CHAPTER FIFTY Gabriel coughed continuously as his P.A tried to get him to calm down. The man had been sick for a while now, they had tried many medications, but none of them had cured him. They had tried to look for the cause if his sickness, and although they had involved many renowned doctors and physicians in their search, their search had seemed futile. “Should I call your son?” His P.A asked when the cough seemed persistent “No, don't stress him, I'll be fine” Daniel replied in between coughs. He didn't want to inform Owen of his sickness as he didn't want him to get worried over his health. This was his cross and he had to carry it alone. He had noticed this a few months before his attempted assassination and since then, it had only gone from bad to worst. “Just get me a cup of water and I'll be fine” Gabriel told the man and he left to do as he was told. Gabriel sighed. He was so close to catching the person or group of people that made an attempt on his
CHAPTER FIFTY ONE Gabriel walked into the suite where they had planned their meeting. He saw the man where he was seated, his back turned to him. He signaled to his guards to take protective positions while he and his P.A walked to where the man was seated. The man stood up from his seat on sensing his arrival. He had sharp senses, Gabriel noted. “Good day sir” The man greeted and Gabriel took his hand out for a handshake which the man collected willingly. He and his P.A sat across each other, while the man sat on the other edge of the seat where he was seated. “So, what do you have for me?” Gabriel asked and the man observed his surroundings closely before he brought out a file and a PC from the bag that was under the table, which Gabriel had failed to notice until now. He placed the PC and the file on the table before going ahead to open it. He picked up a disk from the file and inserted it into the PC while Gabriel didn't take his eyes off him as he didn't want
CHAPTER FIFTY TWO Owen had a cheerful smile on his face as he made his way towards the kitchen. He had received the best news of his life, Rina had called him this morning that her family house was under renovation and she needed a place to stay at the moment. Lodging at a hotel would have been her best alternative at the moment, but she didn't want to, so she had called to ask if he had an extra room. And he had agreed willingly. Since then, he has been overjoyed. He didn't know what time she was arriving so he had to make some necessary preparations before her arrival. He had called for interior designers and had arranged for a room directly opposite his. Right now, he was on his way to the kitchen to make something nice as he was still trying to impress her. He knew she was a rare jewel and he had to handle her with utmost care. “What's with the smile?” Mia asked and Owen was startled. “Calm down Mr” Mia said in between laughter “So, may I know what's going on? Been obse
CHAPTER FIFTY THREE Owen went to get Rina from where she was and it took a while before they came back. Owen was stalling, trying to make sure that Kate was fully immersed in her work before they arrived. He walked into the house, hand in hand with Rina as she had a smile plastered over her face. Owen's heart rate was abnormal as he tried to think of a solution to this impending doom. He knew that Kate and Rina in one room would be like mixing oil and water which was impossible. And Rina would not be happy with him if she sees Kate in his house. That alone would complicated issues and he wasn't in the mood for bantering or complications. To avoid getting into trouble, instead of climbing the stairs and taking her to his room to rest, he took her straight to the kitchen with the pretense that he wanted to make something nice for her, and Rina didn't object as she handed her handbag to the maid to take it upstairs for her. When they got to the kitchen, Owen started making som
CHAPTER FIFTY FOUR Maria had been busy the past week as the preparations for her daughter's upcoming wedding was a bit challenging. She had taken it upon her to make sure that the wedding would be a successful one. Esme was helping out in all that she could, and Katherine was also giving a helping hand. In less than a week, the preparations would be concluded and the wedding finalized. “Hey, hang it there” she said to the girl who was about to place a portrait on the wall. “Do I have to teach you everything?” Maria asked with a huff. She was tired of giving instructions, it seemed like they were all doing the opposite of what she wanted and she was really exhausted. For about a week now, her regular words had been “not there, there, not here, here” and she was pretty tired. “Oh Maria, what have they turned you to?” Maria heard a voice and she turned to see her sister, Benedicta. "To what do I owe this visit? Benedicta? Because it's been long I saw or even heard of you,
CHAPTER FIFTY FIVE Kate was fuming as she made her way out of the house. She had been insulted twice today by two insignificant people and this really hurt her pride. Mia had told her that she was in support of Rina's and Owen's wedding, and she wouldn't bear with anyone who tries to sabotage their plans. She huffed as she stormed out of the hallway, only to bump into Rina. She glared at her with raw hatred and Rina smiled at her. “Yunno, I found it hard to understand why you hate me, but as it is now I understand pretty well. You just can't help it, I'm too good” Rina said as she catwalked to where Kate stood, using her hands to brush off invisible speck of dust from Kate's cloth. “And need I remind you, the next time you try what you tried earlier today, I would make sure to teach you a lesson you would never forget in your entire lifetime” Rina whispered close to her ears and Kate clenched her fists until her knuckles turned white. Rina steeped away from her and wal
CHAPTER FIFTY SIX The celebration had come to an end, and it was time for them to return to their respective homes. Maria was beyond happy as she could see the envy on the faces of the people she had invited to the party. Even those who had claimed to be happy about the upcoming union, were all jealous and this made her ego bloat. “It's late already, we need to go home and take rest before the day breaks” Maria told Esme and Esme sighed. She had tried to convince her to stay the night and return to her house the next day, but Maria had refused. It seemed she still had a little bit of pride in her. Esme saw them out of the house, she and Maria gave each other a hug and Kate said her goodbyes to Jake. They drove out of the compound and Katherine retired to her room, while Jake offered to see Esme to hers. As soon as they got into Esme's room, Jake shut the door behind him. “What you tried to do today, do you know the risk you would be putting your son in if you had succeeded
CHAPTER FIFTY SEVEN Owen ran into the hospital premises like a mad man, while Mia and Rina tried to catch up with him. The nurses and doctors there had to give him space, to avoid running into him and vice versa. Owen raced to the room, since he was preinformed of the room number. He was told that his father slumped down and was admitted in the hospital, so he had to rush to meet him. He stopped in front of the room and pushed the door open with full force. He stepped into the room and was surprised to find out that there was no one there. He took his phone out from his pocket, by this time, Rina and Mia were already in the room. He called his father's number and it rang. He could hear the ringing from the room and he tried to find the phone. In no time, he saw the phone at the side of the hospital bed. He noticed that the bed cloth was rumpled, which meant that he had been here, but where could he have gone? A thousand thoughts ran through his head as he thought of a
