seated at a round table, a small opened wooden box resting in front of him. “Ah, Mr Richard!” Mr Sterling greeted warmly, gesturing toward the chair across from him. “Please, have a seat.”Richard hurried to the table, his eyes lit

As Richard stepped out of the private room, a loud commotion drew his attention in the hallway. “Leave me alone! I’ll make sure you lose your jobs today!” Several security guards were dragging a man towards him, who trashed and shouted at the top of his lungs. Richard’s brows knitted together as he slowed his steps, a wave of familiarity washing over him. “Isn’t that Lydia’s cousin, Jordan?” he muttered under his breath, stretching his neck for a better view. His eyes narrowed. “It’s him,” his voice was low but laced with displeasure. The memories of the sneers, the mockery and the insults Jordan had rained on him at Sir Wilson’s birthday party immediately flooded his mind. “How could I forget his arrogance or his face after all that?” Richard kissed his teeth, shaking his head, his face twisting in disapproval. Jordan’s voice rang out, loud and enraged. “I said let go of me!” he yelled at the guards. “Have you forgotten who I am? Even Dustin, who is the owner of th

Richard arched an eyebrow, his expression still calm but tinged with a hint of amusement. He glanced at the security guards who looked uneasy after hearing Jordan’s claims. They didn’t know whether to go for Richard as well or not. Jordan, growing impatient with the guards’ hesitation to do something, sneered and snapped, “What are you waiting for? An invitation to his fan club?“Richard chuckled, shaking his head. “See who I was considering to help,” he muttered to himself.Initially Richard was considering whether or not to step in and help Jordan, but after seeing his behavior, he completely lost interest. He gave Jordan a final shake of his head, a mix of pity and disdain in his eyes, before turning to leave. The guards exchanged uneasy glances as they watched Richard leave, uncertainty still etched across their faces. They didn’t recognize Richard, and after Jordan’s claims, they were torn between stopping Richard or not. One of them cleared his throat and leaned towards t

He tried with all of his strength to free himself. But his bravado was short lived as one guard successfully twisted his arm behind his back, forcing him to yelp in pain. Jordan gritted his teeth, trying to fight back but his strength was no match. Within seconds, his wrists were locked tightly behind him, and he gave up, groaning in defeat. Richard didn’t move, his smirk widening ever so slightly as he watched Jordan’s attempts at bravado crumble into utter humiliation. The head security loomed over him, his expression cold, “You’ve had enough, young man. Stay down.”By now, Richard still hadn’t contacted Dustin. He waited until the security guards had taught Jordan a lesson before finally deciding to place the call. He reached for his phone and dialed Dustin. His tone was calm but carried an unmistakable authority. “Good day Dustin.”Dustin answered immediately, his voice warm and respectful. “Good day, Mr Richard. It’s a pleasure to hear from you. How may I assist you?”“I’m

Later in the day, Lydia arrived at Richard’s villa. Her father had instructed her to drive over and pick up Richard for the Vester’s banquet that was happening tonight. Upon hearing a knock on the door, Richard quickly went to get the door. Lydia strode in with confidence like she owned the place. She took a seat and crossed her legs before turning her condescending gaze to Richard. “My dad asked me to pick you up for the banquet,” she said and rolled her eyes. “When will you be ready?”Richard sighed internally. It’d have been best if Sir Wilson just didn’t bother, he thought. “Let me get dressed. I’ll be right back,” he said, turning to head to his room. “Please hurry up and don’t waste my time,” she called after him, her voice sharp to ensure he heard her. “Tch”After a while, Richard returned downstairs, ready to leave. The moment he walked in, she stood up, eyed him with intense disdain, and headed for the car. Richard, used to her behavior, didn’t mind her and quietly fo

Lydia’s satisfaction grew as she watched from a distance, her lips curling into a smug grin. Her eyes lit with joy and amusement as she leaned slightly to get a better view, ready to relish every second. She laughed and muttered, “He deserves worse in fact...”However, after the security’s words, Richard didn’t flinch or argue. Instead, he spoke in his usual calm tone. “Check with Janae Vester.”The guard’s expression immediately shifted, his brows furrowing. Was it possible for an average looking man to personally know Janae Vester? He gave it a thought but dismissed it. It was almost impossible. But for a second, he thought that what if… what if Richard was familiar with her?Would Richard have called her by her name like that if they weren’t familiar with each other? In mere seconds, he weighed the situation and decided to play safe. He picked up his radio and spoke quickly, “Confirm a Mr Richard Valkar with Ms Janae. Over.”A short moment later, the radio crackled with a resp

Lydia’s disdainful gaze lingered on Richard till he disappeared into the crowd.“He didn’t even take on your offer. When will you give up on him?” She said to her father and strode away, looking for Cane in the crowd. When she found Cane and realized he was now alone, she scurried to him, her heart beaming with anticipated excitement and victory. “Cane?” Lydia called softly, rubbing his arm from behind to get his attention. Cane turned, his expression flickering with mild annoyance as he faced Lydia, who greeted him with a bright smile. Shockingly, his reaction was one Lydia didn’t expect.“What is it, Lydia?” he asked, his tone clipped and his gaze glancing over her as though disgusted by her presence.Lydia hesitated briefly, caught off guard by Cane’s impatience and the unmistakable disdain in his voice. A tinge of confusion crossed her face, but she quickly masked it with a brighter smile. Her cheerful demeanor remained intact as she started, “How are you enjoying the ceremon

She chuckled and continued, “Aw you must’ve forgotten. Did you think you wouldn’t pay the price for lying to us about knowing Janae Vester the other day at the club??”Richard’s brows relaxed. “Cane here is very close to Janae, and trust me, he’s going to crush you without even lifting a finger,” she tilted her head, her expression feigning pity. “Do you have any idea what’s coming your way now?”As Lydia continued emphasizing Cane’s family’s formidable influence and taunting Richard about the consequences in store for him, her voice rose with self assured confidence.Expecting Cane to echo her words or, at the very least, step in to address Richard with disdain, she turned to him.But when her gaze landed on him, her expression faltered. Richard arrived at Blackridge a minute to eleven p.m. The entire area was dark, and quiet as no one lived there. It was more like a ghost town. Just as the clock ticked eleven, a searing, blinding light pierced through the darkened, flooding Richard’s vision. The glare came from multiple trucks hurtling toward him at very high speed. Richard knew it was Cane and he had brought men. He calmly watched their vehicles speed toward his, and he shook his head in pity of their future doom by his hands. Just as swiftly as they approached, they screeched to stop, leaving a calculated gap between them and Richard’s car. In perfect harmony, the doors of the trucks flung open. Over two hundred armed men stepped out, the sounds of their boots leaving a sickening sound echoing in the air.“The herb must be so important to you, I see,” a voice came from behind the men. And soon enough, Cane made his way to their front. Richard stepped out of his car.Just then, Richard noticed a familiar figu

But in the next instant, the amusement in his face vanished. He tilted his head, raising his eyebrow smugly. “You must be enjoying yourself,” he drawled. Richard didn’t bother looking up. He swirled the champagne in his glass. “Well, I was, until now.”Cane’s jaws tightened. “Why the fuck are you everywhere my Janae is??”Richard took a slow sip, casually looking around as if Cane’s words were nothing more than background noise. “My Janae? Interesting choice of words..”Cane’s nose flared as he struggled to keep his rage in check. He snapped his finger at Richard and sneered, “Stay away from her!”“Or what?” Richard finally locked eyes with him. Cane stepped closer, lowering his v

***The following day, Richard woke up to his ringtone echoing loud in his ears. When he checked the time, he realized it was already late in the morning. He yawned and quickly answered his phone. “Good morning, Mr Richard,” a familiar came through. “Trust you had a good night's rest.”“Good morning, Ms Janae,” he greeted back and sat up on his king sized bed. “Yes, I did. Thank you.”“I was hoping you’d be free tonight…” she paused, “my family is hosting a banquet. We’re launching our new hotel, and I’d like you to come as a guest.”“Thank you, Ms Janae. But…”“You can just see this as a way of saying I'm sorry, considering how the auction went the other day…” Janae quickly said before he declined. “You don’t have to apologize for that,” Richard began, proceeding to decline the invite again, but Janae saw through him and quickly interrupted.“I knew you’d decline, Richard,” she said, sounding a bit too casual. “Actually, I found one of the rare herbs you’ve been looking for…”She

She wanted more. “From what I found out, the technique you used is quite difficult and old… could it have been just luck?”Richard nodded. “Come to think of it, who is your master?” she suddenly asked. “Whose disciple are you?”“My master isn’t someone you would know…”“That’s true,” Delilah cut him, nodding. To her, there was no way she would know Richard’s master or have heard about him. Richard was a village doctor, after all. “What was I thinking, asking a village doctor about his master?” she chuckled. “Hmm… it must’ve been luck then,” she concluded, though she couldn’t shake the feeling that there could be more to Richard than she knew.“Please eat,” she said to him, gesturing to the food. But almost immediately, she continued. “Yes!”she
