“Laxus, you were here last night?” Mr. Henry asked, surprised.

Laxus could feel his knees getting weak and giving way, but he had to hold himself from falling. His insides were already shaking profusely. Laxus hadn’t expected Drake to say anything, or maybe he didn’t remember that he almost got into an altercation last night with Drale; of course, Drake would say something.

Anything to put Laxus away for good.

“Yes,” Drake answered when Laxus was hesitating. “He rushed in here as though he would fight with me, but when he didn’t find Nessy here, because I told him that she was off, he tried calling her, and then he just dashed off,” Drake explained explicitly.

Laxus wished that he could put a cloth over Drake’s mouth to prevent him from talking, but it was already too late. If he had checked his phone after the distress call from Nessy, he would have seen her text message, and he would not have come to the restaurant first, and now, aside from the other shocked eyes, Laxus could feel

“You didn’t see this staff in question at all throughout the night last night?” The detective queried, looking intently and deeply into Laxus’s eyes, as though he was looking to detect a lie in his eyes.Laxus knew that now that he was being suspected, he could not afford to look away. If he did, it would give the detective the chance to rope him in, because somehow, Laxus felt that the detective was trying to hold him responsible for anything at all. Laxus had this feeling that the detective was holding something against him, or maybe the man did not just like him. Laxus could not tell, but the feeling was strong and it was there and it was unsettling.“No, I did not see her at all,” Laxus lied again. But even as Laxus lied, his heart beat faster, because it was not certain that Nessy was missing. Maybe she went over to a friend’s apartment last night, or even returned to her parents, and if either of those options were the case, it meant that Nessy would be found and equally interr

  • Rise Of The Rightful Heir   Under Arrest

The moment Detective George requested to have Laxus’s phone, Laxus thought that he was going to pass out. There was no way the detective would see what Nessy texted him that he would not immediately rope Laxus in. With the way the detective had been going, he would be more than glad to get Laxus arrested, and when that happened, Laxus would have no one to bail him him.“Laxus, please give the detective your phone,” Mr. Henry said.He sounded somewhat worried about Laxus, and also disappointed, but instead of obeying what he had been told, Laxus stood still and unmoving. All eyes were on him.“Let me have your phone!” Detective George was getting impatient. “Do you know how grievous it is to withhold any information that might be helpful to an officer?” He asked, charging at Laxus.Laxus could not wrap his head around why the detective was so hell-bent on antagonizing him, especially as Laxus was certain that he had never seen the man before, but he knew that if Detective George saw t

  • Rise Of The Rightful Heir   Finish Things Up

For the first time ever since Linnie officially became a part of the Kinkaid family by marrying Luther, Darwin sat in his office and conversed with Linnie while they waited for Luther and the fourth person to join them.“Why is Luther taking so much time for heaven’s sake?” Darwin asked, his patience gradually running out.He was actually getting fed up of his son being so reluctant and nonchalant about the wealth that he wanted them to accumulate for as long as they could. Luther was smart and intelligent, but when it came to the affairs and decisions of the company, he was too relaxed for Darwin’s liking. The fact that he did whatever he wanted to do when it liked to do it aggravated Darwin.“He should be here soon,” Linnie said even though she wasn’t sure of that herself. “According to him, the game he had to watch could not be missed,” Linnie asked with a twist of her lips.Darwin would definitely not crucify for openly showing her frustration with having to deal with Luther, beca

  • Rise Of The Rightful Heir   The Unknown Son

Laxus stayed in cell, boiling with anger and rage. He could not believe that a man like him was in cell. This was the first time that Laxus was ever being in the cell, and the worst part was that it was based on a false accusation. He never assaulted or stole from Linnie.“Can I see anyone?” Laxus asked the cop who came to speak with an inmate in the other cell. “You cannot just keep me holed up here without my lawyer!” Laxus began to raise his voice in frustration when he was ignored. He belonged to a powerful and influential family in the country, and it was just wrong that he was being treated like a common criminal. Even thought Laxus had left home and never looked back, he still should not be treated this way, especially when it was even on wrong accusations. The cop left without saying a word and Laxus felt as though he could lift up the bars in the cell and set himself free from it. Laxus began to think about his life and predicament. He should have known that showing up in his

  • Rise Of The Rightful Heir   A Setup

Detective George stared at Laxus and remembered the picture of him that Darwin had shown him. The picture hadn’t done Laxus any justice, because Detective George realized that Laxus was more good looking than that picture. Again, he noticed the distinct features that Laxus had that were missing in Luther, like the color of their eyes, and hairs, and even their noses. But still, he could not stop wondering why Darwin would want to “punish” his own son, but whatever the case may be, he would simply do his job and get his raise that was long due.“I have a right to demand a lawyer before granting an interrogation,” Laxus told the detective. Detective George nodded; damn, Laxus was good. The detective had known that Laxus was good even though he had fidgeted at first, making him suspicious, but then again, he was speaking to a Kinkaid, so he did not expect Laxus to be anything less than brilliant even though he was no longer associating himself with the Kinkaid family.“Yes, you do, but

  • Rise Of The Rightful Heir   Twice Bitten

Laxus never imagined in his wildest dream that he would be spending the night in a cell, but as he laid his head on his bed in his cell room, he pondered about his life.Whether or not he was innocent, having a criminal or jail record would hinder him from getting a job. He wasn’t even sure that Mr. Henry would want to still keep him hired after all that had happened.“What am I going to do?” Laxus thought deeply as he asked himself. The words of his father, “You will have to pay for damages, Laxus, and no one will be able to save you,” just kept ringing in Laxus’s head, and he realized dreadfully that Darwin was right. Laxus could not think of anyone that he could possibly call to get him out of here. After his father left, he had been taken back into the cell without further interrogation, and now, it was almost midnight.Tears flowed down Laxus’s cheeks in regret. What Laxus was being regretful for, he could not tell. Maybe he should not have walked out on his family. Maybe he shou

“What did you just say?” Laxus turned and asked Linnie. She had a smirk on her face that Laxus wished he could wipe off. The words that came out of Linnie’s mouth was shocking, and at the same time, could put him away forever, even though he might already be in that situation.“I thought you didn’t want to speak to me,” Linnie said sarcastically. “I still don’t want to speak with you, Linnie,” Laxus said firmly and he meant it. Looking at Linnie now and recalling that beautiful, young, and innocent girl who had gracefully returned his belongings and he had fallen for at first sight, he wondered what happened to her, because all Laxus could see in front of him was an evil woman draped in expensive silk clothes.“Even with this information that is on the tip of my tongue?” Linnie teased.Laxus ground his teeth in annoyance, and he wondered why he could not stay completely away from his family. The reason he decided to go very far away from them was because he did not want to have anyt

Bowman had appreciated the silence, because it gave him time to think deeply, and he had thought that Dragon, who understood him more than anyone else, was giving him the space to do just that, but Bowman was wrong, and he almost groaned out loud when he heard Dragon speak. It was night, which was the perfect time to have whatever meeting he wanted to have with Darwin.“And I haven’t changed that,” Bowman simply said, knowing that if he did not respond to Dragon, he might keep pushing.Sometimes, Dragon could be a real pain in the butt that Bowman could not get rid of.“So we are going in there to kill him?” Dragon asked, a tinge of excitement in his voice.Bowma

  • Firm Declaration

Linnie had stayed locked up in her room since the doctor broke the news to not just her, but Darwin and Luther. She could still recall the look of excitement and relief on Luther’s face and the look of anger and disappointment on Darwin’s face. Linnie had never felt so humiliated and embarrassed in her entire existence before. In her defense, she had demanded for another test.Maybe Luther might have tried to swing the result, especially being the fact that he did not want Linnie to get pregnant, this was the family hospital and as such, the family doctor might lightly do whatever Luther asked him to do, and the test appointment was pre-booked before today, so Linnie had vehemently demanded for another impromptu test to be carried out on her right there and then; she knew exactly the way she was feeling.Darwin had angrily accepted, and Linnie had selected another random doctor in the hospital and of course, a different laboratory, and they all stayed right there and then so that she

Laxus was still holding the letter from the court, but he was burning with rage.“Calm down, Laxus,” Bowman said gently, trying to calm Laxus down.“How can you ask me to calm down? The lies they published on the blogs about me is bad enough, but this is just hell and it is going to ruin things!” Laxus said, still fuming and pacing while Bowman just sat still and watched Laxus vent.“You haven’t even touched your drink or sit down since you got here,” Bowman said.He was infuriated at how the whole thing turned out. He was enraged that Darwin was clearly gaining the upper hand. He had suspected that Darwin was the one who had sent someone to go after Laxus; who else would anyway? He just didn’t state his suspicions to Laxus because he wasn’t exactly sure yet, and Laxus was still blindly in the d

  • After The Elevating News...

Nessy, as usual, lingered after everyone had closed for the night. She used the excuse of cleaning up and arranging things just to stay longer than necessary, urging the other waitresses to leave.Nessy was turning over the tables when Mr. Henry walked up to her, ready to leave.“Nessy, you are always working so hard and diligently too,” he commended.Nessy smiled, because she knew that she was putting in all her efforts into ensuring that she did the best that she could. It was not just because she had no place to lay her head at night or because she was worried about being jobless and penniless that made her work so hard, no. Nessy was naturally a diligent and hardworking person, even when she lived with her parents and served Gary. “I do my best,” Nessy said humbly.“I have been watching you since I employed you. When you were waiting tables with the other waitresses, you were exceptional at what you did and how you attended to the customers, and when things started to go badly fo

  • Audacity At Its Peak

Laxus saw the look in the detective’s eyes and he decided that he was not going to condone any insolence or disrespect from him. When he worked at Mr. Henry’s restaurant was different from now. Detective George had the nerve to bully him at that time because Laxus had no money, power, and connection, but that was not the same anymore, which just happened to how the system worked, even though Laxus hated it.It was just rotten that people who were poor and helpless got treated like trash by the law, but the wealthy and famous could easily hide their evildoings and get away with breaking the law.“You don’t have an appointment,” Laxus said, his jaw tight with anger.“Come on, Laxus, I am a detective, and as such, I don’t need a permission or a bloody appointment to see anyone,” Detective George said with a coy grin playing on his lips.“I am Mr. Laxus, Detective George, and you will either accord me that respect or I will have my team of security guards throw you out.
