Dinner ended and Luther could not be more grateful. It felt as though it was dragging for too long and Luther could not continue to bear the sight of Abby and Laxus together. Also, he was acting too stupidly, and he feared that it would jeopardize things for the company, but unfortunately, he could not even control himself.

“Golden and I will wait to get the food digested and have a few words together before I send for Luther and Laxus,” the man from Zayomi said, rising to his feet.

Everyone also rose; indicating that they were officially done eating.

“He is right,” Mr. Golden suggested. “I usually don’t rush into business right after meals, so I suggest that while we wait for the food to digest before the two businessmen have the opportunity to pitch their proposals, the rest of you should feel comfortable and ensure that you get some digestion as well,” Mr. Golden finished.

With that, he and the Zayomi man slowly and leisurely walked out of the dining room.

Laxus stood in the patio, trying to get enough air and catch his breath as well. He could not wait for all this to be over, because he was already feeling choked.“If I had any idea that it was going to be like this, maybe I would have politely declined her offer,” Laxus thought to himself. He had only been here for an hour and thirty minutes, but he felt like he had been here for eternity, and he could not wait for this to be over.“Or should I just damn all of this and go away?” Laxus continued to ask himself.First of all, he had to go through the trauma of being in the same room with the people who betrayed him, and secondly, he had to deal with Abby’s theatrics. Laxus could not even tell if Abby was doing all that because she was genuinely attracted to him, or because she wanted her father to catch a meaning to it, but whatever the case, Laxus could not continue anymore. He really needed to speak with Abby and correct any impressions that she might be having. His only agreed to h

  • Rise Of The Rightful Heir   A Woman Of Lies

Laxus and Luther entered Mr. Golden’s study room and met Mr. Golden and the man from Zayomi seated as though they were panel of judges. Something about their appearance made both Laxus and Luther doubt themselves, although they tried to act as though it was nothing.“I will just hang around in the house,” Abby said loudly. She had led Laxus and Luther to the study room, and both young men thought that Abby would be present, and somehow, the thought of her being present made both of them feel better. As though Abby sensed how they were feeling, she touched Laxus tenderly and briefly, drawing his attention to her.“You are going to win this, don’t worry about it,” Abby said in a whisper before leaving the study room.Luther saw the gesture, but he did not hear was Abby told Laxus, buthe was downright jealous and angry. Why didn’t Abby bother to say anything to him? Because Luther was certain that whatever Abby said was to motivate Laxus. The more time they spent in Mr. Golden’s mansion,

  • Rise Of The Rightful Heir   Battle Of Presentations

Now Laxus understood why Mr. Golden and the man from Zayomi had that weird look on their faces; they had seen that their proposals were the same.Luther spoke with confidence, but everyone in the study noticed that he was speaking as though he had rehearsed everything line by line. It dawned on Laxus that this was the same proposal that Thaddeus had submitted at the Kinkaid Distillery Company but was rejected by Darwin over and over again, which only meant that Darwin and Luther had stolen the young man’s idea to pitch it as theirs, because if they had reached out to Thaddeus to buy it from him just as Laxus had done, Thaddeus would have told Laxus.Luther and his father had stolen, and worse, Luther presented first, which would now make it seem as though Laxus was the one who stole.Laxus itched to stop Luther’s presentation and bring to the notice of the older men that this was a stolen proposal, but on the other hand, he had no proof. Laxus was smart enough that even though he tru

  • Rise Of The Rightful Heir   The Winner, At Last!

Linnie was becoming quite restless and lonely just sitting in the living room and waiting. It was as though she was waiting for a bomb to drop. It had been more than an hour now since Luther and Laxus went into the study room for their presentations, and Abby also made herself scarce, so it was just Linnie. She had watched a boring show from the TV, dozed off for a second, allowed her mind to wander into diverse territories, and now, she was wishing that she was elsewhere but here. Linnie looked around, and again, she realized the amount of luxury that Abby had grown up in, unlike her. It made Linnie angrier and jealous, and even more so, that Abby had the attention of both men; Luther and Laxus. She was just like a statute that no one even had an interest in, and she had managed to snag Laxus’s attention, but the same Abby had stolen the moment away from her.“I hate her!” Linnie groaned internally, so much so that she wished that something horrible would happen to Abby.Linnie was

  • Rise Of The Rightful Heir   Consequences Of Failure

Linnie and Luther sat at the back of their car as they were being driven back to their matrimonial home, and they were both angry as hell. It was as though they were doing the walk of shame back home, only that in their case, they had the luxury of being driven.Individually, they both painfully and angrily reminisced on the Zayomi man’s announcement, and the moment he had walked up to Laxus like a proud father.“Congratulations, Laxus,” he had said with a handshake. Then Mr. Golden had followed suit, completely ignoring Luther and acting as though he wasn’t the one who extended an invitation to Luther in the first place. “Congratulations, Laxus. This is a well-deserved win, because you are a man with not just a brain, but a focus, and I cannot wait to see what your company will become with this contract,” Mr. Golden had said proudly.Abby had been ecstatic beyond words, and she could not even stay an inch away from Laxus while Luther and Linnie had just stood there like zombies, una

  • Rise Of The Rightful Heir   Growing Feelings

Laxus was not expecting a visitation from Bowman that Sunday evening, but he was very pleased and relieved that Bowman thought it wise to pay him a visit, at least. It would take his mind off things and equally get to talk to Bowman face to face; Laxus always preferred it to phone conversations.“This is not usually the face of someone who has won something big, Laxus,” Bowman observed as he sipped his glass of brandy that Laxus has presented to him.“It is because I just don’t feel happy, no matter how hard I try,” Laxus responded.Bowman looked at Laxus and wondered why he wasn’t particularly happy. This was one of the biggest contracts that any company, especially one that was just beginning would be lucky to have, so he could not understand why Laxus was not jumping for joy or even making a press statement about it. Laxus had already explained all that happened at the lunch meeting; Luther’s presence, and Bowman was certain as hell that it was Darwin who pushed Luther into attendi

  • Rise Of The Rightful Heir   First Day

Linnie woke up as the happiest woman that morning; it was her first day of starting her job at the Kinkaid Distillery Company, sharing the same rank with Luther Kinkaid. Her dream had finally come true! She could not believe that she allowed herself to be unhappy when Luther lost the pitch to Laxus, but now, she saw that his loss had only given her the biggest win of her life.“I am going to show Darwin that I am more capable than Luther in every way possible,” Linnie said as she got dressed in her bedroom. She hadn’t seen Luther for the rest of the weekend, and frankly, she could care less. Linnie was simply living in her own bubble and ready to take her place in the company. She was wearing one of the best suits that she had bought a long time ago in anticipation of eventually getting to work.“People who never quit never lose,” Linnie told herself proudly. After all the insults, embarrassments and humiliations she got from Darwin and the multiple attempts she made just to prove her

Laxus arrived at work and went about his regular company tour as usual with Bridget following behind, but Laxus deliberately did not go towards the hamburger store, and he also refused to talk about it.After that, he went right back to his office, and Bridget also went in with him to inform him about his schedules for the day.“Bridget, I need you to set a reminder regarding a meeting with the Zayomi company for mid-noon today. We would be having the meeting via a Google meeting, being that it is the first time,” Laxus informed her. After he was declared the winner, a few hours later, even though it was on a Saturday, he had received a congratulatory message from the Zayomi company and also an offer for a meeting on Monday to talk more about the contract and how it would be implemented.Bridget’s eyes popped open in awe. “The Zayomi company?” Bridget could not help but ask.“Yes,” Laxus answered, looking at Bridget and seeing the raw and pure awe in her eyes. “You know the company?”

“You could have gotten yourself killed, Dragon! Why don’t you ever listen to me?” Bowman scolded Dragon angrily as they sat at the back of Bowman’s car, returning to his mansion.Aside from his obvious anger, Bowman sounded frightened, and for the first time, Dragon felt the man’s tough and fierce love towards him, and it almost melted Dragon’s heart. It was good to know that Bowman felt the same way he felt about him.“I always listen to you,” Dragon said, groaning in pain. His entire body hurt from wrestling with Darwin and the parts where Darwin’s vengeful punches hit him hurt like hell, but he was more than grateful that he wasn’t dead instead.“Darwin could have killed you in a heartbeat and you know it,” Bowman continued.“Well then, let’s be thankful of small miracles like whatever he saw on his damn phone that made him to lose focus for a second,” Dragon said.He sounded nonchalant about what just happened, but deep down, he was shaky and relieved at the same time. • An Escape, Finally

With shaky fingers, Linnie typed a quick message to Darwin and hoped that it would be enough distraction. She could not think of something else that would work effectively in a moment like this.“My men should have killed you when you tried to save Barrister Dickson from my hands, but they were just so incompetent. I am glad that I get to do it myself, and this time around, with a good reason to back it up,” Darwin said as he pointed the gun towards the intruder.Linnie still couldn’t see his face, which she desperately wanted to, because she wanted to see if he was afraid of dying.“Whatever could be a good reason to become a murderer?” The intruder asked. If he was scared and worried for his life, he was perfect at masking it, because he sounded collected and calm, and Linnie wondered how he could have achieved that, being that she was nervous to death from her hiding place.Aside from the fact that she feared that if she got out of this alive, she might have a permanently damaged k

Unable to express her shock and fear by gasping, Linnie’s mouth fell open.Darwin had a gun with him and she doubted that the other man knew this! She had never seen Darwin with a gun before. Heck, she had never even imagined that he was a gun man. Granted, everyone who knew Darwin knew that he was a dangerous man, but a gun? The way he kept the gun between his belt and waist, it was obvious that he was not an amateur. It then dawned on Linnie that the situation was more dire and dangerous than she had thought it was. Now, Linnie was even more afraid for the intruder’s life than she was for herself. At least, Darwin had no idea that she was in his office as well; neither of the men knew that there was a third party, and if she was lucky, none of them would bother themselves with coming around Darwin’s desk. The thought of Darwin shooting and killing someone in her very presence scared the shit out of Linnie, and she realized that she was not even as strong-hearted and cruel as she had

We meet again, Darwin.”Linnie heard the man say, and even though she could not see him, he did not sound anything remotely resembling someone who was afraid, even though he was the intruder.Linnie wasn’t that surprised, because she already knew that assassins and men that did other people’s dirty works did not live in fear or faced obstacles with trembling. They might get scared at a point, but somehow, they had trained themselves never to display any form of fear, especially in situations like this. The only person who was dying of fear was Linnie herself. She could hear her heart thumping loudly and slamming hard against her ribs, and she worried that with the way her heart was beating, Darwin and the intruder would hear. She was worried that the sound of her beating heart which she was hearing in her ears would attract their attention.Linnie tried to steady her racing heart and put her mind to rest, but she could not. She was right in the face of danger, and she had no idea what

  • Room For Three

Dragon entered Darwin’s office and met it quiet and calm as expected; it was late by the way, but something made him wary. He had hoped that he would have some difficulty getting the door to open, but then again, the door had been totally unlocked. He knew that Darwin was not a clumsy man who would carelessly leave his office door open, especially considering the fact that he was hiding something. But then again, he never would have thought that Dragon would maneuver his security and enter his office at night, so it might also be possible that he felt safe enough not to lock his office door properly. Now that he had successfully gained entry into Darwin’s office, Dragon took his cell phone and dialed Bowman’s number.Bowman picked almost immediately, as though he had been waiting for Dragon’s call. Anyway, Dragon suspected that Bowman did not stick to the instruction of resting. Rather, he stayed awake and vigilant, waiting to hear from Dragon.“I have been able to get access into hi

  • Intrusion

Linnie called Darwin and waiting for him to pick up his call. She was calling because she wanted to make sure that she kept records with Darwin. Being the kind of man that he was, Linnie knew without a doubt that if there was a tiny chance that this could swing in her favor, by whichever means, then she would have to let him know what was going on.Darwin picked on the third ring.“What do you want?” He asked grudgingly without waiting for Linnie to say a word after the call connected.“It’s Luther,” Linnie reported. Well, if he wanted to continue being a rude asshole, then she might as well go right to the point. Linnie had no intentions of lingering on the call with him by the way.“What about him? Is he well?” Darwin asked, his voice softening a bit. It was obvious that he cared only about his son, which shouldn’t even come as a surprise to Linnie in the first place.“I think he is seeing Abby Golden,” Linnie reported firmly.“What makes you think that?” Darwin asked impatiently.

  • Wrong Answers

Linnie was fuming after Luther picked up Abby’s call and left their home. She could not believe the level of audacity and disrespect from him, and it was obvious that he did not care about the consequences of such actions. Linnie had been upset, especially with what happened between them, but she had seen it as an opportunity to get what she wanted. If Luther was cheating on her with Abby Golden, that would be grounds for a favorable divorce for Linnie, because she would leave the sham of a marriage with Luther’s share of the Kinkaid inheritance, and she would not have to worry about being poor and wretched for the rest of her life.More, she would not have to deal with Luther or his sick father, Darwin, and she would be free to fight for Laxus’s love, regardless of the fact that he was now married. So, Linnie had called Detective George and had asked him to trail Luther and keep an eye on him, and of course, bring back the one news that Linnie wanted to hear so badly. She hated Abby

  • Any Kind Of Favor

Luther would never allow anything to prevent him from taking Abby’s call, including her stare, so in less than an hour, Luther was driving to see Abby. He was more than ecstatic and hopeful and he could barely wait to get to Abby. At this point, Luther did not care whether or not his repercussions would cause him his inheritance as long as he got what he wanted from Abby.As soon as Luther got to the open restaurant, he hurried into the restaurant, seeking Abby’s table. It was an expensive restaurant, no doubt, but it was also open, so at the end of the day, it couldn’t be termed that they met at a private place, although that was what Luther would have preferred.“Thank you for coming,” Abby said the moment Luther got to her and sat down.“No, Abby, I should be the one thanking you for calling and asking to see me,” Luther said, trying so hard not to sound overly excited. As he looked at Abby, he felt his heart crack. She did not look very happy, and he knew that Laxus’s marriage to
