"Use this quickly. I'll be back to get it again later." The policeman gave Max the office phone, and then he left.

Max closed his eyes. He tried hard to remember the phone number of the person he wanted to call. He only had one chance, so he had to make the best of it.

He then pressed the number buttons and brought the receiver to his ear. "Please pick up, sir." He heard the phone ring for a long time, but he didn't see anyone pick up until the call ended.

Max clucked frantically. "What is he doing? Is it possible she's not picking up because it's a call from a phone number she doesn't recognize?" He was increasingly anxious, worried that his call would be completely ignored.
