Chapter 36. Web of Deceit

The darkness was oppressive, the team's frantic whispers filling the air.

Xavier's grip on his phone tightened. "Maximus, get the backup generators online!"

Maximus's voice was laced with urgency. "Working on it, Xavier!"

Frank's eyes locked onto the screens. "I'll manually override the system."

Janice's gaze never left Frank. "I'll assist."

Sofia's voice whispered in Xavier's ear. "Don't trust Janice."

Xavier's eyes narrowed. "Why?"

Sofia's smile was fleeting. "She's hiding something."

As the generators hummed to life, the screens flickered back on.

The hacking progress was alarming.

Frank's fingers flew across the keyboard. "I've almost got it."

Janice stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Frank, her eyes fixed on the screen.

Xavier watched, his instincts screaming warning.

Suddenly, Janice's hand brushed against Frank's.

A spark of electricity seemed to pass between them.
