After everything, Wenton has no other place to go but his family, he would have gone home since except for the downcast spirit cast upon him, the mockery and made-to-feel-bad trait which his mother would likely portray towards him, he didn't want a situation where his depression would get worse. The long drive becomes a bit shorter and adventurous, more interesting than when he was coming to the woods. Of course his coming had nothing of interest, he came to avoid the pressures of life, then the attempt to commit suicide came in. Wenton looks out of the window of his car, admiring the beautiful houses, cars and people he passes on the road. He realizes that there is more to life than
