Fiona turned to look at him, her expression unreadable. "Why do you ask?" she finished, her voice smooth and nonchalant.

Leo knew she was playing a game, but he didn't know what the rules were. "It's just that you've been spending a lot of time with your father, and I'm curious as to what you've been discussing," he said, choosing his words carefully. "I know you're a shrewd strategist, and I'm sure you're always thinking a few steps ahead. But I'd like to know what those steps are."

"Do you not trust me, my love?" asked Fiona, a hint of playfulness in her tone. "I assure you, I have the best interests of our kingdoms at heart. I would never do anything to jeopardize our safety or security."

Leo studied her for a moment, searching for any sign of deceit. But her face was like a mask, and he couldn't tell what she was truly thinking. "I trust you with my life," he said at last. "But I'd be remiss if I didn't ask the question. You must understand my concern."
