Luke didn't think he would see the party fail a quest with him leading it in this life. In the previous life, failure in the earlier quests wasn't surprising. They were still getting used to things, and failure didn't always automatically mean death or horrific scarring. That didn't mean they didn't receive a penalty or punishment for failing them, but the consequences weren't as severe. As they had matured, failure hadn't been an option.

Now the party was facing their first failure, and Luke wasn't sure what the party would expect. He didn't have time to worry about the caravan, as it was already too late if they were receiving the notice now. Everyone in the caravan was undoubtedly dead, and trying to find them would be pointless. At best, they would find their corpses and what remained of the supplies.
