Chapter 9

After hearing the employee mention the black card, a ripple of murmurs spread across the lobby.

Some whispered in awe, while others stared in disbelief, trying to catch a glimpse of the big wig holding the black card!

“Oh my God! It’s really the Supreme black card!” Ty Dwayne, one of the city’s elite exclaimed in a low tone.

The Supreme black card was an extremely rare symbol with only a few dozen people in the world possessing one.

While only five people in Kora had it.

It represented the highest of the highest wealth and status, reserved for the ultra rich.

The employee straightened up, “P-please, this way, sir,” she said, nervously leading him to the verification area.

Richard calmly strode behind her, paying zero attention to the murmurs.

The eyes of the customers followed the card as he moved, gazing at it with curiosity and surprise.

Lydia, who was conducting her business at a nearby desk couldn’t help but notice the commotion.

Her eyes narrowed in curiosity, and then widened in shock as she spotted the black card in Richard’s hand.

“Wait… is that the Supreme black card?” she murmured, shifting to catch a better glimpse. “How on earth does he have that??”

Her mind instantly began to race with doubts but also thoughts that she might have been wrong about Richard.

“No… it can’t be. He’s just some broke nigga, right? There’s no way he’s connected to something this rare and exclusive.”

Is this really real? she thought.

“Please place your right finger here,” the employee instructed.

Without hesitation, Richard pressed his right finger onto the sensor.

Suddenly, the system set off a loud alarm, echoing through the room.

*BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!*

Richard’s brows furrowed slightly.

“Wait! His fingerprint did not match the cardholder’s?“ a customer said.

“Tch. I knew it! His looks don’t match the aura. I’m sure he must have stolen his boss’s black card hoping to wipe away some funds.”

Others quickly joined in, muttering side comments.

The employee, already growing upset, began to think she might’ve been right to judge Richard by his appearance.

She forced a polite smile and said, “Sir, place your finger again.”

The moment Richard placed his finger, the system blared again.

*BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!*

She glared at him intensely, her eyes blazing with anger. “Where did you get this card from, you thief!” she said, through her clenched teeth.

Without letting him respond, she snapped. “A man like you with a Supreme black card? This scam is ridiculous,” she scoffed.

“You know, you almost fooled me and everyone for a second.” she said, her voice dripping with mockery, “let me guess, you stole it from your rich boss?”

“Ma’am,” Richard calmly started but got interrupted.

“Shut up! I am going to call the police right away. You can keep whatever you have to say for the police, you smelling thief.”

Lydia couldn’t help but chuckle at the drama going on.

”Tch. I knew there was a mistake somewhere. How could Richard own a supreme black card?” She said, shaking her head in pity.

Despite the chaos, Richard was surprisingly calm.

“I’d like to see your manager,” he simply said.

“He wants to see the manager. This man is shameless,” someone remarked loudly, making everyone, including Lydia, laugh.

“Broke and arrogant, typical Richard,” Lydia murmured, shaking her head and chuckling.

“Why haven’t you called the police yet?” An old man shouted at the employee. “Is it until he steals from us?”

Others joined in, expressing their dismay at a thief; Richard, around them.

Lydia couldn’t help but be embarrassed on his behalf that she got angry and left the bank.

The employee picked the desk phone and began to contact the police.

Just then, a deep authoritative voice echoed, “What Is going on here?”

It was the bank manager, Mr Goulder.

Silence instantly filled the room.

“Are you all now deaf and dumb?” he turned to his employees, but no one dared to speak.

“Good day sir, I’m Richard,” he said calmly. “I’m having trouble verifying my black card…”

The manager’s eyes widened in recognition. “Mr Richard!” he exclaimed, his tone shifting as if he knew him.

Turning sharply to the employee, he barked, “Are you new here?!”

“Don’t you know that any Supreme Black Card holder should be reported to senior management for verification, rather than jumping to conclusions about its authenticity?”

The employee began to apologize but the manager ignored her and faced Richard.

“Please come with me sir,” he said and escorted him to the VIP area.

When they got there, he offered him a seat and a glass of wine.

“Sir, may I have the card,” he asked and collected it.

After a while, the manager successfully completed the identity verification and placed a call for the cash to be prepared.

And almost immediately, the cash arrived.

“Thank you very much, Mr Goulder,” Richard said and stood up to leave.

The manager quickly stood up, “Please take this, Mr Richard,” he said, stretching forth a complementary diamond card from the bank.

Richard’s brows shot up in surprise, but he remained composed and accepted it.

“And here is my business card,” he added and gave it to Richard. “Please contact me directly whenever you need to conduct any business here at Fern.”

“Thank you for choosing Fern,” he said and bowed.

“Thank you,” Richard smiled.

He went on to open the door for Richard and personally escorted him out of the bank.

On getting outside, Richard took out his phone and called Janae.

She answered after the first ring, sounding surprised, “Hello doctor! I wasn’t expecting to hear from you.”

“Good day, Ms Janae, he said politely. “I need your help with something urgent. I’m trying to acquire a few rare herbs to treat someone’s illness, but I do not have the connections to find them quickly in this city…”

“I was hoping you might be able to assist,” he concluded.

Richard decided to ask for her help because he knew finding those herbs on his own would take a lot of time.

“That won’t be so difficult,” she replied. “but I’m currently busy so I can’t meet you right now, I’ll reach out once I’m free.”

“Alright, thank you,” Richard said and hung up.

At the moment, Janae was in her home with Delilah sitting across from her.

She cautiously glanced at Delilah as her nerves were already starting to strain.

Delilah was far more powerful than the entire Vester family, and just her stunning beauty and strong presence was more than enough to make Janae extremely nervous.

Earlier today, she had contacted Janae, saying she wanted to meet to discuss something personally.

But Janae had no idea what the mighty War Goddess wanted from her.

Delilah softened her expression and smiled warmly. “Please don’t be nervous, I mean no harm. I’m only here to seek for your help.”

Janae’s brows knitted in confusion, “my help?” she murmured, wondering what kind of help a powerful woman like Delilah would need from her.

“Yes, Ms Janae,” Delilah replied. “I heard that Sir Vester had been seriously ill but made a rapid recovery after being treated by a mysterious young doctor..”

Janae nodded slowly.

“..Please, could you help me contact him?”
