A few days later, Wayne was finally ready to return to the Coopers family.
Drex drove Wayne back to the Cooper's mansion, and a few blocks away, Wayne tapped Drex on the shoulder, startling him.
“Sir…Master Wayne, what can i do for you?“ Drex stuttered.
“Stop me here.“ Wayne ordered leaning back on the seat and without any hesitation Drex stopped the car.
“I'm finally back .“ Wayne said, something under his breath, with a smile on his lips.
When Wayne got out of the red Lamborghini, Drex came out and knelt down.
“Please, Wayne, forgive me. I didn't mean to kill you. If you don't forgive me, your father will kill me. I didn't mean to hurt you, Wayne. You can hit me. I don't care. I'll do anything to own up to what I did.” Drex pleaded.
“You know what? You hit me.” Wayne mumbled something.
“What? Never! I would never do that to you, Wayne.” Drex hesitated.
“You want me to forgive you? Hit me, hit me really hard to the extent I bleed. It's not a request, Drex. It's an order. Come on, do it!” Wayne made it clear he was serious, and when Drex saw the serious look on Wayne's face, Drex knew Wayne wasn't joking.
“Are you sure about this?” Drex asked, visibly shaken, sweat rolling down his face.
Then, slowly, he got up and looked Wayne in the eyes. He balled his fist and punched him viciously.
“Oh, yeah! That’s right!” Wayne mumbled and gently touched the cut on his cheekbone.
“You can go.” Wayne gave the order.
Drex watched Wayne as if he'd suddenly lost it. First he tells him to hit him, and now he's ordering him to leave without asking for an apology.
“Thanks, Master Wayne. You can count on me whenever you need me.” He said as Wayne gave him a nod. Then he watched Wayne walk towards the gate and get into the Lamborghini, which then took off.
Wayne made his way to the living room, where all the members of the household were waiting.
“I guess I just got here at the right time.” Wayne thought to himself.
"Look who showed up after bringing shame to this family! With the letter your father claimed was a contract, this is how you both want to drag this family into the mud!" Mrs. Emilia shot Wayne a disgusted look.
She met his calm gaze with an icy stare and then turned to her husband, Mr. Cooper.
“How did you get involved in a fight with Mr. Bruce? What crime did you commit, you fool?” Mr. Cooper asked angrily.
"My father owed them money," Wayne explained. He looked at the faces in the room and saw only disgust, anger, and hate.
“This disrespectful, lazy animal, you stayed with us for a month. We clothed you, fed you, and this is how you repay us by ruining Amber's wedding. You bastard!” Aunt Matilda let out a scream.
The Mr. Jones Wayne they knew was quite different from who these people thought he was. They insulted the man without even trying to find out if he was a good person or not. It seems that they just didn't think he was good enough for them because he didn't have money.
Wayne knew he'd be forever in Mr. Jones' debt for saving his life that day and doing his best to take care of him. He could let these people insult him and get away with it, but he couldn't let them insult Mr. Jones and get away with it.
Each and every one of them made Wayne feel like a loser, but they only saw him as a failure. “Divorce him” was on everyone’s mind, but Mr. Oliver was the first to say it, before anyone else even considered it.
Mrs. Laurette felt like the worst mother in the world because her beautiful daughter married Wayne, who had nothing.
“I knew this was coming. I’d seen it earlier. He’s come to destroy this family!” Mrs. Laurette pleaded with Mr. Cooper, hoping he would at least try to reason with her and grant her wishes for Wayne to leave the family.
"I think they should get a divorce. This guy doesn't deserve Amber, and he offended Mr. Bruce. I don't want my daughter to be in danger." Amber's father, Oliver, said.
"That's a great idea." Mr. Cooper said he agreed. Mrs. Laurette's eyes lit up the whole room.
"At last," she thought to herself.
“But it’s all taken care of now.” Wayne mumbled something under his breath.
“What do you mean?” Mr. Cooper inquired.
“I’ve paid with my blood. “I don’t owe him anything more.” Wayne explained to them.
He turned to Amber to see how she was taking it all. At first, she looked worried, but when she noticed that he was staring at her, she gave him a frown.
He knew she had a good heart, but the people around her were hardening it and influencing her decisions.
“How can we believe you?” Mrs. Emilia asked Wayne to snap out of it.
“You just have to believe me.” Wayne said, and Mrs. Laurette laughed a bitter laugh.
“Can you imagine what this guy is saying?” Mrs. Laurette gestured to Wayne, eager to show the whole family that Wayne isn't to be trusted.
“It's fine. We believe you would have taken care of everything if you hadn't been standing here. Mr. Cooper interjected.
Everyone, except Amber's mom, couldn't help but laugh.
Mrs. Laurette stood up and looked at Mr. Cooper.
“Why do you treat Amber so poorly? Do you think it's a joke? Do you think marrying this guy is a joke?” Mrs. Laurette asked, referring to Wayne.
Mr. Cooper looked at her with a stern expression, and she left the room in a huff. Mr. Oliver followed his wife out.
One by one, they all left the living room, but Amber stayed put.
“You’re bleeding.” She looked at him and said, “You’re bleeding.”
He felt a blush rise to his cheeks. She wasn't angry at him, she was just concerned. He wanted to ask if she was worried about him, but he decided against it. Instead, he mumbled something.
“Don’t worry about me. I’m fine,” he told her.
“Who said I was worried?” She asked him.
He watched as she stood up and walked towards him. Her soft fingers brushed his blonde hair away from his forehead, and she cupped his face in her hand, looking at the cut on his face.
“It's not that deep. A bandage would do the trick.“ She said, then stepped back from Wayne. He tried to stop a smile from breaking out on his face. She actually cared.
“Nobody said this, but if you put this family in danger again, I'm going to get a divorce. Please be a responsible husband.”
Amber told Wayne what she thought, then walked away. Wayne watched her go, then kept watching until she was out of sight.
“I’m going to be a better husband from now on,” he said.
It was a Saturday morning, Wayne had gone to the garden, he loved the smell of the flowers and the sounds of the chirping birds, he spent most of his mornings there or when the Cooper's family didn't send him on an errand, the garden had become his favorite and only place in the Cooper's mansion. He heard footsteps and hoped it wasn't Aunt Emilia or her husband, or worse, Aunt Matilda."Wayne!" Amber called out."My grandfather asked to see both of us." She said. Wayne got up from the grass he was lying on."I need you to be at your best for us, because whatever you do affects me, okay?" Amber mumbled."All right, let's go." He said. They both arrived at Mr. Cooper's office, where Mrs. Emilia, Mr. Nathan, Mrs. Matilda, Mr. Oliver and Mrs. Laurette were all sitting, staring at Wayne with hate and anger. And it was then that he knew he was in for another problem."I called you all here because I am going to let Wayne to work for our company!" Mr. Cooper said."What?! No way, you can't l
Tears welled up in Amber's eyes, and she was left speechless. This was something she had worked and pleaded for, and now it was all ruined."What's wrong?" Wayne asked, noticing the sudden change in mood."Nothing, let's just go home," Amber said, wiping away her tears.Wayne had a feeling that something was amiss. Someone in the family must have orchestrated this.Seeing Amber so dejected made him feel bad too.Pulling up to the mansion, Amber got out of the car. She gazed at the grand building, then took a deep breath before going inside. She knew her grandparents would be disappointed in her. She was in big trouble, and her heart continued to race.Entering the living room, she found the whole family seated, as they did during emergencies or important discussions."Look who decided to show up," Mrs Emilia said bluntly.Amber's heart leaped into her throat."You foolish girl! You had the audacity to turn down Mr. Rolland's appointment to go on a date with that lowlife!" Mrs. Emilia
Mr. Leo woke up feeling worried; he had barely slept through the night."What if they find out?" he asked himself over and over again. He dressed for work and walked to the bus stop. He was about to approach a taxi when two muscular, tall men in black suits and black sunglasses approached him."Are you Mr. Leo?" Drex asked."Yes...yes...I am Mr. Leo, but I have done nothing wrong to Mr. Bruce," Mr. Leo stammered."How do you know we are here because we think you have done something wrong, or have you?" Drex asked."No..no please spare my life. I'm clean, everyone in this town knows that if you show up, you've either done wrong to Mr. Bruce, the richest man in power, and most of them don't live to tell the tale, please I don't want to die," Mr. Leo pleaded."Well you're right, but it's not my senior boss you've offended, it's his son, but you're lucky he asked me to spare your life, now go to the car and get in," Drex ordered."Mr. Bruce has a son?" Leo whispered and fell to his knees.
The next morning, the whole family gathered in the living room as usual, including Wayne.Mr. Leo was seated amongst them, sweating profusely with his body trembling as fear raced through him. He was scared because he knew the family wouldn't take what he was about to say lightly. Wayne had left him with only two options: confessing to the Coopers and Mr. Rolland or paying with his life. And Mr. Leo definitely did not want to die."What did you call us here for?" Mr. Cooper asked sternly. Slowly, Mr. Leo turned to Aunt Matilda. She looked terrified and worried. Then he glanced at Wayne who sat there calmly, with a soft smile on his lips. Wayne winked at Mr. Leo, reminding him of the consequences. Mr. Leo's lips became loose."It's me, I lied," he stammered. The whole family looked at each other in confusion."What do you mean by it is you?" Mr. Cooper asked."I was asked to lie to Amber about her meeting with Mr. Rolland. Please forgive me, it was never my intention," Mr. Leo pleaded,
Later that evening, Wayne phoned Mr. Leo to remind him that his job was not yet finished.“Remember, your job isn't done yet. First thing tomorrow morning, we'll meet with Mr. Rolland and Amber must sign the contract. If not, you'll still have to pay,” Wayne said.“Yes, Master Wayne. I'll schedule a meeting with Mr. Rolland first thing tomorrow. I promise, I'll do anything you ask. I don't want to die,” Mr. Leo pleaded.“Good,” Wayne replied before hanging up.The next day, Wayne tried calling Mr. Leo but received no answer.“But he agreed to meet Mr. Rolland today,” Wayne thought to himself. He then decided to call Drex.“I need you to go to Mr. Leo's house. It seems he's forgetting our deal,” Wayne instructed.“Alright, boss,” Drex responded.A few hours later, Drex called Wayne.“Boss, there's bad news,” Drex stated.“What do you mean?” Wayne asked in curiosity.“Mr. Leo is dead. I found him lying on his bed with a gunshot wound to his head,” Drex said. Wayne couldn't utter a word
The next day, Wayne told his men to track down the person Aunt Matilda wanted to kill Mr. Leo."Teach him a lesson and ensure he ends up behind bars," Wayne ordered. Little did Wayne know, Aunt Matilda had bigger plans in store for him. She had no intentions of harming him or Amber. Days and weeks passed without any sign of the assassin."Don't give up until you find him," Wayne instructed his men."Our presentation is in a few hours, and this is the script for your speech. I hope you're not nervous because I am," Amber mumbled, handing Wayne a sheet of paper."We've got this, alright?" Wayne reassured her."Okay," Amber replied with a faint smile. As every employee gathered in the conference hall, including the entire Cooper family, Amber heaved in a deep breath peaking through the backstage, felt overwhelmed."I don't think I can do this," she confessed to Wayne, who was standing behind her."I'm right here with you. Don't worry about anything." Wayne said, and in a split second h
Wayne left his father's mansion and headed to the Cooper's home, anticipating their confrontation. In the living room, Mrs. Emilia sat on the oversized couch, glaring at Wayne."Where the hell were you? Why did you skip the presentation? Do you think we handed you that role for you to mess around? You ungrateful fool!" Mrs. Emilia yelled. Her voice drew the attention of the other family members.Wayne didn't utter a word. He knew things would get sorted out soon, and the Coopers wouldn't have a say any more."You're a good-for-nothing! You dare to meddle in our family business?" Mr. Nathan chimed in."Father, this man is incompetent. I want my position back. I promise not to repeat my mistake. Plus, we all know they can't handle this company," Aunt Matilda interjected."Exactly! Amber did well. Matilda, you can assist Amber. As for this man, he'll be back to doing household chores. He's not fit for any job since he can't get anything right," Mr. Cooper declared disappointly, followed
Drex refrained from harming the man. "How much are they?" Drex asked the sales manager."Five dollars, twenty-five cents," Mark responded. Drex paid for his packs of cigarettes, and decided to wait for the man in his car.He pulled out his phone from his trousers, and dialed Wayne's number. Wayne lay exhausted in his room, having completed all the household chores.Weary and drained, he maintained his facade, biding his time until the opportune moment to reveal his true identity.Abruptly, the door swung open, disrupting his moment of respite. Annoyed, Wayne turned to find Bailey standing before him."Hey, nanny, I need you to drive me to my hair appointment," Bailey demanded."I just finished all the chores, and I haven't eaten since morning. It's evening now. I really need some rest," Wayne replied, disinterestedly."Are you defying your duties? Get up and take me to my appointment; I can't be late. Otherwise, I'll inform my mother when she returns from work," Bailey threatene
