Billy jolted up the moment he felt his body hit the ground. He hissed as he scanned his surroundings with wary eyes. It looked like he was back in the street in front of the elderly couple's house. It seemed that his idea had worked. He had been jolted back to reality from his fall. He had been concerned that he might accidentally kill himself, despite how carefully he had considered how to fall.Accidents happened after all. As he stood up, he swung the knife in his hand to stab a zombie lunging at him. Well, this wasn't the time to be daydreaming. There were zombies to kill. He scanned the area to pick out where Jacqueline and the elderly couple could be. Now that he was back in reality, he could remember exactly what happened. After the announcement from the system, they had been hit by a zombie wave. Billy and Jacqueline had no choice except to go out to handle it. While they were in the middle of dealing with the zombies, a group of surivors had suddenly appeared out of nowhere.
"You should leave," Billy said after several moments of silence."We will not," the elderly man said. "We won't let you kill her."Billy looked the old man in the eye and asked, "Then are you going to let her suffer? Can't you see that she's in a lot of pain? At the very least, you won't have to see her die if you leave right now."As the elderly man was about to snap, the elderly woman placed a hand on his shoulder, and he stared at her in confusion. "Dear?""He's right. We can look away from reality, but it's not going to change anything," the old woman said.Despite how hard she was trying to put up a front, they could all see her hands shaking from the anger and frustration that they all shared. For several long moments, no one spoke another word. Suddenly, Jacqueline coughed up more blood before moaning in pain as she clutched her injury. At the sight of her pitiful state, the elderly couple looked at her in anguish. Finally, the old man said, "Fine. We'll be in the other room."
"Dear," the elderly man started. The elderly woman cut him off, saying, "We can't let her body rot in the house. We'll do a proper cremation."Billy raised an eyebrow as he asked, "How are you going to do that? Will you be setting up a pyre or something?""How else will you suggest burning her body? You're not going to say we should douse her body in gasoline and set her on fire, do you?" the old woman asked as she stared Billy in the eyes.He sighed. "That's not what I'm saying. First of all, we don't have any gasoline, or I didn't see any at least. Second, burning her body is going to draw attention to ourselves. It's hard to miss the signs of something burning."Depending on how big the fire was, the smoke that would come out from burning Jacqueline's body might be visible from miles away. That kind of attention wasn't something they wanted. Someone might come to investigate what was going on, which could lead to another situation like what lead to Jacqueline's death. He didn't eve
Billy wasn't sure how he managed to get any sleep down after everything that happened, but he was able to get some rest before waking up to sunlight. With a groan, he sat up as he assessed what he should do next. The first thing should obviously be inspecting the place he was in. He had done a half assed job looking around before he fell asleep. He had only done a quick sweep to make sure nothing was lurking in the shadows. Billy hadn't even made sure that the front door was secure after he closed it behind him. It was an amateur mistake, and he was lucky that nothing happened to him. What happened to Jacqueline obviously weighed heavily on his mind. He couldn't stop thinking about what they had talked about. She hadn't begged for him to restart so that she could live. Obviously, he wouldn't have done it even if she asked. He might have lied to her to comfort her, but he wouldn't throw his life away over something like that. It was a complete waste to kill himself when he could live l
Billy silently walked through the streets, scanning for signs of zombies. Instead of staying in the building he had been in before, he knew it was imperative that he collect as many points as possible to get information from the system. The longer he put it off, the longer it would take before he got the thousand points he needed. Now if only there were zombies around."Where are they?" he muttered to himself as he looked around the corner. He had yet to encounter any zombies so far since he left the building. There should be more zombies roaming the streets, but it looked awfully deserted. It had been kind of the same when he had distanced himself away from the elderly couple. Had they perhaps migrated to a different location? Recalling how the zombies swarmed the elderly couple's house twice, he had to consider it as a possibility."Out of all the times, it had to be now that there are no zombies," he said to himself as he continued walking. It was like the universe was treating his
Billy gathered a couple more rocks and took careful aim. All of them, except for the last, hit their target. He couldn't be sure if it was because he had messed up on the last one or because they had finally caught on to what was happening. It wouldn't surprise him if it was the later. They hadn't done a good job proving their intelligence thus far."Who did that?" demanded one of the men."This isn't the time," another one said. "Focus on the zombies."It seemed his distraction had done its job as another two members faced their end at the hands of the zombies. At this rate, they would be dead in a couple minutes. There was no need for him to intervene anymore. Crossing his arms, he watched them try their best to survive, but the odds were against them. One by one, they died at the hands of the zombies until there were none remaining.Watching them die had been satisfying. Hopefully, this was a good enough offering for Jacqueline in the afterlife. Now it was time to reap further bene
Billy decided to be merciful and end her life. Of course, he didn't make it quick or easy. It was a bit tricky since her body was already messed up from what the zombies did. He had to say that he did a pretty good job carving her out. The woman had clearly tried to scream the entire time, but she had been unable to voice her pain.In the end, he calmly stared down at her corpse as he wiped the blood on his hands onto whatever clean clothing she had. Now that she was out of the way, he should focus on what to do next. While he had obtained some points for killing zombies, it wasn't enough for him to get what he needed. He looked up at the sky and used his hands to block the sun from his eyes.Given the sun's position, it was late in the afternoon. He would getthe idea that he would have about maybe three hours left of sunlight. By that time, he would need to find another place to rest for the night. The question was, should he continue to look for zombies until the last possible momen
"Are you listening to me?" the manager demanded sending spit in all directions, including Billy's face.Billy stared blankly into the man's face before spinning on his heel and walking away. Everyone stared in disbelief as Billy didn't pay any mind to any of them. His mind was currently a whirlwind as he tried to process what had caused him to restart. He had managed to successfully get away from the house and dodge into another alleyway. When he thought he was in the clear, he had suddenly been shot again. This time it had been his leg, so he dropped to his knee as blood stained his pants. Before he could recover and get away from the place, there had been another gunshot. The next thing he knew was that he was back to the beginning, with the manager shouting at him. He must have been shot in the head.He had barely lasted a day after Jacqueline's death. Okay, that was a bit of an exaggeration. He had technically lasted a little bit over a day. He could say a day and a half if he sta
