Beverly went down on her knees and embraced her son. It looked like he had lost some weight.

He was so delighted to see her. It showed that he was not being treated well where he was.

"Thank you," she mouthed to Jason, her eyes clogged with tears that threatened to spill any minute. She held them back because she did not want to smear her face.

"Where are you off to this early?" She asked him. She looked at him as though he was feigning ignorance.

"I start work today, and I do not want to be late," she said. He looked at his wristwatch.

"If you do not want to be late, then you should have been out of here thirty minutes ago," he said to her.

"I won't tolerate tardiness at work," he said to her. She could not tell if he was serious or not. His face was expressionless.

Even if she liked that he was being professional with her, she did not want to lose the many benefits that came from being acquainted with him.
