Ruthless, savage, barbaric, coldblooded, and backbiting.
The Blood Continent can be described as such and much more.
The Blood Sect is the strongest power on the Blood Continent and they were the most infamous heretic sect on planet Daiyu.
To show how harsh the conditions in the sect were; they would purposely limit the cultivation resources for their disciples, and encourage them to fight against each other.
The sect's motto was, "Only the strong will survive, trust no one but yourself, if you want something, kill for it."
From that alone, one could see that they follow the rule of the jungle, where only the strong will survive and the weak would be killed.
Even though the sect had rules for killing between disciples, as long as there was no evidence incriminating the killer or the person killed wasn't a top genius, then the sect would most likely ignore it.
Throughout the entire Blood Sect, disciples could be seen fidgeting while their eyes shifted about as if someone was going to jump them from behind at any time.
They were constantly on guard, keeping a distance from each other as they walk to and from their destinations.
On a random rock, next to a main path within the sect, a poor cricket decided to make a stop there and started its mating call, but not even a second before it started, it was slashed to death by a blood disciple.
"What the fuck?! I thought someone was attacking me from behind!"
That disciple was only walking past the rock and had reflexively attacked in the direction of the noise behind him. He was so vigilant and paranoid of some attacking him from behind that he mistook a cricket noise for a sudden ambush.
But the fact still remained that if it was indeed an ambush, he would've been able to stop a fatal blow.
And that was the main goal of the Blood Sect.
Training in such a competitive and anxiety-inducing environment would cause their disciples to develop a terrifying instinct for battle. The sect was practically raising a bunch of killing machines.
That was why despite being the weakest continent, the major powers on the other continents chose to refrain from opening pandora's box, which was the Blood Sect.
Another reason why they avoided them, was that, despite the internal conflicts and backstabbing going between the members of the Blood Sect, they had a blind loyalty for their sect.
When they were within their sect the disciples would fight tooth and nail against each other, but when they were dealing with outside powers they were united and even more brutal against them. This can be seen by their second motto, "The sect's priority is above all else."
When those two mottoes combine it simply means, you can fight, steal, and back-stab each other but when encountering outside forces, all previous grudges and conflicts are abandon and the sect's interest is placed above else, even your own lives.
The Blood Sect was not the only place that adopted these principles, all the other sects on the Blood Continent had, even the mortals.
Which was somewhat unbelievable.
But all and all, the whole continent's mindset was, be brutal to each other, and even more brutal to your enemies.
---
The Patriarch of the Blood Sect was a late-stage Saint realm expert, and he was considered to be the most brutal person on the entire Blood Continent, as one could see from his nickname, Blood Demon.
He had a son that was seventeen years of age, however, he had no Spirit root, resulting in him being called a trash by everyone, as he was unable to cultivate Spiritual Qi.
When the Patriarch had found out about it, he had actually killed his wife.
His wife was examined by doctors and it was found that she was unable to give birth to another child.
The Patriarch had waited twelve years only to find out his son was a cripple. Anger had rushed to his head resulting in the tragic death of his wife.
Following that incident, his first concubine had become pregnant with a child.
Forgetting about the humiliation brought to him because of his wife bearing a cripple for a son, he made the first concubine his new wife.
However, not too long into the birth, the newly wedded wife had a miscarriage.
It was said that when the news was delivered to the Patriarch he had killed the messenger with a single slap.
The events that followed afterward were nothing short of tragic and gruesome.
After the miscarriage by the first concubine, now wife, the doctors again declared that she was unable to give birth to another child.
The Patriarch killed her and then said, "What's her use if she can't even give birth to a child?"
His vile and emotionless words at that time had shown his brutal nature that was buried deep within his bones.
With only a cripple son to pass on his legacy to, the Patriarch was starting to get anxious for new heirs.
He had only a wife and three concubines at the time. With his wife and the first concubine's death, his main focus was the last two remaining concubines.
He started to give them all types of pills and elixirs to help with pregnancy, and soon after, both of them had become pregnant.
Only to have a miscarriage not long after, with the same outcome as his wife and first concubine, being that they were unable to have a child again.
The two concubines followed the same faith as the wife and first concubine, they were killed.
Afterward, the Patriarch seemed to have become deranged, not that he wasn't already but he had become more so.
Every time he would take in concubines, they would become pregnant but have a miscarriage soon after. The events followed the same routine of them being unable to have another child.
The Patriarch was incensed, at one point he had taken in over a hundred concubines but the outcome was still the same, so was the faith of those women being killed by the Patriarch.
Rumors were starting to spread in the sect and across the continent that the Patriarch was probably inept in that area.
Hearing such rumors, the Patriarch was so angry from the humiliation that loud banging noises could be heard coming from his residence.
Ever since his first and only son had been found out to possess no Spiritual root at the age of ten and twelve, the Patriarch spent the next three years trying to gain a worthy successor to pass on his legacy. However, for three years he had failed with the same results happening over and over again.
He wasn't able to find out what the problem was.
One doctor had suggested that it might be because of his cultivation technique, the 'Three-Eyed Demon Revolution.'
It was one of the four legacy cultivation methods in the Blood Sect. However, he wasn't the only one that had cultivated this technique, a past Patriarch of the sect had cultivated it, and he had children without any trouble.
After the three years of his fruitless efforts, the Patriarch decided to put all of his hopes into his cripple of a son that he had ignored.
He decided that since he couldn't find a successor in his first generation of descendants, he would find one in the second. After all, Saint realm cultivators could live for thousands of years. He was willing to wait as long as it took, for a suitable heir.
Having made up his mind he set out to find a talented wife for his useless son.
And it just so happens that a genius appeared within the sect that had the Karma Physique. Which was ranked twelve out of the thirty Lengendary Physiques, and, most important of all, the disciple was a girl.
The Patriarch immediately took action by taking in the twelve-year-old girl as his disciple.
Her origins were that of a descendant of one of the most powerful Sage Clans on the continent, the Yang Clan.
When the Patriarch had made his decision to take her as his disciple, they immediately protested because they knew the Patriarch's intentions of making her marry his crippled son.
Who would want such a talented younger member of their clan to be married off to a cripple? Even if it was the Patriarch's only son, it was nothing more than throwing pearl to a swine or having a beautiful rose being stuck in shit. The swine and shit being the Patriarch's son.
However, being the strongest person on the continent, with the backing of the Blood Sect, the Yang Clan had no choice but to submit to the Patriarch's decision. That was unless they wage a war in rebellion and won, but they immediately chuck that idea out the window as that was too unrealistic.
The talented girl from the Yang Clan was named Yang Yuyan.
After she became the Patriarch's personal disciple, her cultivation soared by leaps and bounds.
When she was only fourteen years old she was already in the mid-stage of the Foundation Building realm and could fight across minor realms to battle late-stage Foundation realm cultivators.
Now she was sixteen years of age reaching the late-stage Foundation realm herself and had even comprehended the legendary 'blade intent'.
Something difficult for every blade master.
In the Seven Continents tournament, she had revealed her shocking talent of combining her Karma Physique and blade intent, which gave her blade intent a faint hint of karma.
Karma was one of the Great Daos. In the past, immortals were said to have the power to manipulate a person's karma and control their destinies, something only the heavens were capable of.
However, such things as immortals who could replace the will of the heavens were only spoken about in books and were considered to be folklore and legends told by past generations. Just like the supposed Spiritual Beast races which were ancestors of Demonic beasts.
Throughout the whole tournament, Yang Yuyan remained undefeated to reach the finals and won in an overwhelming manner using only three moves.
Her skills in martial arts and cultivation were unmatched by anyone in the Blood Sect. Making her fame among the blood disciples at the utmost.
Not only does her fame come from her extraordinary talents, but it also comes from her beauty and absolute ruthlessness.
Within the Blood Sect, there's no shortage of vicious and coldblooded disciples, however, none of them would dare go up against their senior sister.
One time a male disciple was too handsy with her so she cut off his ten fingers.
That male disciple didn't know what was good for himself and tried to retaliate in anger. But the 'blood empress' dissected both of his hands and shattered his dantian, turning him into a cripple for the rest of his life.
Yang Yuyan's beauty was considered to be number one, not just on the Blood Continent, but the entire Daiyu planet.
This caused some male disciples to have some thoughts about her, but this incident deterred them from even having fantasies about her.
One other thing to be mention was that despite being the Patriarch's disciple she was offered no special treatment or protection.
Some people were confused by this as the only reason he took her as a disciple was to marry his useless son to her, so his treatment of her seemed contradictory.
It was only when that incident took place that people realized something, the young patriarch that they had looked down upon for being useless, was even more vicious than Yang Yuyan, and could even be compared with his father.
That male disciple that had his arms chopped off, and his dantian shattered by Yang Yuyan, was found dead later that day.
Not only that, his family had gone missing overnight, while everyone he was acquainted with within the sect, even if it was only limited to speaking a few words with them, went missing with no trace of their existence to be found.
When everyone heard the news, they all felt as if a vice-like grip was squeezing their necks, rendering them unable to breathe.
Going after someone's family was frown upon in the cultivation world. If that were allowed and you went after your enemy, wouldn't he just target your loved ones?
And what would you do in retaliation?
Once that cycle was started it would be hard to stop.
That's why people on the blood continent were so shocked by the news. Even if they were vicious, they wouldn't have been this vicious.
The only reason why the young patriarch of the Blood Sect was able to do this and get away with it was precisely because of his position. If not, then everyone would be openly condemning him, but in reality, they could only do so silently within their hearts
Well, now they all know that Yang Yuyan was absolutely off-limits, else they and their families would die without even knowing how.

~Fun Fact~
This chapter was actually 900 words longer than this, but I cut it down by scrapping a few ideas about how Yang Yuyan and Patriarch blood demon was supposed to be.
Maybe I'll have like separate chapter/s to show how different this book could've been so far.

Within Longmin’s courtyard, Longwei could be seen standing in front of a tree in the training grounds. His right hand was on the hilt of his sword while his left hand was holding its blue scabbard. With closed eyes, he stood there calmly, his posture straight as an arrow. A sudden gust of wind blew past causing his clothes and hair to flutter in the wind. It also caused a dozen leaves on the tree to become detached from its branches and to then start floating down towards the unmoving Longwei. Tightening his hand around the hilt of the sword, Longwei started emitting a sharp and fierce, that soar to the sky. Looking at him, he resemble a heavenly sword that was about to tear open the firmament. An intangible force started to spread from his body to cover three feet in his surroundings. Within that space, he became a ruler that could decide life or death. The twelve leaves were all within that three
Hearing his brother’s shameless comment, Longmin frowned and glared at him before continuing to his main point. “When you executed the sword movement a moment ago, how did you view the sword in your hand?” Longwei was already in a sitting position, and when he heard his brother’s question he shrugged his shoulder and said, “I just see it as a sword I’m going to use to cut the leaves.” “And that’s where your mindset is off. I’ve read some old texts in the clan that spoke about becoming one with your weapon and view it not as a weapon, but a part of you. I think that if you're able to view your sword, not just as a sword, but an extension of yourself, then you’ll be able to step across that final watershed, and allow the sword intent seed within your dantian to bloom into real sword intent.” Longwei pondered on those words for a while, before jumping up from his sitting position and going up to the tree. L
Leaving the Wu Clan, Longmin and Longwei entered the bustling city of Lou Fu. The both of them had changed their appearance due to the insistence of Longwei, but Longmin had been reluctant as he wasn’t fond of disguising himself as his brother did. Walking along the streets of Lou Fu, Longmin eyes glisten with curiosity as he looked left and right at all the different buildings and people. He hadn’t been outside of the clan in six years, and for those six years, all he had been doing was reading the books in the clan’s library, front to back and back to front. Now that he was allowed to leave the clan he wanted to explore every inch of the Wu Continent and see all the places he had read in those books. One thing he realized was that all the people he walked past were cultivators. Though he wasn’t that surprised as he read somewhere that the City of Lou Fu was where all the top sects and clans reside. They had set up stores that sell all sorts of top-q
Longmin and Longwei had reached the Yellow Leaf Valley and were now waiting with the disciples and members of the major sects and clans for the Lesser Pocket Realm to open. The Yellow Leaf Valley itself was located within the Yellow Leaf Mountain range on the eastern side of the Wu Continent. The name was given to it because of the countless yellow-leafed orchid trees in the area. Whether it was winter, summer, autumn, or spring, they would be filled with resplendent yellow blooming flowers. Another name that was given to this type of orchid tree was the eternally blooming sunflower orchid tree. There was even a legend among cultivators and mortals involving why they were blooming all year round. It was said that in the past, there was once a roaming scholar who stumble upon this mountain range by accident. At that time, the numerous orchid trees only bloomed once after an entire sixty-year circle, and the leaves they bloomed were blood red.
In the surroundings, the elders and hundreds of disciples from the major sects and clans were in the area watching them with a somewhat mocking gaze. The Yellow Leaf Valley's Lesser Pocket Realm was the biggest of the three Pocket Realms on the Wu Continent. It was also a special place of cultivation for the younger generation of the various sects and clans. Every fifty years, when the Pocket Realm opens, the Core Formation disciples would go through fierce competition within their own organizations to be chosen as one of six candidates to enter the Pocket Realm. This in itself was extremely difficult to accomplish as one would need to have the strength and talents to outperform thousands of other candidates, and stand out among their peers as one the strongest in their organization. It wasn't a stretch to say that every disciple who stood here at the Yellow Leaf Valley was a terrifying genius, who had proven themselves by struggling through muddy wat
Longwei had not been talking low so when the crowd of disciples heard him, it felt like they were about to cough up a mouth of blood from anger. Being called a dog by a Foundation Building brat and not being able to respond, and then having salt rubbed on their wounds was tantamount to being slapped in the face repeatedly. "That's young master Longwei right? How could he have such a vicious mouth despite being a little brat?" One disciple said while clenching his teeth. "That's not all, not only does he have a vicious mouth, I even heard that he would suppress cultivation base and dress up in worn-out robes, then go around beating up the arrogant debauchees from the major sects and clans." Another disciple chimed in and said, "That right, I heard rumors about how he's constantly changing his appearance that even the members of his clan don't know how he actually looks. If it wasn't for that one time when a debauchee's uncle, who was a sect elder, got involved
"Which grave did this old fart crawled out from? Do you think of yourself as hot-stuff because you're an Elder from the Crescent Moon Sect? Step aside you old foggy." Longwei then ignored the sour look on Elder Li's face and turned to the six disciples behind him. "If someone other than this bag of bones doesn't step out now then the Crescent Moon is banded from ever stepping into any of the three Lesser Pocket Realms." Immediate gasps could be heard from the crowd of disciples. They were wondering how the Crescent Moon Sect was going to deal with this. Although it might seem that Longwei indeed had no qualifications to make such decisions, his father on the other hand can. Why would the Crescent Moon Sect antagonize the sons of the Wu Clan's patriarch? If this matter blows out of proportions from a simple argument between the younger generation to Elders getting involved, aren't they just shooting themselves in the foot? Elder
Stumbling back with an ashen face, Elder Li could feel his veins and meridians rupture from the backlash of Spiritual Qi. A mouth full of blood was even threatening to come up through his throat but he managed to force it back down. Looking over at the two late-stage Core formation bodyguards, he was silent for a moment before he straightened himself then cupped his fist and said, "Two young masters of the Wu Clan, I hope you can forgive me for acting in such a manner. I was out of line and wish that you would look at this from my point of view at my discontentment. To make up for my actions, as an Elder of the Crescent Moon Sect I hereby revoke our rights to enter the Pocket Realm in the future. I hope that this can appease any animosity you may have against us. However, I wish that you would allow us to enter this Pocket Realm before our rights are revoked." As Elder Li's words sounded out, everyone in the surroundings was taken aback. One minute th
