Starlight City

Starlight City was one of the biggest and most prominent cities in the world. It would rank no lower than 5th and was definitely not a place for the poor, as even average people would find it hard to survive here.

Several first-class and many more second, as well as third-class families reside here along with the best of schools, hospitals, hotels, and many more.

The city got its name from its beautiful lighting which was more noticeable in the night.

Thousands of different coloured lights, which even formed constellations when looking from an aerial view.

They say it’s one of the best scenes in the world.

The wish to go for a walk began to grow.

“For my second question, just to be sure, this is a 1st class family right?”

“Yes, young master and you’re now a part of it.”

Charles sucked in cold air, he still found it unbelievable how he got himself here and everything that has happened so far.

“Lastly, why did I get adopted by Arthur?”

“I don’t know the reason for the lord’s decision, but since he made it—it’s final. And you should start referring to him by father,” Walter voiced out, his tone never changing.

The word ‘father’ didn’t sit well with him because of that man who abandoned him so it would take some time before he can call someone that casually.

When they got to the room, he requested to be left alone. He realized that he was a bit careless at first as there could be cameras in this room to keep an eye on him, and anyone watching would think that he had gone crazy if they see him interacting with the system.

This was quite worrisome, but there was a solution to that.

[You don’t have to speak up to give commands and ask questions. You can do all that with your thoughts]

He felt relieved hearing this, so he went on to ask his questions.

‘Why was I chosen? And if I remember correctly, there was something about conditions. What does that mean?’

[All this would be revealed with time]

“I see,” he muttered deciding to take worry of things within his power. Even though he was now part of such a family, with the reason for this being something he was oblivious of.

He didn’t plan on depending on their wealth. He was going to make it to the top on his own, deciding to use the wealth and influence of this family only when necessary.

With this thought, he decided to go out for a walk. He needed to know more about his surrounding and he could also come across something useful.

He didn’t plan on wasting any time. With this, he left his room once again and was a little surprised to see two men standing guard in front of his door.

He wondered if it was for protection or just to limit his movement.

They both bowed their heads at him which felt awkward as he didn’t receive such treatment even with his former family.

They didn’t even treat him like family in the first place. Not wanting to ruin his mood, he stopped thinking of those things.

“Young master, we would accompany you if you wish to leave,” one of them voiced out.

“Just guide me out of the building.”

He would still definitely get lost if he tried leaving on his own. After 15 minutes, they were now out of the house and he was staring at the exterior.

This mansion was big enough to be called a castle. The dominant colours were ash and blue. Every inch was built with top-notch materials and he could see some guards stationed around.

Anyone coming here with nefarious thoughts was just asking for a ticket to Hades. He looked back at the two men standing beside him.

“This is far enough. I want to check out the neighborhood alone.”

They both frowned a little but quickly composed themselves.

“You might not be aware of it young master, but there are some dangers in bearing this family name. The more powerful you get, the more enemies and competitors you make, and that’s the same here.”

Charles knew very well what he was trying to say and it was the truth. Without a doubt, the Alistairs have a lot of enemies and competitors, most of which can’t afford a direct confrontation and would result in underhand methods.

“But no one should know this early that I’m now a member of the family. With my current looks and state, they’ll probably mistake me for a worker here. So I’m safe for now.”

They didn’t seem satisfied with this.

“I’ll be fine on my own. There’s no need to come with me.”

As long as they weren’t ordered by the lord of the house to restrict a family member’s movement, they had no right to do so, and if Charles insists on going on his own, they have to comply, but at the same time, if something happened to him, they would be the ones who take the blame proving how difficult and complicated this line of work is.

“Then take this young master.” One of them said while handing a silver watch which looked very expensive but Charles didn’t believe it was just for fancy.

If you tap the glass twice, it means you're in, or you believe to be in danger and we would get there as quickly as we can.

Seeing no harm to this, he nodded and took it from them before putting it around his wrist. He walked away leaving both men behind.

It didn’t take long before he completely exited the residence through a large gate, not getting stopped by anyone, and the respect he was shown indicated that everyone within the residence already knew about the adoption.

He looked around at the luxurious neighboring buildings.

‘Now where do I start?’
