The proud smile that Darwin gave to Luther was unmistakable, making Linnie almost burst in annoyance. She wished in that moment that she was the one who had come up with that brilliant idea and not Luther.

“Now that Linnie has gone to spoil things for us,” Luther continued. It just felt good to always drag Linnie’s failure into the discussion, because not only would it rile her up, it would prevent her from getting that soft spot she had been desperately trying to obtain from his father.

The words that he and Linnie exchanged that morning at the house was still nagging at him. Luther was not keen about the Kinkaid company; he had other desires, and as long as he continued to enjoy the benefits of being a Kinkaid son, and also, the returns from the company. However, he had not been awarded that luxury, because his father continued to insist that he become a part of the company.

“I did not spoil anything for us!” Linnie jumped in, desperate to defend herself, and Luther smiled callously

There was certainly no way anyone could be this generous without asking for anything in return. Laxus was a stranger to Bowman, and even though he knew that Laxus was a Kinkaid, he was still a stranger, and as such, an impossible notion for him to be so interested in Laxus’s wellbeing all for nothing. Linnie was having trouble sleeping as she paced about her room in her silky expensive robe.She and Luther had separate bedrooms right from the beginning of their marriage, and she could literally count the number of times they have had sex.“How am I supposed to get pregnant?” Linnie would often ask herself whenever she was being reminded that she should have birthed a Kinkaid child for Luther. In truth, Linnie hadn’t put in extra effort to get Luther to bed her, because she was more focused on getting herself into the Kinkaid company than having a baby. If she had a baby, they would ensure that she stayed indoors and nurtured the child, but if Linnie managed to get a seat in the company, she would be able to secure a future for herself.Being Luther’s wife alone was not enough.Linnie thought about her life before she met Laxus Kinkaid, and she shook her head furiously.“I am never going back there,” Linnie told herself firmly, and she meant it.Darwin could embarrass and humiliate

    Nessy immediately shook her head the moment the thought came; it was totally wrong of her to come to such a conclusion. Besides, her own father also gave her away to a total stranger, and up till this very moment, neither of her parents had made any attempt to find or reach Nessy.“I am sorry you had to go through all that,” Nessy said, and she meant it.She knew exactly what it felt like to be betrayed and hurt by people you loved and cherished, especially family members.“There is no need for you to feel sorry for me,” Laxus said tightly. “I do not regret anything that has happened in the past, because it has helped me become who I am today,” Laxus added.Nessy nodded in agreement. She could tell that the entire situation was still affecting Laxus, whether or not he liked to admit it. One thing that Nessy knew for sure was that if anyone was truly over their past, they would not be angry and hurt when the conversation was brought up.“And I didn’t tell you any of this so that you wo

I thought Linnie loved me, but I was wrong. The moment an offer to marry my brother instead and enjoy the wealth and fame that came with being a Kinkaid was dangled in front of her, Linnie grabbed it,” Laxus explained.“She chose your brother over you?” Nessy asked;

He struggled between telling Nessy the truth and simply finding a convenient lie, because in all honesty, he did not want to talk about the family and past he had left behind.“I can’t tell you, I am sorry,” Laxus eventually said calmly. He began to wonder what Linnie came to Nessy’s apartment for, and why she would be threatening Nessy. They had absolutely nothing binding them together, so why would she be harassing Nessy?“How am I supposed to feel safe when I don’t know what is going on?” Nessy asked, and Laxus understood where she was coming from, but he found it difficult to just tell Nessy everything.“How did she even find out that you live here?” Laxus asked.There were so many thoughts and questions running through his head now, and he wanted answers to most of them. He would have confronted Linnie, but Laxus had sworn never to have anything to do with her.“You tell me,” Nessy said, crossing her hands
