Jason took a napkin and cleaned his hands as he got into the car, so there would not be any sign at all that he had been near drugs. He looked regular, as though he had just come from work. He decided to go to the office even though it was so late at night. He needed some files as he had postponed a meeting that he had earlier in the day. He was intent on carrying out the operation first before he could do anything else and now that it was out of the way, he wanted to focus on what was important. Laura was still in the office when he got there, but he was not surprised. He was used to her presence at the office whenever he got there. He wondered when she had time to take some rest. Her husband was a house husband and they had an understanding. She brought in more than enough money to cater for the home and the fees of the kids. Her husband worked from home or did nothing at all. She did not mind at all, as she did not see any need why them should even have an extra source of income.
The news was everywhere in the papers, and on television, and was even carried by some blogs about what had been done. Everyone was talking about it, and social media was buzzing with the information. After the death of Evian the previous day, Jason had plans when he asked for the body to be disposed of. He instructed Gustavo on exactly what to do, and by the following morning, the deed was done. Evian's dead body was hanging on the billboard of one of the most popular cinemas in the heart of the city. There was a sign on a board that was hung around his neck. It read, “I am a horrible man and I was responsible for the mass killing and poisoning of students yesterday. This is my reward.” “Jason, have you seen the news?” Laura hollered at him as soon as he answered the phone that morning. It was her calls that had woken him up after a long night. “I'll check it right away and call you back,” he said sleepily before he hung up. He grabbed the remote immediately and turned on the televi
Jason was about to dash out of the hospital before he saw Jasmine coming in. He would have followed another route to avoid speaking to her but she was already walking towards him. He kept his head down in an attempt to ignore her, but she was not going to back off. “Jason,” she called out as she got to where he was. He lifted his head to look at her but did not say anything. “You cannot continue to ignore me,” she sulked. “I don't want to talk to you right now. I have a meeting to attend,” he said as he walked past her and out of the hospital. Emilia had told him that she had been coming to see Jason at the hospital since the surgery, and had even gotten him a few things. Jason could only think that she was trying to atone for the terrible thing that she had done. Gustavo was already waiting for him outside the hospital. Jason could not fathom how safe he felt around Gustavo, who was always alert and ready to act on instructions as swiftly as possible. “Good job,” Jason said to him a
It rained heavily on the morning of Evian's burial, and the time was shifted for a while. After his body was abandoned at the mortuary, it took a lot of convincing for Klaus to finally ask for a burial. Evian had no family after all and there was no one else to do so. Jason stood in a corner, dressed in his long black coat. He had added a black hat for more effect. The room was already full of people and he did not intend to communicate with anyone. “I thought you were not going to come,” Klaus said as he approached him. “I said I was not sure if I could make it. I had an important meeting scheduled for this morning and I have to be on my way soon,” Jason corrected. “What do you think about this common enemy that is messing with our lives?” Klaus asked him. “We are not sure if it is a common enemy. It might just be loose ends on our part that give the enemy a chance of penetration,” Jason began. “We have grown so confident that we have suddenly let our guard down.” Klaus was silent a
As Jason sat in the plane and headed back to where he came from, he thought about how much of a close shave it was with Rasheed. He was not expecting to see him at all. He kept wondering if Rasheed was the amazing man that Zahrah was talking about. If he was, then he has succeeded in deceiving her. He wondered if she was aware of the kind of business that he did. She probably did not know that the man that she adored so much was a drug Lord, and was a member of a deadly cult. She had to be ignorant about it because, from what he saw, Zarah was so much of a good woman to have anything to do with a man like Rasheed. He soon got to the airport and when he did, he decided that he would head to the office first. Laura needed first-hand information on what had happened. As he entered her office, she was searching his face for some information, but he succeeded in maintaining a blank expression. He took a seat first before he broke into a smile. “Was it good news?” She asked him. “I signed
Jason stood up from bed very early, as he had a long day ahead of him. It had been three weeks since Jacob had been released from jail, and just like he had promised, he decided that he would give Jacob an orientation to the family business. Daphne was still very fast asleep when he was done dressing for work. He could not blame her at all. She had been awake for some time during the night to cater to a crying Benjamin. After the nurse left, it had been difficult for her to adjust to taking care of the baby alone. At some point, it was as though she was getting frustrated with the responsibility that she was saddled with and she would start crying. When he noticed that, he would usually offer her a helping hand so that she would not feel abandoned or frustrated. She appreciated his support. It showed in the way she embraced him or the way she kissed him. Jason walked up to the bed and planted a kiss on her forehead, causing her to stir in her sleep. “I'm off to work, baby. You know I
Jason was confused about what to do next at the moment. He kept trying to call her as he dashed to the elevator that led to the penthouse they occupied in the mansion. He prayed that by some miracle, Daphne was upstairs and sleeping peacefully with their son. That would give him so much relief. But when he got there, the room was empty. He went ahead to look into the bathroom but there was no one there. His heart began to thump loudly as he rushed downstairs again. Gustavo was waiting for him when he came downstairs. “I can't find Daphne and the baby,” Jason blurted out in a worrisome voice before Gustavo could even ask him what was wrong. “I had two of my men follow her to the hospital. Let me try to call them,” Gustavo said as he took out his phone. He was so calm, as though he was very confident that there was nothing wrong with them. Gustavo called them over and over again but none of them answered. He began to get worried as well. “This is very unusual,” Gustavo muttered as he
Jason clicked on the speaker button on the phone so that everyone could hear what the caller was going to say. The line was silent for a while, and Jason thought that it was just a prank call. “Hello Jason,” a familiar voice finally came on the line. It did not take him long to figure out who was on the line. He could detect Angelina's voice in a crowd. It was too deep for a female voice. “I am guessing that by now, you are shaken with fright at the disappearance of your wife and daughter,” she said with some kind of amusement in her voice. Her audacity annoyed him so much. “Angelina, I swear, if anything happens to them, you are going to regret it,” Jason fired at her. Ben immediately signaled him not to say anything again, so that they would not provoke her. Jason did not seem to care at all. He was just angry. “I would not be making threats if I were you,” she said. “You have no idea where I am or where your wife and child are, so I would be quiet and cooperate if I were you,” she
