Terror unlike anything she had ever known flooded Clara as Ethan strode toward them, his cold smile promising cruelty.

"Release us at once!" Oliver struggled furiously, face purpling with helpless rage as their captors forced them to their knees on the damp grass.

Ethan ignored him entirely, eyes locked on Clara's. "Did you truly think your pitiful efforts could topple me?" His voice was deceptively soft, a velvet glove concealing iron. Up close, Clara saw the seething madness in his eyes and shudder.

"Or perhaps my own wife's betrayal?" Ethan spat viciously. "You will all rue the day you dared conspire against me."
