“Mister Gold?” she says confused. His face remains neutral until she adds: “I didn’t expect to see you here.”“Neither did I.” He replies in the same monotone: “Are you going downstairs? Or shall I join you?”Regina considers it a little bit, before answering: “You may join me if you like, I suppose.” She steps away from the door and moves to make space between them in the center of the room. He sits down next to her without saying another word. After a few seconds, Regina continues:“Henry tells me that you were trying to protect him, and he wanted to help. But it seemed like you tried to scare him with these dreams and stories…”Gold scoffs: “I told you I’m not doing any of that. The only thing I am doing is trying to teach your son.”Regina furrows her brows: “So, you weren’t trying to scare him in any way? To frighten him?”“Of course not. I was merely making sure that he wouldn’t try running away again. He was supposed to be safe with you, but apparently, it wasn’t safe for him e
I’m fine.”“Did you eat anything during the last couple of days?” She demands in order to avoid asking him anything else.“I ate a salad yesterday afternoon and a cup of coffee this morning. I’m fine.” He repeats stubbornly. She stares at him intensely and suddenly realizes what is going on: “You don’t sleep!” She yells: “Oh my God! Is that why you look like crap? Because you haven’t slept at all?! And you never drink or eat? How could you!? I thought you cared about him. I thought that you love him. But you don’t care about me at all, do you? I mean I get that it was hard for you losing our daughter, but that was not your fault. None of it was! Do you understand me?” she asks him angrily, staring directly at his eyes as if trying to communicate through sheer willpower how angry and sad she is right now.He avoids eye contact: “No… But I can assure you, that isn't true...”“I don't want to hear anymore of that shit right now.” She snaps, standing up, grabbing her coat from the armrest
She continues: “Now I’ve gone to see his psychiatrist and talked with his psychiatrist as well. They are both adamant that it’s nothing to worry about. They don’t think he is suffering from some form of schizophrenia, nor any kind of mental illness related to what happened to Emma; in fact, they are certain it has to do with something far more traumatic. However, neither psychiatrist nor I can explain precisely what happened. The doctors have said they cannot tell us more than they have already explained, but we believe that something terrible occurred while he was asleep. Whatever it was, it left him incapacitated for the rest of the night. When he woke up, he seemed completely lucid and able to reason. They also stated that his body temperature was high, indicating that it hadn’t been that late during the day yet. If only he would remember something, he could explain everything. Unfortunately, nothing significant has happened. We simply don’t understand what happened. And I think th
she wonders curiously. He shrugs his shoulders, unable to hide an embarrassed grin on his face. He starts fiddling with his fingers. Then, he suddenly turns his attention back to her as if he had remembered something important.“Why do you hate me? Why do you always act so strange everytime we meet? What do you mean you don't have an explanation for me? Why did you leave me alone? Did you just leave me behind because you found someone else? Am I too annoying or too troublesome to live with? Is it true? Does everyone know? Have you seen them? What does it mean? Tell me!" His eyes begin filling with tears. "Tell me why. Why are you so nice to everybody else and so mean to me. Tell me what happened to you."When she tries to approach him, he holds her at arm's length."Please stop. Stop trying to comfort me. I am a mess." His voice wavers. "Everything hurts. So many thoughts and memories are swimming through my brain and I don’t understand anything anymore." He then falls silent for a m
everything that he has told her, everything he has shown her, all the emotions he seems to be feeling, it is impossible to let him sleep alone in the dark and silent room. She forces herself to get up, crosses the room, and opens the closet in the corner of the room. Inside the closet lays a few hoodies and various articles of clothing that are all dirty. She finds a plain white shirt and a pair of sweatpants on the rack, and she quickly changes her clothes, leaving them in the closet before she gets back under the covers. She lies still on her side facing the door, her back facing him. She keeps her body still and tries not to breathe for fear that she will disturb the silence between them, which she knows she will not be able to do.She waits for about fifteen minutes until she hears him shuffling about behind the curtain that divides their rooms. For some reason she thinks he’s gotten undressed. Her heart pounds against her chest as she hears rustling noises, and for the longest of
wearing the same tattered sweatshirt as earlier. He looks like he hasn't slept in days.He slowly walks over to her, and she keeps her gaze focused on her hands folded together on her lap; trying her best not to let him know how worried she is for him. She hears him sit next to her on the bed. "Are you okay?” He asked in a soft voice. She finally lifts her gaze from her hands to meet his eyes. She takes in his appearance for a few moments and then she says. "Yes. I'm fine."He frowns. "But you're not. Why won't you tell me what happened? I already said you could leave whenever you wanted and that we were friends and nothing more," he tells her with pleading, sad blue eyes. She swallows nervously before looking back down. "I am really sorry… It's none of my business." She tells him sincerely. "I should probably go back to the living room now." She adds as an afterthought, standing up to take a step back. She feels his hand gently touch her shoulder. She slowly tur
The first rays of sunlight illuminate the whole room through the blinds covering the windows. She blinks several times as she yawns loudly. She rubs the sleepiness off her eyes and stretches slightly. She hears a slight groan next to her and looks over at him to find him staring at her through a heavy eyelid. Slowly he starts waking up more. His eyebrows furrow and his lips purse together slightly as his eyes focus on Regina. He blinks several times and then turns his gaze away from her. She watches his face carefully, waiting for him to show any signs of discomfort. To her surprise, however, he remains very calm.He pushes himself up and sits cross legged on the edge of the bed while stretching once more before finally lifting his gaze to meet hers.“Good morning.” He greets her softly, smiling.“Good morning.” She answers, also smiling, returning the gesture. She watches him carefully, noticing that despite his words he seems somewhat uncomfortable. She wonders why and
“Sorry girls, I just need to be alone for now" she replies in a broken state while looking at the none resistant eyes of the little girls. She was trying not to cry but was failing miserably by the end. She walks through the halls aimlessly, her head low and her mind in turmoil. She needed time to sort out what the hell had happened but she knew that wasn’t an option here. It would just mean more time away from these children’s concerned eyes. She stops at one of the windows to look outside; the moonlight was falling heavily as usual in this part of town. There was nothing special about this particular window though, it looked exactly like all other ones around her. However, she noticed something different this time around. The trees were swaying back and forth slightly; almost like there was some kind of wind coming from behind them. It was odd enough for her to have stopped to look. “Everything we dreamt and built together is all crumbling," she says while holding her locket
