Instead of the three families immediately going their separate ways, they still hung around in the restaurant. Everyone was chatting leisurely like they were friends, but in Johnny's eyes, it looked like they were probing each other. Fortunately, it was mostly the parents chatting away with each other. None of them were bringing Johnny, Rachel, Dorothy, or the Martin family heir into the conversation.

Unable to take it anymore, Johnny stood up as he said, "I'm going to take a bathroom break."

This stopped the conversation as Johnny's father said, "Be back soon."

Johnny nodded before he took his chance to escape and catch his breath. He didn't really need to use the restroom. It was the only excuse he could think of where they wouldn't question why he wanted to leave the table and be interrogated. He didn't have to worry about anyone disturbing him since it was only them and the staff.

Standing right outside the restrooms, he pulled out his phone to surf the web for anything interestin

Johnny knew he should have been more excited about the news. If he counted all his previous powers, this would be his fifth power. This would definitely put him far above the rest, who only had one power. However, there was a reason why he wasn't jumping up and down in excitement. The reason was simple, and that was the suspicious circumstances surrounding getting the new power."I thought you said you couldn't give out more powers without me having to do a quest," he said as he narrowed his eyes.[It is true that the user needs to complete a quest in order to get a new power, but the system can make an exception.]He stared in disbelief. The system was really doing whatever it wanted. Johnny was really glad he was on the system's good side. If he ever angered the system, he feared what it would do in retaliation. Several ideas popped up in his mind, and he shuddered at the images. He quickly shook his head of those thoughts to focus back on the system."What kind of power are you thi

"Regarding what we were talking about before," Johnny said, catching Dorothy's attention. "I accept. We don't need to do a contract or anything."It took her a few moments to figure out what he was talking about, and she narrowed her eyes as she asked, "What's with the change of heart?""I had some time to think about it while I was stuck in the toilet and decided to take the gamble," he said as he shoved his hands into his pants pockets.Dorothy grimaced at the mention of what he was doing in the restroom. She did not need to know what he was doing in there. It was obvious to anyone with a brain. At the latter part of his sentence, she immediately perked up. It was still highly suspicious how he decided to go along with it, but it would be better if he just agreed to her proposition.Unbeknownst to her, Johnny was listening to everything she was thinking. This was the reason why he readily agreed to her proposal. He would have never gone along with the idea if it weren't for his mind

"Johnny, do you have a plan?" Johnny's father asked the moment they returned home.Without hesitation, Johnny said, "I do.""Are you sure?" his mother asked with worry and concern written all over her face. "A month isn't a lot of time."It wasn't, and that's why he wondered why his parents had agreed so easily to the duration if they thought that. Well, there was no point in asking about it now. Instead, he needed to think about what he should tell them. He couldn't tell them the full truth, so he had to pick and choose carefully what he should say or keep close to his chest."It will be tough. I won't lie, but I already have ideas on how to handle it. Don't worry," he said.Their doubtful expressions made it clear that they didn't think the same. It was understandable since this was probably something they had not considered being brought up during the meeting. It was sudden and out of the blue. In that case, he needed to sell it hard enough to convince them that he had everything u

Rachel gnashed her teeth together and balled her hands into fists. That was impossible. There was no way she could have lost to some nobody. Even though he was the Burns family heir, they all knew it didn't mean much when he hadn't been with the family for long. He was basically a lucky stranger who got everything handed over to him on a plate.Johnny could instantly tell what she was thinking, even without his power. In fact, her thoughts were so loud that they were practically ringing in his ear. He almost sighed, thinking about how annoying it was to deal with someone like that. Johnny couldn't help wondering if this was her real personality instead of the one she had shown back in the beginning."Now that I have proven myself, what do you have to say?" Johnny asked, wanting to see what she would do now.Her father was the one who answered. "I can see no problem for both families to continue working together to run a successful business.""'I'm glad to hear it," Johnny said with a

Johnny stepped forward as he said, "Anyway, we better get going. We have a lot of things we need to get done."The two women looked at him with annoyance at having him interrupt them. He could hear loud and clear that they couldn't believe he would get in their way. Honestly, he wondered if he was dealing with a bunch of teenagers instead of fully grown women. Were they really the same women he encountered at the very beginning? He shook his head slightly and said, "Dorothy, let's go."Dorothy was reluctant to go, but she eventually caved in and followed Johnny. Before the duo left, the two women glared at each other, telling each other with their eyes that this wasn't over. Johnny was seriously questioning their maturity. He wondered if he had somehow been dropped in an alternate reality where they were immature teens. That was a silly idea. If he really did end up in an alternate reality, wouldn't he have realized it already? He was pretty sure it would be really obvious that he was

Now that the idea was implanted in Johnny's brain, he couldn't shake it off and started his own investigation. Of course, it wasn't that easy. He had to juggle between looking for clues and handling his daily affairs. There was the jewelry business, and he still couldn't figure out how he managed to make it work. The dating business was also hanging over his head.Dealing with the two women wasn't exactly something he wanted to do, but he had to suck it up for now. However, those weren't the only problems. He didn't have much to go on. If the monster thing was true, who knew what else he couldn't remember? He wouldn't be able to be sure if something was just his imagination or not.His investigation didn't go unnoticed, either. The ones that noticed the most were his parents, since he was using the family's resources to do some digging. He had managed to come up with excuses each time, but there were only so many times that he could say it was because he wanted to know more about the

"System, if this isn't an alternate world, could this be a dream or illusion?" Johnny asked. As soon as those words left his mouth, he felt like an idiot. While it was true that the system was probably his best option for answers, it actually didn't make sense in hindsight. If it was either of those options, why would the system know about it or be able to help him? It was all in his head, so anything the system said would be something he would think of.[The system wondered if the user would ever notice.]Startled, he stared at the screen for several long moments before asking, "Come again?"[The system was uncertain whether or not the user would ever recognize that none of this was real.]Anger coursed through his veins as he demanded, "Explain."[The system doesn't understand what the user is upset about.][This is a test designed to see if the user is worthy of getting a power or not.]His eyebrows shot up as he asked, "What do you mean? I thought I already got my power. In fact,

"System, is there anything you can tell me about the test?" Johnny asked. [The user already has all the clues needed to solve the test.] Johnny frowned as he considered the system's words. If that was the case, what was he missing? He had already gone over everything that happened in this fake world. Thinking it over, he still couldn't come up with anything. Well, he did have another idea, but it was so ridiculous that he couldn't bring himself to voice it without looking like a fool. [What will the user do?] However, if there was a slight chance that it might work, he had to take the chance. In the worst case scenario, he would just feel like an idiot. There was no one there to judge him for it, and he didn't think the system would penalize him if he said something wrong. It certainly hadn't done anything to him so far, so he didn't think that would change. "System, can I choose to return to the real world?" he asked. [If that is what the user wants, then the user can.] He star

Hello everyone. I forgot to add a note in the previous chapter. Anyway, I just want to thank all my readers who have been following along. I really appreciate it. Now for the news you have been waiting for.Johnny's story has ended and turned out shorter than Billy's story like I expected. With its end, I currently have no ongoing stories on this site.I've decided I'll take a break from the site. How long the break will last I'm not quite sure. Hopefully, the break won't be long, and I have a new story up within the year, but we will have to see.Just like with Rise of the Demon King: Caleb Gonzales's Rat Race and Rise of the Desperate: Billy Wood's Save and Restart System, I might do a rewrite or remake of it.If I do go through with this idea, then I'll just immediately go to eBook and paperback, and it would be very different from the one here. We will have to see, and I'll let everyone know.As I stated before, if you want to stay in contact with me, you'll probably have to use F*

"By the way, I don't mean to rush things, but the time limit for the hour is until I return," she said. That certainly caught Johnny's attention as he demanded, "How long is that?""A couple more minutes," she said.A couple minutes wasn't a lot of time to come to a life changing decision. He still needed more time to think. Did he really want to take a chance and accept the offer, which meant leaving everything he knew, or should he stay and weather whatever the system had in store for the world? Weighing the pros and cons of each decision, he could feel sweat forming on his head."I need to go. Have you come to a decision?" she asked. After a brief moment, he said, "Yes.""Well, what's your decision?" she asked."I'll take the offer," he said. She smiled as she said, "Good choice."Suddenly, Katherine slumped over alarming Johnny, who rushed to check up on her. She appeared to be still breathing, and there didn't seem

"Okay, I'm listening," Johnny said."I'm glad to see you can be reasoned with. I've heard of others who aren't so fortunate," the intruder said."Others?" he said."We'll get to that later," she said as she attempted to make a waving motion.Unfortunately, Katherine's missing limbs made that a moot point. It honestly made Johnny uncomfortable seeing Katherine's body attempt to do something an ordinary person could do. He wasn't the only one put off by the situation. The intruder grimaced as she settled back into the wheelchair."Anyway, I'm here to give you a proposal from the system," the intruder said."What?" Johnny snapped."You heard me right. The system would like to offer you a deal, and it's up to you if you want to accept this," the intruder said.Johnny's mind whirled over what she said, scarcely believing what she just said. The system wanted to offer him a deal? This was completely unplanned. He had never heard of t

Johnny blinked. "Wait. EVeryone?"He couldn't believe what Frank was saying. Was he crazy? Did he really want to let the whole world know about the monsters being able to receive messages from the system? It would be complete chaos. Johnny was exactly advocating to tell no one. Far from it, but he couldn't see how it would help anyone to inform the public about this information."Well, not everyone," Frank said. "I'm referring to the authorities as this is a matter of security.""Will they take it seriously?" Johnny asked."It's hard to say. It's possible everyone will think it's a joke, but it's also possible that some will take the warning seriously," Frank said."I see," Johnny simply said."If that's all, I'm going to take my leave and let you get some rest," Frank said as he stood up.Johnny nodded. Chapter 93: Aftermath

Johnny's eyes snapped open as he sat up abruptly. His mind was moving at several miles per hour as he scanned his surroundings. He had to stop her before she got away. However, the monster was nowhere in sight. He wasn't sure how long he had been out cold, but he supposed it was a bit much to expect the monster to linger just because he told her to stop.More importantly, he was no longer in that place considering the lack of lava. Taking a good look at his surroundings, he deduced that he was back in his own world, which set him on edge. How did he get back? As he wondered who or what had brought him back, the door to the room swung open. He stared at the sight of Frank leading the backs of doctors and unknown men."Johnny, you're awake," Frank said as he rushed over to check on him.A tad bit uncomfortable with how Frank was acting, Johnny asked, "Frank, what happened?"Frank grimaced. "It's a bit of a long story. First, we should make sure you're okay."As soon as he said that, Fra

    Chapter 92: True Form

As Johnny stared at his mother, wondering why he felt uneasy about the whole thing, it finally clicked. "You're not my mother.""What are you talking about? Of course I'm your mother," she said.Johnny shook his head as he took on a relaxed stance. "No, you're not. I don't know why you're pretending to be here, but you should just give up now. It's not going to help you in the long run."The woman also dropped her stance and shrugged her shoulders as she said, "Well, this is unexpected. How did you know?"Rather than admit that it was just his gut instinct, he said, "I have no reason to tell you.""I suppose I should have figured you would say that," she said calmly. She was far too calm for his liking. He knew nothing about it here other than she was a fake, which didn't mean much in the end. It wasn't like he would have gone easier even if she was his mom. However, it did explain why she killed his father without batting an eye, but it begged the question of where his real mother wa

Chapter 91: Unexpected Turn of Events

Johnny ignored his father, as he was just relieved that his healing power and fire power helped him survive his father's attack. His fire power apparently gave him some resistance to fire, and his healing power healed whatever managed to get past his fire resistance. He took advantage of his father's shock to lunge at the man and return the favor. He landed several punches before his father recovered from his shock and shielded against the punches. Johnny didn't let up and continued to barrage his father with punches, hoping to get past his defenses and continue his original onslaught. After some time, his father apparently had enough and roared as he unleased a wave of flames. With a grunt, Johnny was forced back, though he was unharmed. His father glared venomously at him as he snarled, "That's enough. I'm going to end this."With a bravo that he didn't completely feel, Johnny said, "Just try it. You're just going to fail again."As his father was about

While Johnny didn't like the idea, he didn't have much of a choice. Sticking around wasn't going to do anything except waste time and put himself in possible danger. With no one else with him, he had no one he could rely on if he was suddenly attacked by a bunch of monsters, which was a serious risk. He didn't want to take that risk."Where do we meet up?" Johnny asked."We'll try to continue with the plan and head for the head of the family's office," Frank said.Just as Johnny was about to protest that idea, he heard a loud animalistic roar. He frantically checked his surroundings and didn't see anything. Before he could feel relieved, he heard screams and shouts on the other side. He placed his hands on the rubble, hoping to at least find a small opening to get a better look at what was happening."Frank? What's going on? Are you okay?" Even though Johnny had said he wasn't going to let the matter go, wasn't it a bit much to storm the Burns family's home just days after his decision? He thought it would take a couple weeks to prepare. They couldn't take down such a powerful family in just a few days. What was everyone thinking? He wondered if they all had lost their minds."Johnny, is something the matter?" Frank asked as the car headed for their intended destination. "You don't look good.""I just can't believe we're moving in now," Johnny said."You have nothing to worry about. Everything has already been sorted out," FRank said."Are you really sure we're good to go?" Johnny asked."You have nothing to worry about. It's been modified to include your involvement," Frank said.Frank might have said it to reassure Johnny, but it didn't in the slightest. Johnny had been at the meeting discussing
