“Are you okay?” Nessy asked, shocked at Laxus’s reaction to her question.

Laxus quickly got over his initial shock and he bent low and picked up the spoon that had fallen to the ground. He did not expect to be asked that question, considering the fact that he was going over and beyond to keep his identity as a Kinkaid private. First of all, this was the exact reason he did not want to have anyone in his space. Laxus deliberately did not make any friends since he moved down here, because he was trying to avoid situations like this, and if Nessy hadn’t been stranded, he would never have invited her to his apartment. Secondly, Laxus did not realize that he still had a pen from the family company with him. He guessed that was the only thing of the Kinkaid clan that he had with him. Recalling now, the Kinkaid Distillery company pen had always been in his pocket every single day right from the time he started using pen to write when he was a kid, so it was only natural that he would have ha

It took Laxus some time to be able to get over his shock.“Excuse me sir, but that is a blatant lie!” Laxus said defensively. The recipe he had been using to make hamburgers that had been making customers troop into the restaurant was his grandmother’s secret recipe which Laxus had inherited from her when she died. Often times, when he was much younger, he usually spent time with his grandmother at the Kinkaid family mansion. What a lot of people didn’t know was that Laxus’s maternal grandmother was the head behind the Kinkaid Distillery company. She had inherited it from her father who didn’t live long enough to build the company to its peak, and out of love, had allowed her husband to be the face of the company while she stayed at home to take care of their two daughters, Laxus’s mother and her younger sister, while still brainstorming for the company. As the business grew and expanded over the years, what people didn’t know was that it was divided into two companies; the Kinkaid Di

“Who are you, and why would you ask me to get into your car just like that?” Laxus asked, his voice almost quivering in fear.He looked around, hoping to see passersby like him who could help him, but mysteriously, Laxus was the only one walking the pedestrian lane that morning, or maybe he had been the only one, but he didn’t realize it until now. Laxus had no idea who this person was or who had sent him, and he was already out here in the street long enough to know how dangerous and deadly it could be. When he was still under the wealth and protection of the Kinkaid family name, Laxus always moved with drivers and bodyguards, so he never knew how dangerous and cold the outside world was.“Don’t be stubborn,” the bodyguard warned sternly. He glared at Laxus, and Laxus feared for his life instantly. He was alone on this path, and it was still very early; if he proved stubborn, he could get killed right here and his body dumped without mercy. Laxus was going through so much, but the la

  • Rise Of The Rightful Heir   A New Found Treasure

Luther sat on the dining table enjoying a sumptuous meal at the family mansion where he and Linne had been living in with his father, Darwin, since they got married.Luther already had his day planned out; after his meal, he would visit his game house and spend hours there playing chess with his group of friends, and afterwards, maybe rest by the poolside, and then visit the museum before the end of the day. He pretty much planned to do nothing today other than just having a nice time with himself and a bunch of friends who didn’t mind that he was a Kinkaid.Linne came downstairs shortly, dressed in an expensive floral dress. She saw Luther eating at the dining, his back turned to her, and she raised her nose in disgust. For the life of her, she could not understand why any man would just enjoy waking up every day and practically do nothing. Most days, they had to literally force Luther to go to the office, and Linne did not like that. She liked a man who was always up and doing, and

“…and it is worth billions…”Linne could not get those words out of her head. it was a good thing she stayed back and eavesdropped, because Darwin did not want her to know, just as he did not want her to know about most things that went on in the company, and Luther would never have said a word of it to her.“Bastards,” Linne said, grounding her teeth.Darwin left some minutes ago, and Luther also left almost immediately to only God knows where. He and his father had argued for some more minutes where Darwin was trying to get Luther to come to the office today so that they could join heads together and see what can be done about this new development, but Luther stubbornly objected.“I already have today scheduled for something else,” Luther had told his father.“You know I am doing all this for you. Come to the company and let us talk properly about this; I already asked the lawyer to come around as well. It will just be for a few hours, and you can go about your day from there,” Darw

  • Rise Of The Rightful Heir   Strange Things

Since Laxus was no longer going to work, he spent the entire day thinking about his meeting with Bowman.First of all, the man seemed like he knew much about the Kinkaid family; things that Laxus obviously didn’t know, and now, he was offering a huge amount of money to Laxus to start up something for himself and fight his family. Bowman did not reveal anything else, which bothered Laxus; he only told him to spend some days thinking about his offer.“That offer is too much,” Laxus said to himself. What if he failed? What if Bowman decided that he needed his money back? Laxus would never be able to pay back, and that would make him be at the mercy of Bowman forever. Laxus wasn’t stupid or ignorant. He might not be rich anymore, but he was once in the midst of plenty, and he knew how men like Bowman operated.“Getting away from my family was freedom to me, and there is no way I am going back to being under anyone’s mercy, ever again,” Laxus vowed to himself. In fact, if his family could

  • Rise Of The Rightful Heir   Uncertainty

Abandoning what he had just experienced, Laxus hurried to Nessy. It was getting dark now, and from what Nessy told him, she was still at the store. Laxus knew he shouldn’t be going there, especially considering the fact that Mr. Henry fired him, but he could not get over how scared and frantic Nessy sounded, as though she was in danger. The moment Laxus got to the shop, the sign there was close, which means they had closed for the day. However, Laxus tried to push through the door, but he was stopped by Drake.“What are you doing here?” Drake asked harshly. “You have been fired already, so why are you here?” Drake questioned, facing Laxus menacingly.“What have you done to her?” Laxus asked, breathing hard.He was breathing hard from rushing over to the shop and he was also breathing hard because he was ready to fight Drake if he had hurt Nessy. Laxus did not have any feelings or attachment to Nessy, but he just hated it when people, especially women were being bullied, especially the

Laxus was stunned, speechless, and confused as to what to do. He saw Nessy shaking as her eyes went from the man to Laxus, and her quivering lips released whimpers occasionally.“What…what happened here?” Laxus asked Nessy. He could not see the man’s face, but from the grey in his hairs, it was obvious that he was not exactly a young man. Anyway, Nessy found it difficult to open her mouth, and when she did, no words came out.“Nessy, you have to talk to me. What happened and who is he?” Laxus asked again. He could not possibly think of anything that could have gone wrong, and Nessy looked too innocent to kill a man in cold blood, but then again, looks were very deceiving, but all the same, Laxus could not find himself in this kind of situation. If the cops arrived and met him here, he would be in deeper trouble, because there was no way they would not realize that he was a Kinkaid. It dawned on Laxus that there was no way Nessy would say anything if he did not do anything to make her

Nessy immediately shook her head the moment the thought came; it was totally wrong of her to come to such a conclusion. Besides, her own father also gave her away to a total stranger, and up till this very moment, neither of her parents had made any attempt to find or reach Nessy.“I am sorry you had to go through all that,” Nessy said, and she meant it.She knew exactly what it felt like to be betrayed and hurt by people you loved and cherished, especially family members.“There is no need for you to feel sorry for me,” Laxus said tightly. “I do not regret anything that has happened in the past, because it has helped me become who I am today,” Laxus added.Nessy nodded in agreement. She could tell that the entire situation was still affecting Laxus, whether or not he liked to admit it. One thing that Nessy knew for sure was that if anyone was truly over their past, they would not be angry and hurt when the conversation was brought up.“And I didn’t tell you any of this so that you wo

  • Brunt Of Betrayal

Nessy had never fallen in love before, but she knew that being hurt and betrayed by the people you loved and trusted had to be the worst pain in the entire world.“Yes, we were,” Laxus started. “I loved Linnie so much, Nessy. I thought Linnie loved me, but I was wrong. Laxus was speechless for a minute, not knowing what exactly to do or say. He struggled between telling Nessy the truth and simply finding a convenient lie, because in all honesty, he did not want to talk about the family and past he had left behind.“I can’t tell you, I am sorry,” Laxus eventually said calmly. He began to wonder what Linnie came to Nessy’s apartment for, and why she would be threatening Nessy. They had absolutely nothing binding them together, so why would she be harassing Nessy?“How am I supposed to feel safe when I don’t know what is going on?” Nessy asked, and Laxus understood where she was coming from, but he found it difficult to just tell Nessy everything.“How did she even find out that you live here?” Laxus asked. There were so many thoughts and questions running through his head now, and he wanted answers to most of them.
