Owen's heart pounded in his chest as he followed Maya down the corridors of the house, his footsteps echoing in the silence like a drumbeat of uncertainty. He couldn't shake the feeling of dread that gnawed at his insides and couldn't understand why Maya had suddenly decided to leave without so much as a word of explanation.

"Maya, wait," he called out, his voice barely above a whisper as he reached out to grab her hand. "Please, talk to me."

But Maya jerked her hand away, her movements stiff and guarded as she continued on her path, her eyes fixed on some distant point ahead. "There's nothing to talk about," she muttered, her voice hollow and empty.

Owen felt a surge of frustration rises within him, a burning need to understand the reasons behind Maya's sudden departure. "That's not true," he insisted, his voice tinged with desperation. "You can't just leave without giving me a reason."
