Sierra’s head shot up, eyes wide as she turned to look at Elijah, silently wondering if he was about to tell her mom about the Chris situation.

Elijah met her gaze, reading the silent plea in her eyes, but instead of mentioning anything, he smirked and leaned against the counter. “Oh, I was talking about her performance last night,” he said smoothly. “She was supposed to rest, but instead, she’s up and cooking.”

Sierra let out a breath of relief, but she still gave him a small glare for scaring her like that.

Mrs. Lane chuckled. “Ah, I see. That does sound like my Sierra.”

Mrs. Lane’s tone softened, turning serious. “Elijah, I need to ask you something.”

Elijah straightened. “Go ahead, Mom.”

“Please… protect Sierra for me,” she said, her voice laced with emotion. “She’s my only child. I know she’s stubborn and doesn’t always think things through, but she has a good heart. I won’t be there to watch over her, and it scares me. I need to know she’s safe.”

Betty was fast asleep on the bed, curled up under her blanket, when her phone suddenly rang. Groggily, she reached for it, blinking at the screen before answering. "Sierra? Sierra, how are you? Oh my sister, are you fine?" Betty’s voice was laced with concern, immediately shaking off her sleepiness. A soft chuckle came from the other end. "I'm fine, I'm fine," Sierra assured her. Betty sighed in relief. "When Elijah texted yesterday that you were fine, I wanted to speak with you, but he said he was out getting medication, and I shouldn’t worry you while you were being treated.” "Yes, I was receiving treatment," Sierra confirmed. "My phone is even damaged—all cracked and everything. I'll change it today." "Are you coming home?" Betty asked, sitting up now. "Not yet. I have other things to do, so I might be with Elijah for a while." "Alright. So what about that idiot Chris? What happened to him?" she asked, irritation creeping into her voice. "I can't tell for sure, but I think E

There was guilt in his eyes, and somehow, that made her feel guilty too. She swallowed, nodding. “Alright.”She pulled her hands back, standing up. “The food is ready. Let’s go eat.”Elijah gave a small nod, watching her for a second before finally getting up to follow her. They walked to the dining hall in silence, the tension from earlier still lingering in the air.Sierra pulled out a chair. “Sit,” she said, her voice neutral.Elijah sat down, watching her as she moved around the dining table. "Oh, I felt it would be good for you to be with Elijah throughout the week, at least to help you relax and all," Betty said with a sly smile. "I’ll take care of the house nicely for you."Elijah, who was still eating, didn’t even lift his head. He acted as if he hadn’t heard a thing.Sierra turned to Betty with wide eyes. "You… ah, stay for a week as how?"Betty shrugged casually. "Just like that. You clearly need a break. I mean, look at you—after everything that happened, you deserve to rest, and Elijah is rich and capable, so why not?”Sierra scoffed. "Betty, please, what kind of idea is that? I didn’t say I was moving in. I just needed some clothes for today!"Betty rolled her eyes. "Oh please, Sierra. You’re always acting like you don’t like what’s good. What’s even wrong with staying here for a few more days?"Elijah finally exhaled, set his fork down, and looked up. Soon, both of them stepped out of their rooms, ready for the day.Elijah emerged first, dressed in a fitted black t-shirt and a pair of trousers that complemented his frame perfectly. His short dark hair was neatly styled, and the scent of his cologne filled the air—a rich, masculine fragrance that made his presence even more commanding. His wristwatch glinted as he casually adjusted it, looking effortlessly good without even trying.A moment later, Sierra stepped out, dressed in a chic yet comfortable outfit. She wore a soft beige blouse that draped elegantly over her figure, paired with high-waisted jeans that accentuated her curves. Her hair was neatly styled, falling effortlessly over her shoulders, and her minimal makeup highlighted her natural beauty. She had a subtle floral scent that mixed pleasantly with Elijah’s cologne, creating a soft yet captivating blend in the air.Elijah turned to look at her, his gaze sweeping over her from head to toe. "You look nice," he remarked ca

As he walked in, several employees greeted him respectfully."Good morning, Mr. Damian.""Morning, sir."He gave a brief nod in response but didn’t slow his stride. His presence alone commanded attention, and even those who weren’t directly greeting him subtly straightened their posture.Inside, the office was fully active, with employees focused on their work. Unaware of what had been planted in his office earlier, Damian pushed open the door to his workspace and stepped inside, ready to begin his day.Soon, Sophia arrived at the company, dressed beautifully, her makeup flawless and her outfit perfectly tailored to highlight her elegance. As she walked in, heads turned, and murmurs spread among the employees."Sophia, you went to the Dominion event, right?" one of them asked, hoping for some inside details."Yeah, tell us about it. We saw clips on TV!" another chimed in.But Sophia ignored them, walking past without acknowledging their curiosity. Instead, she made her way toward Dam

Damian chuckled, getting up from his chair again and walking toward her. “What could possibly go wrong?” He tilted his head, his eyes gleaming with amusement.Laura glanced away, as if unsure. “I don’t know… things like this can get messy. And if the boss finds out—”“Tch.” Damian scoffed. “She won’t. I have everything under control.” He took another step closer, lowering his voice. “Laura, all you have to do is listen to me, and I promise things will get better for you here. You don’t have to struggle like the others.”She forced a small, hesitant nod. “I… I’ll think about it.”Damian grinned, clearly pleased. “That’s all I ask. Take your time.”Laura nodded again before finally turning and walking out of his office, her heart steady but her mind racing. She had planted the seed—now it was only a matter of time before Damian dug his own grave. As Laura turned to leave, Damian suddenly reached out and slapped her ass, his fingers lingering as he tried to pull her closer."Sir!" The man’s fingers moved swiftly over his phone screen, snapping a picture of the car and sending it in a flash.Elijah carefully opened the back door of the Prado and placed the beautifully wrapped bouquet—white and red roses mixed with some fresh lilies—gently onto the back seat. The day had moved faster than he expected.Without wasting time, he got into the driver’s seat, buckled up, and started the engine with a soft hum. It shouldn’t be this way—for a whole police station, with your name and rank tied to it.”Dorson raised a brow, watching him.Elijah continued, “The paint on the walls is peeling like it hasn’t been touched in years. The hallway smells like damp papers and sweat. I passed broken ceiling tiles, exposed wires near the light switch. Some of your officers looked like they haven’t had new uniforms since 2010. Even the floor tiles in the corridor were cracked. Superintendent, you’re a big man—this shouldn’t be your standard.”Dorson’s face tightened s
