“Bowman, someone took a shot at my life last night,” Laxus told Bowman while he waited for the arrival of the agent that Bowman talked about.

“You cannot be a businessman without enemies,” Bowman simply said.

“But I did not have enemies or faced life threats when I worked at the Kinkaid Distillery Company,” Laxus said, pondering on what had happened.

“That should tell you a lot,” Bowman said.

“Hold on…does that mean that my family is the one behind this?” Laxus asked.

In all honesty, he had never known antagonism and threat until he turned his back on his family. A few weeks ago, Linnie had shown up at his doorstep unannounced and he had been arrested right after that happened. Right now, Laxus could not think of anyone else that might want him harmed except his family, but would they be dangerous enough to want him dead?

It was one thing to be set up by one’s own family, but murder? Laxus shuddered at the thought.

“Listen, Laxus, I think you should focus more on getting your apartment

Nessy busied herself with waiting tables, but her mind was not settled. Since she sent Laxus a voicemail about needing him, she neither got a response nor a call back, which made her worried. To Nessy, this was the second time that she was calling Laxus and he did not come to her aid. She had also noticed how subtly dismissive he had been towards her, but she had ignored the signs because she felt that because of what happened, they were friends.Last night, when Laxus did not show up, she had gone to his apartment after she closed from work, but then again, he hadn’t been home.“I just hope he is okay,” Nessy said to herself as she went about her work. She worried about Laxus because she liked him enough as her friend. Something drew Nessy to Laxus; she could not explain it, and she could not control it either. After th

“It hurts, right?” Drake sneered at Nessy as he could see that she was stunned beyond words and she could not get her eyes off the screen.Drake reached out and snatched the phone off Nessy’s hand.“Now you can stop being delusional and know where you belong,” Drake added despitefully.Nessy’s hold on the stool for defense had weakened. She could not begin to explain how it made her feel, other than the fact that Drake was right. Not that Laxus owed her anything; far from that, and Nessy was never an entitled young woman who believed that anyone owed her anything, but she just felt slighted and pained. When she had accidently killed Gary, Laxus was the only one she could think to call as a friend that she could trust, and he had not only shown up, he had also helped her get out of the situation without getting caught, even though she was still getting threats. Nessy just felt that Laxus should have said something to her instead of just abandoning her like that after knowing what she h

They rarely ever met up in Darwin’s house, because even while growing up, especially without their mother, Darwin often shipped them off to their grandmother’s. Luther never like at it their grandmother’s either, only Laxus did, so when he was grown enough to make his own decisions, he simply went from one rented apartment or a friend’s crib to another. However, calling him out of the blue to come to the office on a Sunday did not sit well with Luther. He was supposed to be at one his games, at least to clear his head from what they had all watched on TV about Laxus. Nothing pissed Luther off more than seeing Abby flaunt herself to Laxus on national television!“Can you even pretend to care about what is going on?” Darwin

“What?!” Darwin barked into the phone. “How is that even possible?” Darwin asked.Luther sat up straighter, alarmed. At least, he was not new to this news, because he had actually been present when his father had sent for the lawyer to be attacked…not killed, attacked so that he would be unable to get across to Laxus while they deliberated on the right course of action to take to get the property to become theirs.“I just found out, and to be sure, I actually showed up at the hospital, but he is truly not there. I used my influence as an officer to demand to see him, but he wasn’t there. I am just leaving the hospital now,” Detective George said over the phone.Darwin ground his teeth in annoyance and frustration. “He didn’t die, did he?” Darwin asked, because that could also be another reason why he is no longer in his ward.According to the person Darwin hired to carry out the action, he had ensured that he dealt thoroughly with Barrister Dickson, enough to place him in the hospital

  • Rise Of The Rightful Heir   An Old Staff

The biggest mistake Laxus realized he had made on that Monday morning was publicly announcing recruitment into the company. It was the first time that Laxus would ever be in charge of hiring staff, and because he wanted to work with the absolute best, he had to handle the interviews himself. Laxus knew the advantage of having dedicated, hardworking, intelligent, and brilliant staff members, and being that this was a new company, he did not want to make any mistakes.“Maybe I should have just taken Abby’s offer,” Laxus said to himself as he entered his office. When he was driven into his company in his fleet of convoy, his premises had been filled to the brim with candidates who wanted to secure a job with the biggest Distillery Company ever established, so much so that Laxus had to get in through the back of the company. Linnie waited for Darwin’s reaction after he read the news in their living room. Luther had called him the next day and he hadn’t wasted time to come to the house.“How dare they?” Darwin blew hot. “That was just a moment that happened because of what also happened,” Darwin said.“Now they are out spreading false narratives about not just you and our family, but the company,” Luther said. “They have even withdrawn the contracts that we were supposed to get after the interview,” Luther added.Linnie stared at them, shaking her head.If she had been the one who was responsible for this, she was certain that Darwin would be biting off her head by now. He had always posed himself as a man that was incapable of mistakes. Ever since Linnie knew Darwin, he always painted a perfect picture of his personality and the company to the public to see, and now, because of the agitation and bitterness that came from Laxus’s emergence, he had ruined a great deal for the company.“It is bad enough that

“How is it going?” Bowman asked Laxus as he served Laxus his favorite wine in his bar in his mansion.“This week has been the craziest week of my life,” Laxus said, accepting the wine and downing it in one swoop. He hadn’t tasted wine at all the entire week, not to talk of something as good as expensive as what he was having now. He arrived at the company early to resume interviews of staff members and closed later at night. Laxus even hardly had time to eat. The only time he had to eat was dinnertime, and the chef whom Bowman had stationed in his new mansion did her job perfectly well. She always ensured that Laxus had dinner before going to bed otherwise Laxus would have skipped dinner as well. No matter how early she tried to wake up to fix breakfast, Laxus was always earlier. “You look drained already,” Bowman said, chuckling. “Have you even had time to shave? I can see your stubbles,” Bowman observed, and he was not jesting around.Laxus used his hand to touch his face, and he r

It was dawn now, and Laxus did not feel like untangling himself. When he had suggested they got married, Laxus hadn’t envisioned sex as part of the bargain, and maybe that was why neither of them spoke about it. Granted, Laxus had been somewhat attracted to Nessy, especially recently, and that would most likely explain the awkwardness between the two of them, but never had he thought that they would jump into bed with each other as soon as they were alone in the same space. To be honest, Laxus had spent the other night at Bowman’s because he did not know exactly what to do with a wife or what to say to Nessy. One thing that Laxus had first come to realize about Nessy was the fact that she was effortlessly beautiful.Unlike Linnie when they started dating who needed to apply literally every beauty product on her just to look gorgeous even though Laxus tried to tell her severally that she was beautiful just the way she was, and that she did not need to do too much, but all of that had fallen on deaf ears. Linnie felt humiliated.“Your services are no longer required in the company,” Darwin said tightly, his voice harsh, but then again, she was used to it by now.Right from the first day she got acquainted to Darwin when she was still with Laxus, Darwin had never played nice with her.“I don’t understand,” Linnie said, trying to keep the tears from coming to her eyes, because she knew that if they came, she would definitely shed them, and Linnie would hate to give Darwin or even Luther the impression that they were hurting her this deeply.“What don’t you understand, Linnie?” Luther asked impatiently. “Dad alr

Is he doing this for popularity or publicity?” Darwin asked, fuming dangerously.Linnie returned back in time with no one suspecting her, and the buzz of Laxus’s marriage announcement and Abby Golden’s passing out not only made it easy for Linnie to slip out of the company unnoticed just as she had come, but also kept her out of the headlines. She had successfully been able to attend the function without being noticed by anyone, even though the outcome wasn’t what she had anticipated at all.Linnie was relieved that it wasn’t Abby Golden that Laxus had made that announcement with; maybe she would have been the one who collapsed, but at the same time, she was heartbroken and devastated.“He did it to spite me,” Linnie told herself all through the night. She could not sleep a wink!Of course Laxus had no idea that she was there, but he knew without a doubt that it would make the headlin

  • The Big Announcement

The entire city was going ablaze again by the news of Laxus’s hamburger store launching.Every blogger and news press were talking about it. TV show hosts have nothing else to talk about other than it. All the bloggers and paparazzi were all gathered at the company already. It was a big day in Las Vegas, just like the day Laxus’s company was launched.“He is making waves, again,” Linnie said as she kept on reading posts about it from different blogging sites. She could not even keep her phone down. It was obvious that Laxus would soon become one of the biggest names in the city. Ever since the launching of his company, he had been soaring higher; way higher than the Kinkaid Distillery Company, even though Darwin would rather die than admit it. Now more than ever before, even though Linnie had been telling herself otherwise sometimes, she wished she hadn’t betrayed Laxus. Now, she wished that she stayed with him even when Darwin came with the offer to remain in the family by marrying

  • Marry Me

Laxus did not waste time after his lengthy discussion with Bowman whom he now greatly regarded, and as Bowman even gave his consent, Laxus didn’t hold back.He left his office and went to meet Nessy at the hamburger store. The hamburger store launching was the next day, after which they would travel for the Zayomi contract, and Laxus wanted to fix everything. Another thing that boosted his confidence was the fact that Bowman assured him that Darwin had been taken care of, and he would not be going on with the lawsuit anymore.“How did you do it?” Laxus had asked, believing Bowman completely.“That is not something you should worry yourself about. All you need to do is get everything set from your own end; you are not going to be facing any hindrances or adversity,” Bowman had assured him.Bowman never told Laxus how he went about these things, and it made Laxus worried and surprised, especially being that it involved someone as powerful and controlling as Darwin, but at the same time

  • A Firm Decision

The first thing Laxus did in the morning after his routine of going about and checking around was to call Bridget into his office.“Sir, you have a meeting by…” Bridget started, but Laxus stopped her immediately.“I didn’t call you so that you could read my schedule to me, Bridget, and for today, you can simply send it to my mail and set a reminder so that I will get it from here,” Laxus said.He could not even bring himself to be as friendly as he was with Bridget; maybe he would be after he was done addressing the issue, but he wanted to get it done and over with.Bridget seemed surprised, because Laxus had never been this way towards her. She also noticed that he was somewhat cold towards her when he arrived at work this morning. His cordiality just seemed too formal and stiff.“Have I done something wrong, sir?” Bridget asked, her heart skipping a bit.“Have you booked the flight for this week that I asked you to?” Laxus asked, even though it wasn’t exactly what he wanted to talk

  • Abrupt Change Of Mind

Linnie could hardly make out what happened the night before. Even when she had managed to get home and tried to tall to Luther, which was obviously pointless because he was angry as hell over what Linnie knew nothing about, it yielded to nothing.“Something is wrong,” Linnie kept telling herself all night.First of all, why did Darwin ask his convoy to leave without him? He obviously wanted to deceive people into thinking that he had left, but all for what? Linnie’s suspicions have been confirmed; he was definitely hiding something in his office. Then she remembered the box that was snatched from Laxus. The one the detective told her that Luther handed over to his father.“He is hiding that box in his office,” Linnie pondered to herself, alone in her bedroom all night. She did not sleep a wink at all, because after realizing that Darwin had to be hiding the box in his office, and also telling herself that she would do anything to find out about it, Linnie then began to think about the
