Andrew handed the phone over to Ethan.
"He is ready to talk to you." He said.
Ethan was still in disbelief after hearing that he had a father. His mind was racing through with thoughts on how such a thing was possible. If he hasd a father then why had he been living in an orphanage all his life?
Why had his father never shown himself? If his father could afford a bodyguard like Andrew, then that meant he had to be rich. So why hadn't he been there for him all his life?
Ethan was beginning to fume with anger as he took the phone from Andrew.
"Are you my father?" Ethan asked with a tone that contained a bit of ferocity.
"Ethan? Oh my god, it's finally good to hear your voice. I'm so sorry Ethan." An old voice replied Ethan, the words took Ethan by a bit of surprise but he didn't change his expression.
"Who are you? Are you my father?" He asked again.
"Calm down Ethan. Yes, I'm your father." The man replied with a cough.
"I know you must be angry and will have many questions in your mind but you just have to listen to me as I explain everything. I don't have much time left." The man said.
Ethan's heart skipped a beat.
"You're dying?!" He blurted out.
"I finally get to talk with my father only to discover that he's dying?" Ethan didn't even know whether to feel angry or sad about the situation.
"Yes, I'm sorry. I wanted to wait a little bit longer but my health isn't permitting me to. So just listen." His father said.
Ethan suppressed the myriad of questions that wanted to burst through his chest as he listened to his father who was about to kick the bucket.
He took a glance at Andrew who looked sad. It seemed as though Andrew was very downcast that the old man was about to die. It seemed like Andrew and his father had a very close relationship with each other.
Ethan's father started explaining himself on the phone. "Son, I know you must have many questions. The truth is, our family comes from a long lineage of wealthy and influential people. However, due to certain circumstances, I had to go into hiding when you were just a baby."
Ethan listened silently, though anger simmered within him.
His father continued, "There were people after our family's wealth and power. For your safety, I had to disappear and make it seem like you had no living relatives. It pained me deeply to leave you at the orphanage, but it was the only way to protect you."
"All these years I have watched over you silently. Now that you have come of age, I can finally tell you the truth about your heritage." His father coughed violently before continuing.
Ethan's brows furrowed as he listened to his father, he wanted to interject but he knew he had to listen. Even with the unease he felt in his chest, he kept silent and listened.
"Andrew has all the documents to prove our family's legacy. He will help you claim what is rightfully yours. I'm sorry I couldn't be there for you, my son. My only wish is that you live the life you deserve."
Ethan stayed quiet, letting the revelations sink in. He had so many emotions swirling within him - anger, betrayal, sadness.
Andrew handed him a thick file. "Here is all the proof, Young Master. Bank account details, property deeds, lineage charts. It's all yours now."
Ethan flipped through the pages with disbelief. It seemed too unreal, like he was living someone else's life.
His father spoke again on the phone, his voice weaker now. "Ethan, my boy, can you forgive this old man? I only did what I thought was best..."
Before Ethan could reply, the line went silent.
"Dad?" Ethan said. "Are you there? You've not finished explaining everything..."
Ethan clutched the phone in his hands as tears streamed down his cheeks. "I haven't even gotten to know you goddammit!
This is not how you are supposed to show up in the life of your son!" Ethan lasked out in tears.
Andrew's eyes grew moist as he realised what had just happened. He took out his handkerchief a d covered his face as he sobbed subtly.
Ethan couldn't come to terms with what was happening. His father had passed on.
Ethan sank to his knees, the phone slipping from his hand. Andrew picked it up gently. "Master, it is time for you to take your rightful place. I will serve you loyally, as I served your father."
Looking up at Andrew's kind face, the anger and pain in Ethan's heart dissipated a bit. He saw that Andrew was also deeply affected by his father's death. The same man who had served his father was now pledging to serve him faithfully. Ethan's chest felt a little full and he felt as though a big burden was just lifted off his chest.
Wiping his tears, Ethan stood up. He glanced at the file in his hands - the proof of his lineage and inheritance. It was time to uncover the mysteries of his past and reclaim what was his.
With Andrew's help, he would avenge his father's death and make his enemies pay. But it was something that he had to be very smart about.
Ethan took a deep breath and looked at Andrew with determination. "Tell me everything I need to know."
"But before all that, let's get out of here."
Andrew was impressed at Ethan's composure. He saw how Ethan quickly adjusted in the face of new circumstance. It felt as though he was looking at a shadow of Ethan's father.
Andrew politely bowed his head and gestured to the luxurious car he had come to pick Ethan with.
The storm clouds in Ethan's heart made way for a quiet resolve. Ethan Astor would no longer be a no-name orphan. The sharks who destroyed his family would come to regret it bitterly.
He had just left his so called wife's house to go back to the orphanage but his life had suddenly changed before he could blink twice.
Ethan was glad he was saved from doing something shameful.
Andrew drove Ethan in the luxurious car to a mini mansion on the outskirts of the city. Ethan has a lot of emotions that were still surging through him on the way but he was still left a bit awed the moment he took in the sight of the cozy mansion. Even though that bastard Philip had a larger house, it couldn't compare to the grandeur of this house that he had just arrived at. However, he wasted no time and was guided into the lavish building by Andrew."No need to be so tense, young master. It is just one of the numerous little hideouts that belong to your family. It is where I stay every time your father asked me to check on you." Andrew revealed. Ethan nodded his head and took his mind off the matter. "So explain, who are these people who chased my father to the brink of death and also made him abandon me all this while?" Ethan asked with slight anger in his tone. Andrew immediately got serious and wasted no time in filling Ethan in on all the details about his family and thei
"What?!" Ethan was dumbfounded. A scandal? Ethan couldn't understand why someone would do such a thing. He wasn't a popular person, so he assumed no one in their right minds would choose to mess with him in such a way. "Let me see it." Ethan said as Andrew reluctantly gave him the tablet. What Ethan saw shocked him. It was a hot headline on the internet about Ethan the pauper who had manipulated Sophia into marrying him while he also prevented her from seeing the love of her life, Philip. It said that she finally was able to break free of his manipulation and went to see Philip for help. Then Ethan disguised as a cleaner to get Sophia back in his control. The information also labelled Philip as Sophia's saviour as he chased Ethan away. Ethan's face crumpled in disgust at the ridiculous thing he had just read and he flinged the tablet onto the floor with an angry face. In the first place, it was Sophia who had deceived and manipulated him into marriage. He never for once got to kn
Geneva city was a big city which had different parts with different perks and qualities. There was a part of the city which belonged to the wealthy and influential in the city, only rich people could live there so the poor and average had no business going there for anything except as a worker. Close to the center of the area a mansion stood proudly with a wide compound. The walls of the property wasn't tall in order to show the wealth of the family that lived there. It was a well known mansion in the community. In an intricately decorated room of the mansion, Sophia was pacing about with a pensive and annoyed look on her face as she waited for her parents to arrive in the room.It was evident that she was disturbed about something and she wouldn't rest until something had been done about it. "Where the hell are they?" She asked in a flare of voice and action. The maid who was with her got quite scared and shook her head in response to signify that she had no answer. Just when So
Ethan woke up with a strange sense of incongruity. He was very tired the previous day and had slept like a baby. He took a look around the beautiful room he found himself in and it felt alien to him until the events of the previous day came pouring into his remembrance: it was as though life had treated him to a rollercoaster of conflicting highs and lows. Ethan had a strange feeling that something bad was about to happen to him again. And just as he had that thought, Andrew knocked on his door politely. "You can come in." Ethan answered. "Good morning, young master." Andrew greeted. "Good morning Mr Andrew." Ethan still found it strange that he had a new butler. Then he looked at Andrew's face and saw that Andrew looked a bit sad and was fidgeting in a kind of way. "What's the matter?" Ethan asked curiously. "It's about your sister Sylvie..." Andrew reported. "What happened to her? Did she fall sick?" Ethan asked worriedly. "She was on her way to school with Mark this mornin
Ethan received a call the moment he stepped back into the mansion. He took a look at his phone and discovered that it was an unknown and hidden caller. With a suspicious feeling that it wasn't good news, he picked up the call. "Ethan Stone, we have your sister." A nasty voice said before Ethan could even greet. "Who the hell are you?" Ethan forgot all pleasantries and asked the question that bit him in the chest the most with rage. "Who I am is not what is important." The voice replied, causing Ethan to furrow his brows. It seemed the person or people in question wanted to keep their identity a secret. "Then what is so important that you had to kidnap my sister?" Ethan asked once again while signalling to Andrew to do something. Andrew got the signal from Ethan and fervently began to do something. Ethan hoped he would be able to track the call and that was what he was trying to do as he took a laptop and started tracing the call. All Ethan has to do was stay on the call for one m
"Shit!" Andrew also cursed. It was as if the man had known that he would be tracked and he had ended the call at 59 seconds. Just a second more and Andrew would have gotten his location. Meanwhile Ethan was dumbfounded. Why did he have to do it almost naked? He realised that Sophia was meaning to drag him down to the dust and rub his face in it. "What did he say?" Andrew asked. He had been focused on tracking that he wasn't able to pay attention. So Ethan explained it to him."You can't do that, young master." Andrew vehemently declined. "Why not?" Ethan asked. "You are Ethan Astor. You must not be humiliated in such a way. Just give the order and I will make sure that your sister is found and delivered to you by the end of the day." Andrew said. He wasn't going to allow someone as prestigious as Ethan to do such a thing. Even though he had failed with tracking down Sylvie, there was still avast amount of resources that was at his disposal to get the job done safely. Ethan didn't
After watching the video over and over again as a form of entertainment. Sophia got bored of seeing Ethan's face. At some point, she noticed that the expression on his face wasn't really genuine... Or at least that's what it felt like to her. There was still some defiance she could notice in his golden eyes. Waving it off as some form of misconception, Sophia took her phone and finally called her father, Oliver Walton. "My beautiful flower..." Oliver said the moment he picked up the call. He hadn't even wasted any time in picking up her call. "That was the best breakup present ever, dad. Thank you!" Sophia said to her father. "I'm glad you like it." Oliver nodded and grinned with pride. He felt filled him with fulfillment that he had been able to please his daughter and make her happy. "I don't like it. I love it! I could watch it hundreds of times without getting bored. It feels good to see that bastard grovel and beg me. I just wish he could do it in my presence." Sophia said
"Big brother Ethan. Where's my sister?" Mark asked with a tearful tone as he spoke to Ethan over the phone. It was already the third day and he was still yet to see his younger sister being returned to him safe and sound. He had been trying to act strong until he couldn't take it any longer and called Ethan out of frustration. "Don't worry Mark. I promise you to get Sylvie back to you today." Ethan replied with a heavy heart. He felt guilty for what was happening to Sylvie and was sorry for the pain that she might be going through and also the anguish that Mark had been forced to endure. Only Mark's sobs were heard in response to Ethan's words."I'll do everything in my power to get her back to you today. Just wait for me and I will bring her." Ethan promised to reassure him. "After they made you beg they still didn't release Sylvie. It's not fair!" Mark grumbled with more sobs. Naturally, he had seen the video of Ethan apologizing to Sophie and he felt a huge guilt weigh on his c
