Chapter 14: Considering His Options

Caleb jumped into the air before scurrying away from what he assumed was his enemy. After ducking for cover within the bushes, he dared to peek out from under his cover to see that nothing was there. Confused and unnerved by the turn of events, he refused to come out of his hiding spot as his eyes darted for his mysterious enemy.

Several minutes passed, and there was still no activity. He knew he couldn't stay there all day, but he was scared to go out and be ambushed by his unseen enemy. Waiting a bit longer, he knew he couldn't stay there any longer when his stomach growled. All the running had made him hungry, so he reluctantly stepped slowly out of his hiding spot.

As soon as he was fully out in the open, he expected to be attacked immediately. However, nothing popped out of the shadows to hurt him. Scanning his surroundings, he couldn't spot anything out of the ordinary. Scratching
