Chapter 26. New Era

As consciousness crept back, I struggled to my feet, unaware of how I'd ended up on the cold marble floor. A sudden jolt of fear shot through me when I saw an ashen, furry arm where my human one should be.

"What in the devil's name?!" I exclaimed, horror etched on my face.

Stunned, I examined my transformed body. I had become a wolf-like creature, but with a twist – my physique was eerily humanoid. No razor-sharp fangs or protruding saberteeth marred my features, unlike the werewolves I knew or those depicted in movies.

Perplexed, I wondered why my transformation differed. Was it because I hadn't yet reached the threshold of a thousand human kills, a milestone Mahjong had achieved? Did that explain the incomplete transformation?

Curiosity got the better of me. I flexed my new arm, marveling at the incredible strength coursing through me. My senses had heightened, too.

But what exactly was I now? Not a full-fledged werewolf, that much was clear. An anomaly, perhaps?
