The recent announcement didn't take much of a time to spread like wildfire throughout the whole of Dominican. Not only that did spread, but the news as regards the nomination of a new chairman.

As such all companies, corporations, groups, were willing to take part in the project. Three billion  dollars! That was really no child's play for anyone.

Another factor of surprise was the nomination of the chairman, with just the name Mr. B. What chairman bears such name, many had asked themselves.

Thinking of it, the man is so generous to have bought the whole of the Emerald group. Every single person knew that the Emerald was not like and cost billions of billions.

The new chairman must really be a god to have bought such a huge company.

Nevertheless, some were willing to marry their daughter over to him just to get a collaboration.

Mrs Reid suddenly gave herself a reason why the Walker's project was terminated. Perhaps the new chairman was reshuffling things and since he had no earlier acquaintances with them personally, he threw them out.

Still, she batted an eye for another, that could fill the space of a great son in law, instead of Wendell, who's company's shares have been cut in half.

However, one thing was still strange. Weldell's torture also spread, his father and everyone who heard about him wondered if the chairman was so cruel to have instigated such, but they ended up blaming Wendell in the long run, since they needed an acquaintance.

Who knows, a spy might feed the chairman back, if he's blamed.

Mrs Reid had reached cloud 9 the moment the news about the megaproject reached her. It was a good opportunity to grab some fame for the Reid's group, she thought to herself.

That same day, she called for a meeting at the company; every single member of the family is expected to be there.

In the evening, together with Brenda, Derek tagged along, since he knew what the agenda of the meeting was all about, he intended to lift Brenda's personality among the greedy family members.

Upon their entry into the company, Morphie, Brenda's brother apprehended him and mockingly said. "Do you also call yourself a member of this family? Why not leave my sister? You piece of shit! At least you got no parents' blessing, you abducted my sister!"

With an indifferent expression on Brenda's face, she stood in between Morphie and Derek. "Leave him alone Morphie, he's my husband now at least be considerate."

"Husband you say! Little sister, the earlier those like eyes of yours open, the better. He's your husband, yet he's good for nothing. No skill, no job!"

When the insults got too unbearable for Brenda, she pulled Derek by the hand, and hurried off. "Let's go!"

Morphie squinted his brow with a mocking smirk, anticipating the heck of embarrassment from the remaining members of the family.

Brenda and Derek found themselves a seat in the meeting room, a little distant from other family members. At the rear end was Mrs. Reid, and right beside her was seated Mr Reid, and opposite him, Morphie found a seat.

He had this straight look, that made him more like a moron or someone under a bewitching spell.

Mrs Reid had always been the one with the domineering countenance while Mr. Reid merely spoke a word, anything she said can never be countered even by her husband.

When she sighted Derek in the meeting room, she blasted him mockingly too. "Shameless moron, you also want to be a partaker of my family right?"

Without going further, she went quiet. In a short while, Mrs Reid, raised her voice with excitement as she made an entrance and the meeting was officially opened.

"It's time to commence, the meeting to the success of the Reid group. For many years, we've never gotten a chance to see to the top of the pyramid in the social level in the whole of Dominican but this is the time, its at our fingertips."

Within Derek, he had his teeth tightened as he remembered all of those things Gage told him, as such, he despised Mrs. Reid the most.

How will you make it to the top when you never worked for it? Derek yelled inwardly.

She continued loudly. "This time around, the Emerald group has announced a megaproject of three billion dollars. If anyone can tender a project from it, it will bring great and lucrative benefits."

"More so, it's an opportunity for us to build a collaboration with the Emerald group, the new chairman could at least recognize us."

"If we could successfully collaborate with the chairman, and leave a good impression on him, we would definitely become one of the great and powerful."

Different from Mrs Reid's enthusiasm, all others felt indifferent and unpassionate.

Everyone went silent.

Morphie, Brenda, and even Mr Reid were aware It was never the first time they were trying to collaborate with the Emerald. Right from time, their request had always been declined. The Emerald, never batted an eye at the Reid's. What makes it different from this era?

Annoyed by the silence, Mrs Reid voiced. "Morphie, Brenda and even you Charles," she pointed at Mr. Reid.

"Are you all dumb? Isn't there anyone of you who could muster the courage to make us a name up there?"

She gritted her teeth, and growled further. "Look, here all of you, anyone who can get the deal would be made the director of the Reid's group."

The only person who had his jaw drop low was Morphie. Never had a director been appointed, Mrs Reid's had always controlled and guarded the company with an iron fist. Therefore she had thought it not important to have a director.

A director holds on to so much power that's allocated to just the future successor of the company.

Brenda didn't mind being surprised, neither did Mr Reid either.

Now that she included that reward, she had hoped that she would find someone who is willing to go for it considering the mouth watering reward.

Although the reward seemed so attractive, it wasn't an easy task to accomplish. It was just like climbing Mount Everest in the space of an hour.

Even Mrs Reid herself could not fulfill such a task, because she would never be given an audience not to talk of a collaboration.

Once again, everywhere was silent, no one dared take the job.

In fury, Mrs Reid hit the table and said. "Are you all dumb? Even after setting such a big reward, none of you is willing to go for it?"

She pointed towards Morphie and said. "You Morphie, I give you the mandate to carry out this job for the Reid's."

Morphie let out a loser's laughter and said. "Mom, how is that possible? If the Walker's could be kicked out and rejected by the Emeralds, how about we who are just lower than they are?"

Mrs Reid hit the table once again and said. "You even deny yourself without trying! How much worse could you be than the piece of this we have seated amongst us!"

Derek knew he was the one that hurtful word was directed at, but he was silent still.

Truthfully within herself, she had no confidence about this, but she wanted to at least push the company to the top of the social pyramid.

She had thought Morphie would accept the challenge as the older son, but she was just too wrong, he had rejected it to her face.

Morphie felt bad about turning down the offer too, but there was little or nothing he could do about it, he was never ready to soil his pride.

At this point, Mrs Reid turned towards the others and yelled. "How about you Brenda, or you Charles at least some people are useless for nothing already, there's no need mentioning them, so about both of you?"

At this point, Derek nudged his wife, whispered into her hearing to go for it, but she blatantly refused. "Hey I know you can do it, why not give it a try?"

"No, no, Derek, don't even start. The Emerald is a no go area for anyone. What if I fail?" She had these creases of seriousness lined across her brows.

"Just give it a try will you? Please!" He pleaded

After a short while of persuasion, she stomped to her feet and voiced. "I will go."
