Mason was surprised to see Selena looking ordinary as if he had expected something like this to happen.

"Selena, help me." Mason pressed his chest, which was getting hotter like it was burning from the inside.

"Oh, does it hurt that much?" Selena raised one eyebrow, looking at Mason sarcastically.

The woman's warm demeanour had turned back to its usual ugly self. Mason didn't understand the change in his wife's attitude, and instead of helping, Selena didn't seem to care.

"Well, you've done it without me, Selena." Mason's gaze shifted to a man who had just arrived, walking casually towards them.

Mason was shocked by the change in his wife's attitude and now even more shocked by Selena, who embraced the newly appeared man's hand in a spoiled manner.

"Yes, you came late. So, I started quickly." Selena rested her head momentarily on the shoulder of the man in the white coat.

Mason's head was dizzy, and the pain in his chest was getting worse. His heartbeat was racing very fast, making his whole body relax.

What his body felt made him suspect that he had been poisoned. Especially when he saw the expression on his wife's face earlier. "What did you put in that drink?"

Selena chuckled softly. "You still don't get it?" She acted casually. "Yes, I put poison in the wine."

Mason's eyes rounded. He had guessed that the drink did have poison in it. With an innocent face, Selena took a sip of the drink in her hand as if to show that she was satisfied with the effects of the fast-acting poison.

"Don't worry, the pain won't last long because you'll be gone soon." Selena chuckled.

Mason heard other laughter around him, which made him immediately look at every one.

Mason's eyes shook violently. He hadn't expected something like this. "You guys know this?"

From the faces of all of them, it was clear that they knew that the drink Selena gave them contained poison. The mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and even 8-year-old Axelo were grinning with satisfaction at seeing him in such pain.

"How could you do all this?" Mason couldn't believe that everyone seemed to be conspiring to eliminate him.

"Of course, I can," Selena answered Mason's question quickly. "Because you're useless."

Selena was his wife, whom he took care of. Although the woman was cold and always had a bad attitude towards him, Mason did not expect that she would be this bad at all. Tonight, she would be the most extraordinary woman. Mason had also prepared a special gift for his wife.

"You are a very embarrassing man," Selena emphasised her words. "All this time, you've been embarrassing me."

Selena snorted in annoyance as she recalled the words of the people who had been mocking her as a woman with poor standards. She was married to a useless, unemployed man. Almost every day, Mason made some kind of trouble, which made Selena sick.

"You're a bad husband." Selena's voice was harsh. "You're unreliable and always cause me trouble."

She also remembered the time Mason had incompetently put the documents into his briefcase, so when he got to the office, the boss scolded him for carrying the wrong documents. Unbeknownst to Selena, Axelo had intentionally switched it with another document.

Selena gritted her teeth in annoyance, recalling what almost cost her this promotion.

"It's very different from Yohan." She looked over and stroked the arm of the man beside her. "He is my future husband. He's rich, always reliable and has everything you don't have."

"Of course, darling." Yohan held Selena's chin proudly.

Mason couldn't believe that the wife he thought would be faithful had betrayed him and wanted him gone. He thought he could make a wonderful family with Selena, but it turned out that it was all just his hope.

Mason coughed even worse, but his gaze did not leave Selena. "Why are you doing this to me?"

"Well, I should have divorced you." Selena raised her eyebrows. "But if I divorce you, it will be difficult because you can get the property from my father."

Selena rolled her eyes lazily. Ever since discovering this, she had hated her father and thought his actions were outrageous.

"You got 20% of my father's shares, and I'm not okay with that." Selena snorted in annoyance while looking away from Mason.

"Shares?" Mason's brow furrowed. He didn't know that at all.

However, he suddenly remembered what happened before his father-in-law had his stroke. At that time, Rowan wanted to say something to him but was stopped because Rowan suddenly had a seizure.

"Ah, it hurts." Rowan clutched his chest, looking in great pain.

His whole body stiffened and hard, which made him immediately rushed to the hospital. The doctor declared that the middle-aged man had a stroke due to a blood vessel in his brain bursting due to cholesterol pressure and blood pressure that was so high, causing the nerves and cells in his brain to die.

Now that Mason remembered, this was probably what Rowan had wanted to tell him then.

"Unfortunately, I only recently learned about it from my father's lawyer." Selena gave Mason a sharp look. "I can't accept sharing the shares with a lousy person like you!"

Even though it was only twenty percent of the entire estate owned by the Wilmer family, Selena was still unwilling. It was only fitting that the Wilmer family fortune went to her and Emily, her sister—not to anyone else, let alone a lousy person she considered useless.

"So if you die...." Selena grinned. "Then I'll get it."

Mason's chest was getting hotter. The effects of the poison inside his body had spread rapidly, eating away every important cell. The pain was mixed with the broken feeling he was experiencing now. It all came together, destroying him from within.

Mason coughed worse until it made his body stagger even more, losing his balance.

More and more blood came out of Mason's mouth, making the clothes he was wearing full of thick red spots.

Selena waved her hand lightly. "Goodbye."

Mason fell down, sitting on the floor. Regret swirled in his head. "I shouldn't have supported that ignorant woman. I shouldn't have made them like this...."

The image of Mason secretly helping Selena's career was vivid in his head. He had done everything for his wife and family to reach this point.

The regret and anger added to the pain all over his body that slowly brought him deeper and deeper towards the brink of death until finally, he completely lost consciousness.

"Hah!" Mason's breath was strong as his eyes opened wide.

He woke up with sweat pouring down his body. His body temperature was hot, and he was trembling. His palms were cold as if he were grasping chunks of ice.

Mason was startled, taking long breaths while clutching his chest, which was currently pounding.

"What's going on?" Mason cast his eyes around. He was inside his room, not in the party room.

Not fully understanding what was happening, he was suddenly startled again by the loud alarm sound from his cell phone, which made him feel even more confused.

Mason took his cell phone and turned off the alarm, but his eyes widened when he saw the date on the screen.

"What?" Mason was so shocked that he almost jumped out of bed. "This was a week ago?"

Mason blinked his eyes, unable to believe what was happening. The pain, the heat eating away at his chest, and the blood coming out of his mouth were so real. He was sure that it wasn't a dream.

He paused for a moment as he remembered something. "Is the power grandfather spoke of really real?"

Mason's eyeballs moved as what his grandfather had once said suddenly replayed in his head and made him understand the current situation.

"If it really happened..." Mason squeezed his hands with a look that turned cold. "It's time I pay them back for what they did."
