Billy whistled a tune as he held his precious cargo to his chest. His wife was going to love what he got her. She had mentioned before that she wanted some new earrings when he asked why she wasn't wearing the ones he got for her a couple months ago. Since he got her red earrings last time to go with her dress, he got blue ones to match her eyes.
He paused and shifted his weight so he wouldn't drop the cake, flowers, and champagne while he locked the car. Once he was successful, he turned around and frowned at the other car parked nearby. Billy had never seen the car before. It certainly wasn't one of the cars his wife and her family drove. They must have guests visiting.
It would explain why no one had come out to greet him. No one had mentioned guests, but they probably didn't have the chance to tell him. With a shrug, he walked past the car towards the door. The thought of the surprised and pleased look on her face when she saw him return home early with gifts brought a smile to his face.
Unlocking the door, he was about to call out that he was home when he froze. His arms went slack, and everything in his hands dropped to the ground. There was a loud crash as the bottle of champagne shattered, sending pieces of glass and champagne everywhere. He could feel the front of his pants and shoes becoming wet as they soaked up the champagne.
Billy vaguely thought that the cake was probably a ruined mess now, and the flowers wouldn't be salvageable after being covered in champagne. However, his mind barely took notice of those things as he watched his wife pull away from the man she had been kissing. Her blonde hair and face were a mess, and her lips were clearly swollen from the intense make out session.
Words failed him as he tried to process what he had just seen. Had his loving wife really just cheated on him? No matter how hard he tried to rationalize it, there was no rationalizing his wife kissing another man. How could this happen? How did he miss the signs? There must have been signs of his wife hooking up with another man behind his back.
He quickly realized there had been, but he had been too blind to see it. They hadn't had a proper conversation in months. Billy had tried to make excuses, saying that it was because their schedules didn't match up. However, it was just him trying to convince himself that nothing was wrong.
In hindsight, perhaps he should have known something like this would happen. Even though his wife's family didn't treat him badly, he could tell they were unimpressed with him. He didn't have anything to add to the family. As an orphan with nothing to his name, they probably thought he was trying to leech off of her. They must have thought she was going through a phase, and that phase was over.
However, he didn't want things to end this way, except that he found himself utterly speechless. He didn't know what he could say in this situation. How was anyone supposed to react other than with rage, grief, and humiliation? In the time the two sides had been staring at each other, everyone else in the house had ushed over to see what the commotion was about.
The servants stood on the sidelines, not choosing either side. Billy didn't expect anything less. They weren't going to risk their necks for him. Honestly, he didn't care about them right now. It wasn't like he was really close with any of them to feel upset that none of them had let him know what was going on behind his back. What he cared more about were his wife's parents, who had shown up.
"What's the commotion?" his wife's father demanded.
The duo immediately took in the situation with a calm expression, unlike their previous expression. The fact that they weren't surprised to see the man with his wife meant they had known about him for a while. Had everyone been laughing behind his back while he showered his wife with affection? They must have thought he was some kind of fool.
"You returned home early," his wife's mother said as she smoothed out her clothes, acting like she hadn't rushed over in a panic.
"I wanted to celebrate our six year anniversary," Billy mumbled.
He didn't know why he said that. Immediately, there were snickers from some of the servants, who quickly shut up at the glare they received from his wife's father. However, the man didn't reprimand them, which meant he agreed with them. He only glared at them because he didn't want to ruin their image.
"In that case, we can settle things right away," his wife's father said as he stood by his wife. "Tell him, Debra."
His wife pushed her blonde hair over her shoulder and crossed her arms as she said, "We're getting a divorce."
Her words hit him like a truck. Even though he should have seen it coming, he hadn't been prepared to be struck by the sudden information after the shock he experienced. His mind was still reeling as his wife continued on, like she hadn't noticed his inability to keep up.
"I expect you to be gone within the hour after you sign the divorce papers. Don't expect anyone to take anything with you. You should be grateful that we're not demanding that you repay us for all the money that was spent on you," she said as she leaned towards her new man.
Billy opened his mouth, but nothing came out, and he shut it. He opened again with the same results. It was simply too much for him to process. How could things have spiraled out of control? She was basically saying they were throwing him to the streets. Did she not have any lingering feelings toward him to at least spare him some mercy?
"What are you looking at?" the man next to his wife demanded as he wrapped an arm around her waist.
Finally gathering the courage to speak, he was about to defend himself when they heard a noise outside. Everyone looked at the front door in confusion. It sounded like something was going on, but Billy couldn't think of any event that would cause any excited screaming. Of course, he hadn't known about his wife's lover either.
"Well, open the door," his wife's lover ordered.
The thought of actually obeying the man responsible for ruining his marriage made him sick, but there was no way they would be able to continue their conversation with all the noise outside. With a grim expression, Billy opened the door to tell the people outside off. The last thing he saw was someone lunging at him and sinking their teeth into his face.
Billy gasped and nearly took out the person next to him, who happened to be his manager. The man luckily avoided Billy's swinging arm and glared at Billy, who was trying to process what just happened. He was pretty sure he had been attacked by a crazy person, so why was he back in the office? Then he noticed how his manager looked ready to blow a basket and braced himself."How dare you. I'll have your job for this," the man exploded, with spit flying everywhere.Even though Billy should be upset about the spit landing on his face, he was still trying to figure out what was going on. Had he been daydreaming? He placed a hand on his face as he recalled the pain of having his face being torn apart. It had felt too real to be a dream. What was going on?""Are you listening to me?" the manager demanded as he got into Billy's personal space and stabbed a finger into his chest.Looking down at the finger pointed at his chest, Billy thought about what he should do now. If everything that hap
At least Jacqueline was still willing to help him out. Billy really needed to repay her for everything, but first he needed to return home and confirm for himself that his wife was really cheating on him. He also needed to figure out what had happened before he died. After thinking about it, he had some idea of what it could be. However, he had to see for himself to confirm his thoughts."Thank you so much. I'll definitely repay you," Billy said. His answer seemed to startle her as she stared at him with a confused expression before she said, "I'm glad to help. Let's grab the coffee before you go."The events that followed after were just as he remembered, though there were some slight differences. It couldn't be helped considering how he had changed some things already. The fact that things were working out so closely, according to his memories, was actually quite frightening. Was it telling him there was no escaping his fate of being kiled?Billy now stood in front of the house, sta
This time, Billy was ready for the thing that lunged at him. Before it could tear into his face, he stabbed it right between the eyes with his knife. He grimaced as he felt blood splatter across his face. It was only a tiny amount, but it wasn't a pleasant feeling. Raising a hand to wipe some of the drops from his face, he calmly ripped his knife out of the thing in front of him.It dropped to the ground, and he finally noticed the screaming behind him. Looking back, he saw that everyone had gathered and was looking fearfully at him. They had never expected him to kill someone. That was if they could call the thing that attacked him a person. The way it was acting made him think of a zombie.Billy would have normally thought that the idea was ridiculous, but he had died and woken up in the past. He would believe anything at this point. However, this wasn't the time to be idle. Dropping down to his knees, he searched the body for any clues to what was going on. A zombie couldn't just a
"What's that?" his wife's mother demanded as she clung to her husband. There was another loud bang, causing several people to scream. Billy took the opportunity to choke the second guard into unconsciousness and deal with the first guard. The man was unprepared for the consecutive punches that Billy threw his way. He fell to the ground with a groan as Billy grimaced.Billy would have preferred to keep them both able bodied for what was about to happen. They needed more people who could actually fight, but they left him no choice. The banging was nonstop as everyone backed away from the door. It looked like no one was dumb enough to open the door after what happened earlier. Good. It would buy them some extra time.Taking the tasers and batons that the guards stupidly didn't use against him, he debated for a moment. After thinking about it, he tossed one of the tasers at his wife, who nearly dropped it. She stared at it before holding it close to her chest. He threw one of the batons a
Billy took a moment to catch his breath after ripping his knife free from the zombie's neck. Observing his surroundings, he could scarcely believe that they had survived the encounter in one piece. Well, not everyone had. The number of people that had survived was but a small fraction of how many there had been to begin with.Of course, he couldn't say for sure that there were no other survivors in the other parts of the building. There was no way to tell unless he searched everywhere. For now, he needed to focus on the survivors that were nearby. The only people left in the vicinity were himself, his wife, and her parents. It wasn't surprising since he had worked hard to protect them from the zombies. He winced at the throbbing pain in his shoulder. Glancing down at his shoulder, he grimaced at the long marks that ran down his arm. A zombie had gotten lucky and managed to claw at his arm. Of course, he got back at the zombie by bashing its head in with his baton before stabbing it re
Billy gasped as he felt up his chest. The piece of metal that had torn right through his lung was no longer there. In fact, his clothes were clean as a whistle, and the aches and pains he felt from fighting the zombies weren't there. He did feel some phantom pains, but he could tell that his body was fine. That's when he realized how silent it was. Taking a look at his surroundings, he saw that everyone was looking at him with wierded out expressions. Well, it wasn't surprising since he suddenly frantically checked his body for injuries. Anyone would be confused and a bit disturbed by what they were seeing. Even the manager was stunned and speechless.Lowering his arms, he calmly asked, "Is there something you need, sir?"The manager snapped out of it and demanded, "Get me a coffee."It wasn't the exact same words, but they were close enough. As soon as the manager said this, Billy was immediately swarmed with requests. By this point, he should be caving in and accepting their demands
Billy's first instinct was to tell her no. She shouldn't get involved. in his problems. It wasn't any of her business, but that wasn't the case anymore. He had brought her into his affairs the moment he told her everything. That was the plan, after all. The hangup was only because he was used to refusing to let other people get involved in his issues."It's good to have you," he said with a nod.Jacqueline squinted at him as she said, "I would have thought you would tell me not to get involved.""If that was the plan, I wouldn't have told you anything," he dryly said."That makes sense, so what now? Do you have a plan?" she asked as she crossed her arms."With the zombie apocalypse happening not long from now, we need to prepare ourselves. Everything I own is back at my house, so I need to go get them," he said as he started walking again. She followed after him and asked, "Are you sure you can't get them later? I don't mean to be disrespectful, but what do you have that is so importa
"What's going on here?" his wife's father demanded as he looked between the two groups. Not a second later, his wife's mother pointed at him as she said, "Could you have cheated on our daughter?""How dare you!" his wife's father snarled as he stormed up to Billy.Billy didn't react as the man grabbed him by the collar. There was a spark of annoyance that they were so quick to think he was a cheater. He had been completely faithful to his wife. There hadn't been a single moment where he looked at another woman. Jacqueline was proof that he would choose his wife first. Well, he would have."Answer me," his wife's father demanded. "I should have known that you weren't good for my daughter. I should have never allowed you to marry her."While Billy could let the man continue to rant, they were short on time. Without saying a word, he grabbed the arm, grabbed onto his collar, and pulled it off. His wife's father stared in shock. Whether it was because he was shocked by Billy's strength or
