CHAPTER NINETEEN It tasted good she had to admit. She didn’t know that Owen was a good cook. But somehow, she felt like he had made the food for her and she appreciated it. She had not eaten since yesterday and she was very hungry. Owen saw that she liked it even without her saying anything so he adde more to the plate. Mia took a seat close to the counter and dug into the food without a second thought. She ate until she was full and Owen took a bottle of water from the fridge and handed it to her as she downed it in one go. Mia opted to do the dishes but Owen blatantly refused so she just watched with him while he washed them, with some silly jokes in between. In no time, Owen was through with the dishes and they had to go back to the living room. Mia walked in front while Owen walked behind her. They sat in silence for a while, each person to their thoughts even though they had a lot in mind to say to the other. Owen was thinking of a way to ask her to work for him without sou
CHAPTER TWENTY It was mid afternoon and since Kate had no where to go, she choose to water the flowers in the garden. Maria had left for work and she was all alone by herself with the workers. She had to admit, she missed those moments she had with Owen but she couldn’t go back to that. She was tired of being under others, now she just wanted to be rich on her own. The flowers had overgrown, she noticed and since age was almost done with watering them, she decided to trim them. She went in to get the hand pruners. She was on her way to the store room when she heard a voice from outside. Maria had just arrived from the office and she was in high spirits. It appeared that the Riverdales had sent a token of their appreciation and support. She had asked the guards about Kate and they had informed her that she was in the garden. She walked to the garden and Kate wasn’t there but she saw the water kettle and so she guessed that it hasn’t been long she left. “Kate” Maria call
CHAPTER TWENTY ONE Owen broke out in cold sweat as the car gave him a tough chase, all the hole firing bullets at his car glass. If not for the fact that the car was bulletproof, then the glasses would have shattered by now. He was already driving above 120 as it stands and he couldn’t increase the speed further. They rained more bullets on his car and from the rear view mirror, he could see that another vehicle had joined and they were now two in number. He was about to make the final corner into his street when his phone tang and he saw that the caller was Mia. “Perfect timing” he mused before picking the call. Immediately he picked up the call, he could already hear Mia screaming his head out but he didn’t give her the chance to talk “Mia” he called but she didn’t reply, rather she continued yelling “Mia” he shouted this time and Mia clasped her mouth shut “Look Mia, the gateman is on a little vacation right now and the remote is in the security room, take the remote a
CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO “Go in” Owen heard the voice of someone, most probably their leader as he commanded the others to move in. Just as Owen suspected earlier, the assassins were professionals as they moved swiftly without even as much as a sound on the wooden floor. Owen observed his room, looking for an escape route incase things goes south or if his father didn’t make it on time. He heard them push the first door down and his mind skipped a beat. They wasted some time before breaking down the second door. It seemed like they had thoroughly searched the room. They did this to like three more doors before finally getting to his room door. He was scared out of his wits and the first instinct that kicked into him was to run. But he knew that Mia’s room was just a room from his and if they couldn’t get a hold of him, they would not think twice about having those ones killed. So he stood there unmoving as they hit the door the first time. The other doors were not locked from with

The perpetrators had caused a mess in the whole place and he couldn’t just stand by and watch them suffer alone so he opted to joined them admits their protest. It was past 2:00 in the morning but there was no sign of sleep in their eyes. The adrenaline that pumped through their body had taken every trace of sleep from their eyes. The whole place reeked of gunpowder even though it had been hours since the attack. The whole things in the suiting room were in place apart from they scattered around. All the expensive stuffs in there and they took nothing, not even a penny out of it. They made it clear they they were her for one thing and it was to end his life. He didn’t even know that he was such a bad ass driver until today. He was going to pay heed to his father’s advice, his father had left four men outside his house but they would be going back tomorrow so he had to hire h
CHAPTER TWENTY- FOUR It was no wonder they had guards crawling around the place like some money vault. The whole place screamed luxury. The living room was large enough to contain a thousand people and the floor to ceiling windows made the room more attractive. Maria directed her to one of the seats and she sat down when she was asked to. Maria had not forgotten to remind her that she should only do as she was told and she shouldn’t be faster than her shadows. “What should I offer you dear?” Esme asked facing Kate but Kate shook her head in response “there would be no need for that ma, I had my fill before coming here” Kate declined respectfully and Esme inly smiled in return. Her love for the girl only increased more. She prayed within her that her son would accept her. And speaking of the son, where was he? They heard some footsteps from the staircase and as if they were on remote control, they all turned at once to the stairs. Kate was awestruck by his beauty. He ha
CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE Owen was in his office as he addressed the crowd that had been presented to him. He had asked his father to arrange a security detail for him but instead, his father had invited lots of men and he had suggested that Iwen out all of them through differed tests and at the end of it, he would have the best men selected. Owen was as satisfied with the idea and he had asked his personal assistant to invite them into his office. They were about twenty five in number and although he would end up hiring a security company, he neede a handful of men who were strong and enough and trustworthy. “You all know why you are here so I do not really need to go into details right?” Owen asked and they all replied “yes sir”. He sighed before progressing “So, you are twenty five in number but seeing as I can’t employ the lot of you, I would only be hiring ten out of you all”. “So, I can’t just pick any one of you so I have come to the conclusion that a test would be undergo
CHAPTER TWENTY SIX “What do you mean?” Kate’s asked and Jake chuckled “we both know that this would be a political marriage, one of convenience and not necessarily out of love, so I ask again, what do you have to offer me? Kate was clearly offended by his words but she knew that as much as it sounded offensive, he was speaking the truth. “I am not sure I understand what you are trying to get at Mr Jake” Kate said with her head held high. She wasn’t going to let this man intimidate her “Ok, allow me to go into details. When my mother called for me to return home, I already knew it was about this marriage stuff because she has been doing this shit over the years and it was kinda getting tiring. So, I had concluded that I would do her bidding this time in order to put an end to the endless disturbance, but it would be a girl of my choice and not her chain of eligible spinsters. I would make my own decision. But it seemed I had not informed her early enough because she had c
