“What?” Linnie asked, confused and surprised at the same time. She was not sure that she heard Luther correctly.

“Are you deaf or something?” Luther asked harshly, his eyes blazing hot with anger.

Even though where he stood was a little dark because it was late and Linnie’s bedroom light did not illuminate brightly in that area, she could see and feel his anger and irritation in the core of her bones.

“I am not deaf, Luther, but I am wondering if you are drunk,” Linnie said, standing confidently and facing Luther as he slowly entered her room.

They had been married long enough now, but Linnie could count the number of times that Luther had entered into her room, as compared to the times that she had entered his.

“Maybe getting drunk would have been a better idea, now that you have mentioned it,” Luther spat. “At least, being drunk would make me less aware of being with a woman like you,” Luther added spitefully.
