Chapter Three: $850,000 every month.

"I'm not seeing your parents," Bruce said bluntly and Jade scowled at him. "Don't stare at me like that. Your billionaire family won't be happy to see me."

"Where would we sleep?"

"You can go back home. I'm not coming with you."

"I'm not going without you either."

Jade was stubborn and it made Bruce wonder how he would live with a stubborn wife. Well, a stubborn wife was better than a cheat.

Jade entered her car, the Ferrari 488 pista. The door was wide open. "I'm waiting."

Bruce heaved a sigh and got into the car. Jade drove them to her father's mansion which was situated uptown, where most of the billionaires of the city lived.

Bruce got star-struck as Jade drove into her compound. J. J. Fulton's mansion screamed money.

They got out of the car and walked into the house. A party was ongoing.

"What's happening?" Bruce asked.

"What do you think is happening other than a small party?"

"Small party?" The wine available was surplus and none of the bottles of wine seemed to be less than $8,000. The guests were eating from a gold-plated plate and their clothes— none of the guests present excluding Bruce wore clothes that cost below $10,000.

Everyone present was as rich as the Fultons.

"Darling."

A middle-aged woman walked to them. Bruce recognized her at a glance. She was Lucia Fulton, wife of J. J. Fulton.

"Mom," Jade answered her mother's call. The woman walked up to Jade and draped her arms on Jade's shoulders.

"My baby, where have you been?" Lucia took a good look at Jade and gasped. "Why are you wearing this ugly, long, white gown? Darling, Jade, it's your engagement party, not your wedding. Even if it's your wedding, you'd never wear this ugly wedding dress."

Engagement party? It was Jade's engagement party.

"Come with me and change up before your fiancé arrives."

Lucia grabbed her hand but Jade took her hand away. "Mom, I'm married already."

"What are you saying? I know you're nervous, but honey, you need to calm down."

"I'm serious, mom. I'm married." Jade turned to Bruce. "He is my husband."

"What the heck are you saying?" Lucia was losing it.

"That on the day of her engagement to Bryan Athen, heir of a company with a net worth forty times ours, she married Bruce Ace, a pauper," Cole announced from the door and the guests present hauled in laughter.

"You and Dad wanted me to get married, right? According to the family rules, I have to get married to take my place as the CEO of the family business. Now, I've gotten married like you expected me to," Jade said fiercely and Lucia, her mother, glared at her.

Lucia turned to the guests and feigned a smile. "We wish the party could go on, but the party is now over. Please, non-members of the Fulton family should take their leave."

The guests began to mumble, but one by one they took their leave till the room was left with members of the Fulton family and Bruce.

"What's going on here?" A voice thundered.

Bruce was a little startled to see Mr. Fulton, but he pulled himself together. "Good day, sir."

"And who are you?" J. J. Fulton, the head of the family asked in an intimidating tone.

"Father, you said I can only get to be the CEO of Tekbos if I get married. I have gotten married and he is the person I got married to," Jade replied.

"You were supposed to marry Bruce Athen, the son of Nicholas Athen," J. J. Fulton thundered. "You know very well that the company would suffer a heavy financial loss if you don't get married to Bryan, but you went ahead to marry another man behind our back." He turned to Bruce and stared at him in disdain. "You chose a poverty-stricken street boy? Jade, are you crazy?"

"I don't want to marry Bryan Athen. The only way I could achieve this was by marrying another man."

"You must divorce the trash you brought in as your husband," J. J. Fulton growled.

"I refuse," Jade said sternly.

"You will. This down-and-out can never be my son-in-law." Lucia glared at Bruce. She turned to Jade. "Jade, you will divorce this guttersnipe. I refuse to accept him as my son-in-law. How would I tell my friends that my son-in-law is a poverty-stricken man who my daughter had picked from the streets?"

"Lucia, believe it or not; your daughter ended up marrying a poverty-stricken lad," Jemima, the wife of J. J. Fulton's brother said mockingly and Lucia glared at her.

"I don't care about what you all are saying. All I know is that I'm not divorcing Bruce and that's final," Jade said without wavering.

"Young lady, are you trying to drag my reputation into the mud?" J. J. Fulton was boiling.

"Darling." Lucia rushed to her husband. "We can solve this, can't we? We would just call the Athens and settle things with them, then we would get Jade to divorce that guttersnipe."

Bruce looked down at his feet. In a world where people value you based on the money and power you have, he was useless. It sucked.

"I'm not divorcing Bruce. We just got married," Jade said blatantly and her mother, Lucia, walked up to her and slapped her across the face.

"If you're not divorcing that golddigger you got married to, then you must pay for all the financial losses that Tekbos would face if Bryan's family cancel their cooperation with us which would definitely happen since you're now married to another man." J. J. Fulton scowled at his daughter. "Do you even think at all? Tekbos would suffer greatly if we lose the support of the Athens."

"Jade," Bruce called out. "Your parents are right. You should listen to them. I'd get our divorce papers ready."

Bruce turned to her parents. "We're very sorry. We acted on impulse and we would rectify our mistakes soon."

The last thing Bruce wanted was for anyone to have a hard life because of him. Him having a hard life was enough, and seeing another having the kind of life he had was unbearable.

"Bruce." Jade frowned at him. "We're not getting a divorce." She turned to her father and despite how intimidating he looked, she looked him in the eye and said; "I've made up my mind father. I'm not divorcing Bruce. You have to accept Bruce as my husband."

J. J. Father just stared at her. One look at his daughter was enough to convince him that she was serious when she said she wasn't leaving Bruce. "Very well then. I won't completely accept him as my son-in-law, but I'd let you marry him on one condition."

"What!" Lucia looked displeased. "My daughter is not getting married to a pauper."

"What condition?" Jade asked, ignoring her mother.

"We had a ten million dollar deal with the Athens. We would lose that much since you've rejected their heir. You have to pay off that money in a year. If you're able to have a stable job in which you earn at least $850, 000 per month, you should be able to pay for the financial loss Tekbos would face due to you ditching Bryan Athen. If you can get such a job, then you can keep Bruce," J. J. Fulton said flatly.

"Deal." Jade wasn't certain if she could pay, but she was willing to try.

Bruce thought she was crazy, but it was heartwarming to see how much Jade was willing to do to keep him as her husband. She made him feel special— a feeling no one has ever made him feel before now.

"Alright." J. J. Fulton smirked. "You have three days to get the job. After three days, the deal becomes invalid."

"Three days!" Bruce exclaimed.

"That's unfair," Jade protested.

"Then let's go back to you divorcing Bruce whether or not you like it," J. J. Fulton replied.

Jade frowned. She took a deep breath. She was a graduate of an Ivy League college after all. Getting a job in three days should not be hard, Jade thought to herself. The problem was getting a job that'll make her earn $850,000 every month.
