CHAPTER 32

Meanwhile, at the table where Mildred sat with the group of wealthy ladies and her enemies, the host of the game placed a bowl with wrapped papers in it, right in the center and told everyone to pick.

"It has every position set for this game. From first player to the last. Pick yours and let the game begin, " She said, placing the diamond bottle on the table.

Mildred glanced at the bottle, the bowl containing the positions, then at Emily. She met Emily and her mother glaring at her already.

Mildred directed her eyes away from them and acted like she didn't see both mother and daughter. But deep within her, she was calming her worries and encouraging herself not to be weak.

The bowl is passed round and everyone got to pick their paper. Opening it up next.

"Yeah! I'm second!"

"I'm first! "

"Awwn, I'm tenth, last position. Still fine though."

The ladies called out their position.

Mildred watched them all, as they opened their papers and rejoiced or complained about their position.
