The silence that followed was heavy with tension. E.R. Dominique, despite the side she was clearly on, felt the weight of William’s words. “The way you spoke today was quite impressive.”

William glanced up to find the older woman smiling at him. He nodded in reply. “Thank you.”

“You handled those antagonists better than I expected.” E.R. Dominique allowed another moment of silence to pass, though brief. “To be honest, I never saw this coming.”

“See what coming?” William frowned slightly.

“That you would actually be working at a company owned by the McArthur family.” E.R. Dominique giggled. “It’s actually annoying how they managed to recruit you before I could even convince the Parker family to do the same.”

William’s eyes widened at this revelation. He had no idea that this elder representative had the intention of having the Parker family recruit him to work at their conglomerate. He couldn’t even understand how she assumed he would even be interested in doing this in the first.
