“Fuck!” August cursed under his breath as he immediately dodge the attack by jumping backward.

He almost lost balance as his one knee hit the floor, and his other hand held onto the railing.

He quickly remembered the first time Maxine tried to inject him with a syringe before. It was the same feeling now— the feeling of adrenaline rushing onto his body as he felt that his life was in danger.

“Who are you?!” August asked and stood up. He clenched his fists as he stared intently at the person in front of him.

That person was wearing a black suit like what ninja assassins wear every time they have an operation. He couldn’t see whether it was a man or a woman, but he could see the dagger that person was holding in its right hand, causing August to be more attentive.

‘Fuck. This is my first day here and someone already wanted to kill me?!’ August couldn’t help but complain at the back of his mind. ‘I know now! This is the worst decision I’ve ever made!’

“Ugh!”

August groaned in pain as he

MEANWHILE, as August rested on the bed with four bodyguards watching the room— two on the terrace and another two outside, the perpetrator suddenly went to a place where no one could see him.“Fuck,” he muttered as he winced when he felt how stinging the cut on his face was. “That bastard,” he added, pertaining to August. The assigned bodyguards in the Remington mansion were rotated into three shifts. One is in the early morning, the second in the afternoon, and the third in the evening. Since August was introduced to the bodyguards in the afternoon, he wasn’t able to see his face— but he knew where the fake heir’s room was. He was assigned to the evening shift so he was able to do his mission. However, he didn’t expect whom he had seen as soon as he made his attack. It was easy to recognize that he was August Fordman, the man on the famous live stream made by Bruce Sandoval and Samantha Evergreen. He shook his head and pulled the phone inside his bag as he called someone using his b

AS AUGUST heard the broken vase inside the room, he suddenly stood up and quickly went to the door. He tried to twist the doorknob and open it but it was locked inside. Fear and worry crept onto his body as he thought that something might happen between the two of them.“What’s happening?” August asked, trying to communicate with either Charles or Maxine, but no one was answering.Still, all of the people outside could hear the sounds of a broken vase. Even the maid and the two bodyguards with him were worried. August could see it in their expression, but they didn’t know what to do.August, as he caressed his chin while thinking of any idea on how to resolve the situation, suddenly had an idea. “Someone out there must have the master key,” said August and turned his direction on the female maid. However, the maid shook her head. “The master keys are in Miss Maxine’s possession, and on top of that, that specific door doesn’t have a master key.”“A door knob without a master key? INSIDE THE room, which turned out to be the room where Charles conducts his secret health examinations with Maxine, Charles groaned continuously as he could feel pain every time he move. He was used to sudden attacks like this, causing him to hire Maxine as his personal nurse, but this time, his recent attack was severe. He was glad that the moment he had an attack was inside the room, and no one had seen him in such a pathetic situation. “You need to be confined to the hospital, master—” “I can’t do that,” Charles interrupted her in a weak voice. “Everyone was waiting for my downfall. As soon as someone finds out about this, they will use it against the Remington family. August would be in danger, too.” There are so many reasons why he wanted to keep his sickness a secret, but the main reason was to protect August and their wealth. When stockholders knew that the CEO was sick and dying, the stock prices would plummet, the same as the number of potential investors. While the numbe

“HAVE A seat, young master,” Maxine told August as she pointed to the white chair in front of the white rounded table.“Sure.” August immediately obliged as he sat down on the chair, following Maxine who also sat in front of him.Two cups of tea and a marble kettle were in front of them. August’s brows furrowed as he thought that it would just be an ordinary conversation, but it looked like it wasn’t the case.“Are we going to have a long discussion?” August couldn’t help but ask in curiosity.Maxine chuckled a little and raised a brow. “It depends on how the conversation will go, young master. However, let me get straight to the point.”Maxine leaned down and opened a suitcase which August didn’t notice that Maxine was carrying earlier. She pulled a thick document out of that suitcase and placed it on the table, causing August to raise a brow, confused.“Master wanted you to read and sign all of this,” Maxine told her before she tapped onto the document three times. “This is the empl

AS AFTERNOON came by, August came onto the other side of the garden where Maxine scheduled his next training. He was a little bit early because he didn’t have anything to do. After a few minutes, the area was filled with multiple men in suits, following Maxine who immediately went onto his direction and bowed her head as a sign of greeting. The purpose of his training was mainly physical— enhancing his senses, strength, and agility.Maxine would train him how to fight using his fists, self-defense, how to use a weapon on his choice, and more other things that he didn’t have any idea what it was all about.“Are they complete?” August asked as he turned his head on Maxine. “No one’s absent?”“Yes, young master,” Maxine responded, slightly nodding. “They are the bodyguards of the afternoon shift— the new ones.”‘Hassle,’ August thought, his forehead creased. ‘Why do they need to switch their shifts staring today? It’ll make it harder for me to find the attacker.’However, a bright reali

“YES, YOUNG master.” Maxine nodded and sat on the table. “You even fought with Stephen and Raquel.”They were Maxine’s subordinates, and most trusted bodyguards. Maxine once told him that those two were competent in their jobs despite their age. She had a good hunch about them, especially Raquel.Just to help August with his personal mission, Maxine even instructed Stephen and Raquel to have a fight with him. Yet, August didn’t have a lead on whoever the attacker was.“Right,” August said, and heaved a sigh afterward. His shoulders were sluggish as he sat beside Maxine and stared on one of the flower plants there. He felt like his efforts and determination went in vain— except from his enhanced body muscles and new skills, of course.“Maybe it was really a robber, Maxine suddenly spoke, causing August to look at her. “Despite the high security, there are rare instances that someone could enter this place.”August didn’t answer as he bring back his gaze on the flower plant. He just doe

SILENCE FILLED the conversation as the man in front of August wasn’t able to speak. His lips were parted and his eyes were full of amusement, surprise, and mockery at the same time.Watching August fight with one of his bodyguards earlier made him amazed. Still, his skills were incomparable when it comes to him.“Are you sure about that?” the man asked as he stood properly and placed both his hands in his pocket. “I might beat you into a pulp.”‘He’s annoyingly confident,’ August said at the back of his mind as he stared at the man in front of him. ‘I wanted to smash that sly smile of his.’They almost had the same height— but not the same build. The man looked more experienced and muscular than him.“I’m not sure,” August answered, slightly sarcastic, and snapped his neck. “Would you like to try?”“The name’s Mateo,” the man corrected him as he raised a brow. “And sure. If you insist, then.”The preparation didn’t last long. After a while, both of them were standing on the training g

AS AUGUST heard that statement, his brows immediately furrowed as confusion consumed him. He wanted to know first who was the guy behind him, and on who he was pertaining to. He wanted to turn his head but he couldn’t. Mateo’s punch on his stomach hurt him, big time. He would need another minute to calm down. “Young master.” Mateo immediately stood in front of August and bowed his head as a sign of greeting. ‘Young master? Is he the one who instructed August to attack me?’ August asked at the back of his mind. He tried moving but it was to no avail. Mateo was surely a skilled fighter. He didn’t beat him up with multiple punches— but it was those punches hitting on his core, making him stumble on the floor, growling. “I think you have beaten him just enough so he would listen to me,” the man said in an intimidating tone like he wasn’t talking to Mateo— but to him. ‘Fuck.’ August could only curse at the back of his mind. His neck went stiff, the same as his body. He knew that some

TWO YEARS LATER…The waves on the water splash on the yacht where August was standing right now. Both his hands were holding onto the rail as his gaze fixated on the sunset in front of him. It was beautiful, ethereal, and breathtaking… Just like the woman who was walking toward him.“August,” Daphne called her as she gave her husband a fruit shake. “You’ve been there for an hour already. Would you want to spend this day with fish than me?” she asked, pretending to be pissed as her lips curved into a smile.“No need to be jealous of nature, my dear wife. I just want to appreciate how beautiful the sunset was.”August laughed, pulling Daphne gently closer to him using his other hand. Now, both of them were staring at the sunset with genuine smiles plastered onto their faces. August’s hand was resting on Daphne’s waist, while the latter had her head leaned on her husband’s shoulder.A year ago, both of them got remarried, for real this time. COUPLE DAYS later, August was able to heal from the beating he had endured when Raquel took him down. He was now as good as hell, and he could now work tirelessly to catch up with all of the deadlines and meetings he had neglected while he was at rest. Fortunately, the press, with a lot of help from Daphne, didn’t know a thing about what happened to August, or else he would be bombarded by the press in front of the Remington Corporation. However, it would not be for long, as something grand would happen now. August had been waiting for this day—The day when the final showdown begins. This day had come down to this moment, where the tables would turn, and justice would finally be served. This time, August made sure that Francis would not be able to run away from his crimes, nor frame someone up to escape from it. Inside August’s office, all of his allies, Daphne, Sapphire, and Maxine, were inside the room. The air was thick with tension as they were looking at the wall clock from ti

RAQUEL, at that moment, was too stunned to speak. Shivers sent down his spine as the unexpected news lingered in his mind. His shoulder was aching because of the pain, but suddenly, it became numb as the pain struck his heart.“W-What?” Raquel asked, blinking his eyes twice. “Are you… fooling me?”“No… It’s the truth.” Sapphire shook her head, the pain registering through her rounded, brown eyes. “We’re Maxine’s children—Her lost twins.”“But how?” Raquel’s brows furrowed in confusion and annoyance at the same time. “If she is my brother, and you’re my twin, and you knew everything about it… Then why didn’t you approach me?”“Maxine only knew it recently, the same as mine.” Sapphire heaved a sigh and bit her lower lip afterward to contain her emotions. After a few seconds, she spoke again.“August informed me recently by giving the birth certificates Master Charles hid in his cabinet. It turns out that Maxine didn’t want to know us at that time because of the complexity of her job… Sh

He almost thought that it was Francis, but turns out that the lead scientist is Richard, the Wellington family’s original heir.“Are there—”“Greetings, Sir August.”August was about to ask the lead engineer if he found more documents other than the white folder he was holding now, but his words went midway as three cleaners who were wearing personal protective equipment suddenly bowed in front of him.“One of your employees called us to clean this room,” one of the cleaners said as she glanced at the mess August made earlier.“A-Ah. Right.”August only nodded at them, not knowing what to say. His mind was so shocked that he didn’t even notice his employees leaving him alone in the ro

“WHERE DID you go? Why do you look like shit?” Nicole asked as Bruce went inside the room, all his clothes were soaked because of the rain. “Take a bath first before you go to the dining table. You know that your father didn’t like seeing you like that,” she added, shaking her head. “Yes, Mother.” Bruce nodded as he was tired to explain everything. He went to the bathroom to fix himself. Bruce wore a simple white shirt and sweatpants before he went to the dining table, joining Nicole and Jake for their late dinner. Samantha was already out of the picture as his parents were also informed of what she did earlier. However, they weren’t aware that Bruce felt hurt because of the same reason. “Did you chase that bitch away?” Jake asked while they were eating. “Y-Yes, Father.” “That’s good,” Jake commented, and Bruce only smiled subtly in response. SHE IS the most stupid person in the world, and she knows it. If not only for the table in front of her, she might be sitting on the floor now. “This isn’t what we have talked about…”“I know,” August said, and Samantha didn’t notice that he was just done talking to someone on the phone. “That’s why it is called betrayal.
