Chapter 8: The Disagreement

What!?

Smith stared at her with a surprised expression, taken aback by her action. She hugged him with tears rolling down from her eyes. His shoulder was drained with her tears but he didn't mind it. He couldn't hide the shock after she hugged him.

Why wouldn't he be surprised? This was the first time he'd hugged her apart from the aisle of their wedding where they pretended to love each other.

He breathed in as her fragrance hit her nose. He made use of the opportunity and hugged her back even though he was somehow reluctant.

She is his wife, right? He asked himself as he began to feel guilty for hugging her back in such a state. He felt like he was taking advantage of her.

He stared at her and stroked her hair for a while until she sniffed back a bead of tears and stepped backward.

Though the hug wasn't long, it felt so real and good that he wish she didn't stop hugging him.

"What's wrong?" He managed to ask after stretching out a white handkerchief to her.

"Thanks," she muttered, collected the handkerchief from him, and cleaned the tears on her face.

"What happened to you?" He asked in a low tone as he walked closer to her.

Georgia raised her head and looked up for a while unaware of what to tell him.

How could she explain to him that she was asked to abort his unborn baby? Though she doesn't love him, she can't afford to shed the blood of an unborn child.

Smith noticed the look on her face but he didn't understand any bit of it. All he could see on her face was sadness and depression.

It seems something is bothering her.

"Don't worry about me. I'll be fine," she muttered with a sigh as she discarded the handkerchief into a trash bin.

He summoned and proceed further to ask. "Are you sure? You don't look good to me,"

She yelled out frustratingly. "I said I'm fine. You don't need to interfere in my life,"

He nodded his head gently with a solemn look and stepped aside a bit. She stared at him and shook her head with a sigh.

She knows he's just worried about her and she shouldn't have hurt his feelings but she thinks that's the best thing to do about her.

"I'm sorry for yelling at you," she muttered and climbed on the bed.

Did she just apologize? Not only was he surprised by her apology, but he was also shocked by her recent behavior.

Not only did she ask him to sleep on the king-sized bed yesterday, but she also hugged him today. He couldn't help but wonder what was wrong with her.

He believed that she was only sad or depressed that's why she seems to be close to him recently. He didn't want to keep his hope high that she was beginning to reciprocate his feelings.

But what could have made her sad? This question rang in his mind.

He was brought out of his thoughts by the ringing tone of Georgia's phone. He watched as she stared at the called ID and reluctantly picked it up.

"What is it, mum?" She asked in a cold and hostile tone.

"Come to the house right now!"

"But mother…" her mother interrupted her and said curtly.

"Don't make me angry at you. Come right now! Me and your dad want to have a word with you,"

Smith who was standing at a corner couldn't help but hear the fierce voice of Olivia which resounded faintly in his ears because of the distance.

Georgia shook her head with a sigh and simply said. "Fine, I'll be there with you soon,"

She dropped her phone on the comfy bed and let out an exasperated sigh. She knows why her parents want to see her.

They want to see her because of the issue she had with her grandma. Though she doesn't want to go, she knows she didn't have a choice and she can't hide forever.

She staggered back to her feet with a fainted look, glanced at Smith, and walked out of the room.

Smith shook his head with a sigh as he stared at her departing figure. He hopes she will heal from whatever is bothering her. He thought as he returned to the bed.

He has been sleeping on the bed since she once allowed him. He climbed on the bed and placed his head on the soft pillow.

He rolled countlessly on the bed as he couldn't catch a sleep. He stood up from the bed and walked out of the house.

He decided to spend some time outside the house in the garden. A few minutes after staying in the garden, he stood up from the chair and left the garden.

He decided to follow his instincts and take a stroll to his wife's parents and his in-laws' house.

Her parents have a small house even though it wasn't in the family's beautiful Villa.

Georgia knocked at the door and the door pulled open revealing her mother like she'd been expecting her earlier. Her mother, Olivia, dragged her into a room and slammed the door shut with a loud bang. She forgot to lock the room.

"What is it, mum?" She asked in a cold tone, uninterested in whatever her mother had to say.

"What is the meaning of what happened over there the other time?" Olivia asked in a cold and dominant voice.

She shook her head with a sigh and muttered in a low tone. "I'm sorry Mum,"

"This is not the time to beg me. You've to tell me the reason why you'd to become pregnant for Smith,"

"Why Smith of all people?" Her mother asked in an angry tone.

She's so angry and disappointed in Georgia. She was highly praised for being pregnant with her good-for-nothing contract husband she was planning to replace.

It's a slap on the face that her daughter was married to a good-for-nothing live-in son-in-law, it's more slap on the face that she's pregnant for Smith.

"I never wanted it to happen. It was a mistake,"

"Fine. We've heard it's a mistake, what do you want to do about it?" Her father, Joseph, for the first time chirped in.

"I can't possibly do anything about it. I'll just leave his baby inside of me," she said and rubbed her hand on her stomach.

Her mother's eyes fumed with anger and she flared up. "What are you saying, Georgia?"

"How dare you say such a thing, huh? You've to abort this child, Georgia," her mother said, and she stared at her mother in shock.

"What! You're also in support of Grandma's opinion?" She asked, and her mother scoffed.

"Of course, I'm in support of whatever she wants. You'll have to abort this pregnancy," her mother said indifferently, her voice cold and hostile.

She meant every single of her words.

Her heart shook with sadness as she listened to her mother's heartbreaking words. Her mother is ordering her to abort Smith's unborn child just to please her grandma, Madam Kate.

"Your mother is right," Joseph said.

"Nothing both of you or anyone would say that would change my mind," she said firmly.

"Why are you so keen on tarnishing the image of the Rodriguez family?" Her mother didn't find her pain and sadness.

"Do you mean I'm tarnishing the image of the family by keeping his Smith unborn child?" She asked heartbreakingly.

"Yes, it is," her mother replied sternly.

"That's why you'll have to abort Smith's unborn child inside of you. Your grandma is angry and that's the only way you can do to make her forgive you,"

She swallowed hard and struggled to say.

"If keeping Smith unborn inside fighting against the whole family and tarnishing the image of the family then I don't care,"

Olivia stared at her daughter in shock, taken aback by her words. Her daughter was talking back to her because of her so-called husband, Smith.

She's going to kill him if she puts her hand on her hand. Why can't her daughter understand? She needs to know she doesn't have a choice. Madam Kate isn't in support of her pregnancy, and she's to be the laughingstock of the town.

She clenched her fist with an angry look on her face and said. "This is not your own choice to make. You've to abide by your grandma's words and abort Smith's unborn child inside you,"

"Mum…" Georgia suddenly stopped as a familiar masculine loud and dominant voice interrupted her.

"Abort whose child!?"

They turned their gazes to the door and their eyes widened in shock at the person standing before them in front of the door entrance with an angry look on his face.
