CH. 137: UNWILLING TO TOAST.

The other women around Lola’s table had mixed reactions to seeing Miles sit at that table. Worst, he had gone up there with Ethan James, of all people. This is the same man who had been utterly ridiculed by another former coursemate.

“Lola, what your husband is doing is crazy and sorta disrespectful.”

“Right. How much does he really make per year? We all know Miles Creek back at college. He’s one of the poorest men you’d ever meet. I doubt much has changed for him over the years, so I can’t understand what would give him the absolute audacity to go up there and sit down with the likes of August Leonard.”

Lola frowned slightly when she heard the things that her friends were saying about Miles. She wasn’t dumb, and thus, she could sense the passive aggressiveness of these other women. She looked up on that podium and a little moment of witnessing the way Miles carried himself, she was happy.

To be honest, Lola has long been suspicious of her husband’s true identity. As the months pass b
