Hello, readers! First of all, I wanted to thank everyone who's reading August's story. This will not only focus on him rising to the top but on the progress and struggles he would need to face before that (and, of course, the revenge! The beloved revenge~). I hope everyone will enjoy reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it. The schedule of my update would be every 8:00 PM, GMT +8. I would write two chapters a day sometimes, depending on my schedule availability. If it's okay, I would like to ask for feedback about the story in the comments or the review section. It will help me to improve this story (and other stories) in the long run. ^0^ Again, thank you so much for reading this story! You can also follow me for more stories! Have a good day or night, everyone~! - Star
“Is that all? Is that what you can do?!” Maxine shouted as his pace started to get slow. He had been running for almost an hour, and he couldn’t even feel his feet anymore nor breathe properly. It also looked like he had been bathed in sweat. August believed he had enough stamina for running, but with Maxine as his trainer, it felt like all his energy had gone down the drain. “Faster!” Maxine exclaimed as she blew the whistle, making August run again in a manner where he should raise his knees higher— making everything unbearable for him. “I said faster! Knees higher!” August didn’t know he was at his limit if Maxine hadn't pushed him outside his comfort zone. He wasn’t kidding when he said he wouldn’t be surprised if he fainted on the spot. “Are you sure that this is training?! Not a way of killing me—” He wasn’t able to finish his sentence when Maxine blew the whistle again to the point that it almost destroyed his eardrum. “Ugh!” “Stop complaining. Focus on your goals, an
“WHY IS it better, master?” Maxine asked in curiosity as she placed the tumbler on the white table between them.Maxine knew that she shouldn’t ask for more. The more that she asks for more questions, the more that Charles would reach his limit— and it wouldn’t be good for his health. But Maxine couldn’t help it. She’s the only one who knew about Charles’ real situation, and even though she worked for him for a long time, she still couldn’t decipher how her master makes a strategy about everything. She just found it slightly ridiculous to let August think that he was just an ordinary employee— a fake son that Charles hired for his own greed, even though he was the one and only heir.
“Fuck!” August cursed under his breath as he immediately dodge the attack by jumping backward. He almost lost balance as his one knee hit the floor, and his other hand held onto the railing. He quickly remembered the first time Maxine tried to inject him with a syringe before. It was the same feeling now— the feeling of adrenaline rushing onto his body as he felt that his life was in danger.“Who are you?!” August asked and stood up. He clenched his fists as he stared intently at the person in front of him. That person was wearing a black suit like what ninja assassins wear every time they have an operation. He couldn’t see whether it was a man or a woman, but he could see the dagger that person was holding in its right hand, causing August to be more attentive.‘Fuck. This is my first day here and someone already wanted to kill me?!’ August couldn’t help but complain at the back of his mind. ‘I know now! This is the worst decision I’ve ever made!’“Ugh!”August groaned in pain as he
MEANWHILE, as August rested on the bed with four bodyguards watching the room— two on the terrace and another two outside, the perpetrator suddenly went to a place where no one could see him.“Fuck,” he muttered as he winced when he felt how stinging the cut on his face was. “That bastard,” he added, pertaining to August. The assigned bodyguards in the Remington mansion were rotated into three shifts. One is in the early morning, the second in the afternoon, and the third in the evening. Since August was introduced to the bodyguards in the afternoon, he wasn’t able to see his face— but he knew where the fake heir’s room was. He was assigned to the evening shift so he was able to do his mission. However, he didn’t expect whom he had seen as soon as he made his attack. It was easy to recognize that he was August Fordman, the man on the famous live stream made by Bruce Sandoval and Samantha Evergreen. He shook his head and pulled the phone inside his bag as he called someone using his b
AS AUGUST heard the broken vase inside the room, he suddenly stood up and quickly went to the door. He tried to twist the doorknob and open it but it was locked inside. Fear and worry crept onto his body as he thought that something might happen between the two of them.“What’s happening?” August asked, trying to communicate with either Charles or Maxine, but no one was answering.Still, all of the people outside could hear the sounds of a broken vase. Even the maid and the two bodyguards with him were worried. August could see it in their expression, but they didn’t know what to do.August, as he caressed his chin while thinking of any idea on how to resolve the situation, suddenly had an idea. “Someone out there must have the master key,” said August and turned his direction on the female maid. However, the maid shook her head. “The master keys are in Miss Maxine’s possession, and on top of that, that specific door doesn’t have a master key.”“A door knob without a master key? That
INSIDE THE room, which turned out to be the room where Charles conducts his secret health examinations with Maxine, Charles groaned continuously as he could feel pain every time he move. He was used to sudden attacks like this, causing him to hire Maxine as his personal nurse, but this time, his recent attack was severe. He was glad that the moment he had an attack was inside the room, and no one had seen him in such a pathetic situation. “You need to be confined to the hospital, master—” “I can’t do that,” Charles interrupted her in a weak voice. “Everyone was waiting for my downfall. As soon as someone finds out about this, they will use it against the Remington family. August would be in danger, too.” There are so many reasons why he wanted to keep his sickness a secret, but the main reason was to protect August and their wealth. When stockholders knew that the CEO was sick and dying, the stock prices would plummet, the same as the number of potential investors. While the numbe
“HAVE A seat, young master,” Maxine told August as she pointed to the white chair in front of the white rounded table.“Sure.” August immediately obliged as he sat down on the chair, following Maxine who also sat in front of him.Two cups of tea and a marble kettle were in front of them. August’s brows furrowed as he thought that it would just be an ordinary conversation, but it looked like it wasn’t the case.“Are we going to have a long discussion?” August couldn’t help but ask in curiosity.Maxine chuckled a little and raised a brow. “It depends on how the conversation will go, young master. However, let me get straight to the point.”Maxine leaned down and opened a suitcase which August didn’t notice that Maxine was carrying earlier. She pulled a thick document out of that suitcase and placed it on the table, causing August to raise a brow, confused.“Master wanted you to read and sign all of this,” Maxine told her before she tapped onto the document three times. “This is the empl
