VENGEANCE

As Owen went out of the hospital, he saw Mr Reynolds waiting for him beside a car that looked quite normal.

Owen had no knowledge about cars so he didn't think much of it. He was only satisfied that Mr Reynolds hadn't come with a luxury car that would arouse attention.

"It's good to see that you've recovered to a large extent, young master." Mr Reynolds remarked when Owen drew close to him.

"Please uncle, I would be more comfortable if you called me by name." Owen said.

"Sure, Mr Owen." Mr Reynolds said.

Owen sighed and entered the car through the door that Reynolds had opened up for him.

Several minutes later, Owen and Mr Reynolds arrived at a building that could only be described as a castle or a mansion.

Owen marveled at the sight of it as Mr Reynolds drove in through the massive gates into the front yard of the mansion.

For some reason, there were several other people outside the massive building as though they were waiting for someone.

"Who are these people?" Owen asked Mr Reynolds.

"These are your family members Owen, my immediate family and the rest of the extended family." Mr Reynolds revealed.

Owen was surprised, he had no idea that he had such a large extended family after spending a couple of decades of his life alone.

Mr Reynolds brought Owen to the people who stood waiting for him and began to introduce him.

There were about two other men with their wives which Mr Reynolds introduced as his father's younger brothers. There was also a mature woman who Reynolds also introduced as his aunt.

They were all with their children of varying ages and heights all greeting Owen with warming smiles.

Owen took some time to observe the faces of some of his cousins and as he heard their names he realized that a few of them were actually popular. They were part of the many celebrities in the city of Texas.

Owen was surprised that they were all a part of this bug family which made Owen wonder again about what kind of family he was born into and what was his real identity.

Mr Reynolds completed the introductions in no time and led Owen inside the massive building.

"I think you have a lot of explanation to do, uncle." Owen said to Mr Reynolds once they had settled.

"Yes, I haven't forgotten. I made you a promise to make everything clear to you." Mr Reynolds replied with a smile.

"Then I'm listening." Replied Owen, paying rapt attention.

Mr Reynolds began.

"Your father was the heir of an unknown empire. It is more sufficient to call it an unknown kingdom or organization. But it is purely inheritance by blood and family." Mr Reynolds said.

Owen furrowed his brows upon hearing it, was such a thing even possible in this day and age? Mr Reynolds continued.

"This Griffin family that you are born into is the most powerful family in the country and holds even greater power than the president and his cabinet.

Your parents died in that ghastly accident years ago and were instantly killed. This was just a few months after your birthday." Mr Reynolds recounted with a dark face. It wasn't an event he liked to recall but he continued.

"Seeing as your father is dead, you have no siblings and hence the succession falls right to you, Owen.

You are the next in line to inherit this grand empire that once belonged to your father. It is why I have searched for you for years, and fate has finally brought me face to face with you."

Owen remained silent as he tried to absorb the words of what Mr Reynolds had just said to him.

He had already thought about it while he was recovering at the hospital and he had understood that he was a special person, but he had clearly underestimated it.

The inheritance that belongs to him was something he never thought or dreamt of even in his wildest fantasies.

Owen drew a deep breath and realized the weight that was being placed on him.

"What am I supposed to do now?" Owen asked.

Mr Reynolds smiled.

"You aren't really required to do anything. You have many subordinates who respond to your will and they're all in influential positions of power. Just your command will make them do as you wish...

"But..." Owen inquired. There was still something underlying that he was yet to know.

Mr Reynolds expression turned serious as he looked Owen in the eyes.

"This mansion has been the home of your father and your ancestors. There is a basement below it that holds all the profound mysteries and secrets of your heritage.

That is where your legacy lies, Owen. You just have to go down there and open it." Mr Reynolds said.

Owen stared at him with a perplexed expression.

"Do you know what's in there?" He asked.

Mr Reynolds shook his head. "Only the direct line of succession is allowed to enter."

"How is that possible?"

"It requires your blood, Owen. Your father had registered you when you were born. As such only you can go in and take your rightful possession.

It will help you to fully understand who you are." Mr Reynolds said.

Owen went silent again. He didn't know what to think or even say concerning the matter. All that he knew was that he wasn't ready to put such a big responsibility on himself.

He needed some time to adjust and settle down. But for him to do that, he had some debts to pay.

"I'm not going to go down there yet." Owen said. Making Mr Reynolds to furrow his brows.

"Why? Your inheritance has been waiting for you all these years..."

"It can wait a little while longer. I'm not ready yet." Owen said.

"Besides, I have some things that I must do before I can be at peace of mind." Owen said.

"And what is that?" Mr Reynolds asked in confusion.

"Vengeance..." Owen replied.

"Not an eye for an eye, but an eye for two legs."

His eyes burned with a furious rage hidden in its depths.
