153 – DANGER AND THE STORM

THREE DAYS AGO

Luke was certain he’d paced his entire office one thousand times.

He stares at his phone, willing Nina to answer his twentieth call but the call ended up going to voicemail. Again.

“She’s not picking up.” He whispered to himself. “I need to do something.”

Ignoring the old man who was still seated at his table, he picked up his keys and was about to exit the room when he stopped him.

“And where are you going?”

Luke paused.

“To Nina’s house. She's not answering her calls. I need to make sure she’s okay.”

“She’s not answering because her battery is dead.”

Luke froze. Two seconds later, he pivoted slowly and faced the smug old man.

“What did you say?”

“You heard me.”

“Well, how did you know that?”

“I’m a Rydling, remember? I know everything.”

Luke was trembling at this point.

“Where is she? Do you know that, too?”

“Not really, but I know where she’ll be in the next thirty minutes and how Carmichael’s wife is planning to kill her.”
